You fell for it through greed (imo). Someone offered clearly more than your bpc was worth and you let avarice stand in the way of good judgement.
10k + 1%, so 10M
I'm sorry, I didnt make myself clear the first time. I'll try again in a way you may understand.

I hope that was clearer.

While fooling around with Contracts, I've come across the option to 'delete' them. Try playing around under 'My Contracts', and setting to 'issued by' 'me' 'outstanding' and whatever to get your contract to show up on that window. Right click that, and hopefully you get the 'delete' option. Not on EVE atm, so not really sure.

You can't delete a contract that's in any status other than 'outstanding' - once someone has bid on an auction, it changes status.
Private auctions are not an exploit. If you wanted to sell something to someone from your own corp, or an allied corp and wanted to get the best price you could for it, that's a legitimate use of a private auction.
But never set the minimum bid on an auction to less than the lowest price you're willing to accept. It really is that simple.

I personally feel bad for the OP. But, I also think that the scammer getting what he worked for. Tough luck mate, and my condolences on loosing the battleship to this; but this is how this game is.
I hope you will be able to recover from your loss.
Good Luck.

this may sound contravercial but you had it coming to you. a guy tryed this with me yesterday and i was chatting away seeing the isk and what i would spend it on in my head filling out the contract and it hit me... *MINUMUM BID OF 1MIL ISK* then it clicked he will put a mil on it and wait the time out, and all my crying in the world wouldnt stop it. up till that point i had not heared of this scam as i havnt really gotten into selling on contract just buying. but +oz of commancence could have saved you, if you lacked it or were to busy thinking isk isk and more isk, yo deserved it in my opinion,
not to mention having that much isk as a new player *cough* ALT *cough* or *cough* E-bay *cough* Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed dimensions of 400x120 pixels and filesize of 24000 bytes -Conuion Meow ([email protected]) |

Pvp'er contacted me and said me that he'll buy it at buyout price (1B). He said me that to lower taxes, i've to made a private auction contract to his corp (pvp'er corp), starting bid 1M and buyout of 1B. I know that I'm a noob, but i've done it. Now he has already done a bid, so i can't cancel theauction. But it's a swindle, he'll never take the buyout, so i only want to cancel my contract! This is the chat we had:
Please, at least I want to cancel my order!

1. Use Item Exchange contracts when doing an item exchange. 2. Seller pays taxes, not buyer. 3. Private Item Exchange contract costs only 10k isk in taxes. 4. If you make an auction that only one corp can bid on with a start of 1m isk... what did you expect?
Those are 4 simple bits of common sense you ignored.

This will be addressed in Revelations 1.4. Till then, this is a valid game mechanic and the only thing I can recommend is that you do as Ionia says.

How about you apply to join that corp with an alt then bid on it yourself?
Or contact someone else in that corp and make a deal with them if they help you out?
Or hire some mercs and wardec that corp?
For the cost of the 1 billion you are losing you could inflict some serious damage in response. This *is* a pvp game you know

make it easy, ppl should be able to cancel the contracts but then apply a 5% fee for stupidity of the current highest bid or auction value. this way you will have only a small loss, it¦s still your fault to set up the stupid contract and you have something to think about

Heh some idiot tried this on me, I just gave him the link to the item exchange and told him if he wanted it I would pay the taxes. He logged off and shortly after a new character with a slightly similar name appeared in local.
I just love that CCP enforce the letter of the rules and not the spirit. But what can you do about it?

Problem is, once they start legislating these things and arbitrating over them they get flooded with vast numbers of endless petitions about it. And at the end of the day things like this can be easily avoided by players.
Never trust a stranger and always look for the trap. If the great offer walks through the door be wary.
Tbh though I'm not sure why ppl don't just use direct trading more often. You put your item in the box, they put their isk in and you can both clearly see what you're getting. And if you don't like it you just don't click ok. For a 1bill trade I'd make the special trip to meet the guy in person.

This sort of thing, in any other game that I have played, would be seen as an exploit and addressed by the devs in short order.
That said, this is Eve. A lot of tremendously sleazy people play this game (no offense sleazebags), and exploit the hyper-complexity of Eve to trick the unimformed (which is the vast majority of the playerbase). It is sad to hear events like this where something so simple is used to rob a player of the profits of months (years?) of gameplay.
Based upon other experiences, this event is likely to lead to the op closing his account and moving on. I'm glad to hear this exploit (and it really is, whether CCP wants to call it that or not) is being dealt with in 1.4. |

Sleazy? Exploit? Umm, no. Eve does not protect you from your own stupidity or inability to play the game. It is exactly this which makes Eve great. ----------

Edited by: Argenton Sayvers on 16/02/2007 13:53:58 Oveur, how exactly do you plan to fix this?
1. You can ruin some of the last useful things left with contracts - "standing-based" auctions that only allow bidders you like (corp / alliance).
2. You can finally introduce taxes to private auctions, reducing the pain stupid people feel because they got scammed trying to evade something that actually exists.
(and ruin contracts for the last remaining people who actually use it)
3. ???
4. You cannot patch human stupidity, so whats your solution?
As for the sploit-criers. Wrong alliance ticker ... The OP tried to "exploit" - by avoiding taxes. Why are you moralists not flaming him? Too bad there arent any taxes though.

Holy hell dude; how on earth did you manage to fall for a scam so extravagantly obvious? Hell, I'm hesitant to even call it a scam; he basically just said "hay can i have that billion isk ship for free" and you said "LOL OK" and now you're going "WTF HAX". I think there are molluscs who wouldn't have fallen for that.

Workaround for this is finding the contract on the list with the character that made it and then drag it into an eve-mail or chat. From there it can be accessed by whoever it was issued to. ___________________________________________________
