There is so much wrong/out of date info on the official site that it's crazy. I pity any new players coming into this game and trying to figure it out. The amount of lore gained from playing for 4 years that is undocumented is mind boggling.
I'd offer to come just do documentation for them, but I don't think CCP could afford me for just that job.
CCP understands that the guide has become out of date, and ISD are currently in the process of creating a new up to date guide to replace the current player guide. While I cannot give an exact time for its completion (As is the nature of it being created by volunteers that have other things to do in their lives) it is coming.
If you ever need any help on any of the parts, dont hesitate to ask any of us!
I, for one, formally volunteer to write the part that explains the concept of non-consentual PvP to noobs. ----------

Slightly off topic.
I noticed Ovuer said its mandatory for devs to play as a new char.
I recently started a brand new character as I was getting bored and I have to say it was tremendous fun. I ran some missions to get enough isk for a rifter and some good named guns and the like, then went looking for a fight in Amamake. I have had a blast with him. I now do trading and missions with him and really enjoy doing it.
Try it. Its good fun.

Edited by: Jacque Custeau on 13/02/2007 14:01:39 I am curious about ice mining. Do any of the CCP devs do it? What do they think of it? I've always said that if they had to do it hours on end, they would create a macro or go insane. And that should be a sign that something is wrong. ------------------- |

Edited by: Mira Starsong on 13/02/2007 15:23:48 Edited by: Mira Starsong on 13/02/2007 15:22:30 I recently started over.
I made a temp account and started rolling characters and seeing what the new races looked like and the new startup skills.
What I found was that a startup character was more focused on what I actually do. So, my new character is actually BETTER than my year old one. Yes - I blew away a year old character with a million hard earned SP to take a brand new one with 820k I believe.
I realize that I train my characters in a 7/2/1 method with this one being the 10 percent training one... However, I also learn with the character with all the skillpoints and specialize my other two to be effective. So in the end, my 70% character can do lots of stuff very ineffectively. My 20% character is fun because it is very *tight*.
The funniest thing is my brand new character with less than 1 million skillpoints still makes about 20 times the money my 10 million skillpoint char makes.
Also - I finally finished the tutorial. It was finally entertaining enough for me to do and finish. This was my fourth attempt in the past year and 3 months.

Congrats CCP on finally getting the Tutorial right! The talking in the character setup really helped me too. I don't know why since the words were all there. Maybe I just liked hearing the voice and paying attention. I think the only hitch I had in the Tutorial was when I bought a piece of ammo in another system - had to fly to it - and the "you must be in your ship" and "you must be in space" got a little messed up. So I had to dock and undock to get through it in an odd out of sequence way. I figured it out though, but I doubt a total new player would have.
Anyhow, I am glad the Devs play some. I am sure I have complained to several of them about my problems in the last year. But just to recap...
1) The global criminal flag bug (Christmas 2005) that trashed Katrina's Security Status after shooting a billboard. The noobish undocking in frigates over and over again when the crime flag vanished and ensuing CONCORD fights were my fault I suppose. 2) The market order edit bug where I lost 80 mil isk in a system rollback because of poor CCP hardware recovery capabilities a year ago. 3) The Blood Patch corruption of Katrina's picture which has now synchronized in the Forum too - so now both my ingame and forum pics are nicey nice looking instead of how I designed them (* no - I won't pay 10 bucks for you to fix your db corruption problem *) Katrina Kirellii (Original Eve Look before corruption of database) 4) The dual training bug - where I was told I was a liar after proving dual training could be done for a week straight. Dual Training bug - proof screenshot 5) Oh - and the nice GM dropping a 20 ship BS led COSMO fleet on top of me with webbers and scramblers cause he/she thought I was too uppity although I answered questions for over 30 minutes... causing me to loose my first Ferox, miss the op taking down the POS in ASCN, and not get inducted into the corp so I could have fought in the ASCN/BoB war. Thanks a lot...
I suppose my CCP Eve player experience could have been worse.
That is how you go from a positive post - to the other end of the spectrum. I suppose I should be happy that the Aurora on-line application process was so buggy last year I could not apply after 3 tries. That was the best bug I have encountered. Otherwise, I would have been on the other side of the fence catching rocks thrown at my glass house!
Eve is still a great game - good job anyhow.
Happy Valentine's Day CCP.
Be mine.
Or be mine...
Keep playing - but don't spy on me! I hate that!

Yes, in the office we often walk over to the local expert on salvaging, mining, boosters, missions running and sometimes how to fit a ship for pvp. EVE is so complex it gets harder and harder to be an expert in everything, even as a dev

The devs should hire a total eve nub off the streets "I'm sure there are plenty of wannabe game testers" and sit him down in front of a comp and tell him to go to town.
Then judge how effective the tutorial and website are based on how often he bugs you guys for information.
Dev's starting new characters have the advantage or prior knowledge and intimate in-game mechanics.. need a total noob who dosen't know anything for quality testing.

Ah, so revelations must've been sponsored by Warner Brothers...
Your character is not a 'toon'.
I wonder how many devs are active in the RP community, as characters, and how big or small they are in it. Do we have devs in larger groups like CVA? Are they grunts, leaders, or both? Can I have their stuff?

If you consider mission running carebearing, then yes. I run missions in a very small corp in COSMOS space. Never mined with my main or any alts though.
PvP? Not really for me. I want to play EVE to relax and take my mind off work, even though playing and working are so intertwined in my case. Too much work to PvP.

So tell us.. does getting ganked and podded by a random allaince/corp that wardecs you just because they can in empire space add to your enjoyment of a relaxing game? Or do you personally find the ability to wardec anyone in high-sec so you can freely get killed a feature? o.O

From the posts I've read, it appears as though 'carebearing' is defined as anything that doesn't involve blasting all non-NPCs in sight, regardless of system security. It's possible that collecting loot from your victim's can is acceptable, and if so, you can probably instant-sell it on the market. If you salvage your victim's wreck or accidentally blow up an NPC, however, you are a carebear.
I hope this helps!
Oh, and to Mikal Drey: Kudos on the -9 to Amarr! I envy your accomplishment. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of training a level of Diplomacy, so catching up will take a LOT of work...
