Ok I want to train up to fly a Dread!
I know the basic skills I need but what are all the advance and useful skills to have fly the dread properly?
Evemon only gives you the skills for piloting the dread not fitting so I'm looking for all the skills and what levels to get them to, to be an effective dread pilot in support fleet engagements.
Please help thanks

Basically, figure out how you would fit it (or ask your alliance what the setup is on ones they provide) and look at the skills for those items.
Do not neglect the skills for the siege module, without one a Dread isn't particularly useful.
You'll want to be able to use a capital sized tank, and the largest weapons on the racial Dread you are aiming for.
You will want to be able to jump a decent distance, that will also take a while since the distance skill has the fuel skill to level 5 as a prerequiste, and you'll want the distance skill to 4 so those making cynos for you do not curse you.
Once you consider the minimum to fit, level 3 then eventually 4 in the skills that you need and which provide bonuses is good. Level 5 takes insanely long.

u are not old enough if u have to ask what skills u need to fly any capital ship..
Dreads are used for POS warefare, so having one u need to use it. Are u in big alliance? 0.0? Dreads are not cheap, skills are expensive too!
First of all, we dont know how much SP u have in what field, but for starters u need to have all support skills maxed up before u can even think of training for capital ships..
that includes drones maxed up, electronics field, navigation and so on..
u need at least 25mil in skills not related to production or trading to properly fly dread..

Edited by: Garaboldi on 20/02/2007 11:15:29 I may not be old enough to fly the dread, but it doesn't hurt having ambitions to fly one, one day.
It gives me something to aim for and train towards...why do some people have a problem with that? I want to set myself a long term goal...not jump into the dread tomorrow however nice that would be.
All I wanted to know is which skills where needed and at what level they need to be to fly a dread effectively for either caldari or minmatar...a list not a lecture on how old I am!
Thanks to those that have been constructive and not destructive in their comments.

For a dreadnaught basics, you need battleship level 5, as well as the ability to use t2 large weapons. Getting both will take a long, long time

Yes, but the prerequisite skills are the same as for T2 large weapons.

1) Find a big 0.0 alliance. Outside of 0.0 corps/alliances, dreads are useless. So start working with one, and get to learn 0.0 warfare.
2) To go with 1, you will want battleship 5, and t2 weapons of your type.. this will let you fly a fleet battleship in the short term, and put you closer to dread. It will take a new char around 6-8 months to reach this point. The biggest problem here, is the caldari dread uses torps, but the caldari fleet battleship (rokh) uses t2 rails.. so if you are going down the caldari path.. you may want to switch over to hybrids and train gallente battleship to 5, and then go for the gallente dreadnaught (moros). Being a missile shooter with battlership 5 and a raven, will make you pretty useless in 0.0 warfare until that point wayyyyyyyy in the future when you can get a dread.
3) Then start working on the little stuff you need to fly a dread, like advanced weapon upgrades lvl 5.

You need the skills for capital armour repairers or capital shield boosters. Also the skill for siege modules, tactical weapon configuration, which needs advanced weapon upgrades V to get.
If you want to move the ship efficiently you need the two advanced jumpdrive skills, which means you need jumpdrive operation V.
For the Moros, I would also personally advise good drone skills as well; drones are its strengths compared to other dreads. ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

Yes, but the prerequisite skills are the same as for T2 large weapons.
Nope, its a lot shorter than that cos the T2 preqs arent needed just large weapons and gunnery to 5.
For the OP, you first off need to choose which one you want to train for. This will determine weither you wnat to work on your armour or sheild skills. Very Important skills will be your cap skills the get cap operation up to 5 and cap management up to at least 4 five would be nice. The support skills in each feild of weapons should all go as high as possible cos these will help you out. But in gereral its gonna take a while so get comftable with the game and don't let others discourage you from reaching your goal.

Well from all the advice I'm overwhelmed. Thanks guys for the list I'd better get working on them and finding the right people to get in with.
I've decided to fly the Caldari one so, the shields and cap skills, missiles and everything else listed are on a nice long training list.
Thanks again Guys!

Flying a dread just makes you feel ubber, there is very little other reasons why you would want to fly one as they are pretty useless on a day to day basis playing of eve. POS warfare and capital ship engagments (which are usually total lag fests) are the only time they would get used. I would reconsider spending the next 6 months (or more) training for a brick with a big gun unless a) your quite near flying one already b) your alliance is going to build you one. I have all my dread skills to lvl 3 and i have still never seen the bridge of one of these mofo's. I stopped at lvl 3 when i realised how helpless a dread pilot is against attack, you've literally got to just sit there and wait till you go pop, hoping the carriers and other support craft around you can keep you alive long enough for you to wipe the sweat of your forehead. Its more fun to take a dread out with a dictor and a few carriers than it is to fly one. I seriously have so much more fun flying an Interdictor than any other ship in eve atm.

Played with that on the test server npcing with my alt's moros while I was in a damnation with tp and webbers. Very nice combo with blasters and drones!

You will need the dread skill to 4, as well as capital repair/shield operation, and your racial weapon skill(s). You will also need tactical weapon configuration 4. To maximize your mobility you will need jump drive op. at 5, jump fuel cons. 4 and jump drive cal. 4.
To fend of smaller ships I recommend training scout drone 5, train for t2 scout drones, and get your other drone skills to 4.
Ofc, you want your cap skills and basic tanking skills 5 and the compensation skills 4.

Oddly enough I made a similar decision to train straight for dread from relative newbie (4.5 mil skillpoints).
I was on the losing side in C3 when the crazy LV, BoB, IAC, AAA, Goon, KOS war raged through. We had a lot of great BS pilots, but we got kicked out of our home system just the same.
When your corp needs dreads nothing else will do.
So, I'm starting Minmatar battleship 5 this week. Maybe I'll be in a dread by the end of summer.

Yeah, but if he wants to run missions in it, he should get the one that can actually eat smaller ships, the Moros.
