Today we have two new Chronicles for you.
The first is Methods of Torture - The Caldari, the last in the torture tetralogy. As I mentioned in relation to the Gallente story, this one serves as a counterpoint, and is as cerebral as the Gallente one was physical.
The second is on the Amarr order known as The Speakers of Truth. They've been quiet for a long while, but may not be much longer.

Deal the least amount of damage to acheive a purpose. Don't kill for the sake of killing, keep your subject alive to serve its purpose as deterrent for others. Don't take pleasure in dealing pain. Heck, don't deal physical pain at all, if possible. If you must kill, do it quick and clean.
Cold, methodical efficiency. Nothing more, nothing less. Well, what can I say, Caldari at its best. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

I love it.
However, if it were me, I would be more of a Gallente-style torturer. Not that I would ever, you know, do things like that. >_>

Well,
These 4 chronicals have been very good. Each with thier own unique, slightly twisted edge.
I think the Galentte one was the most disturbing for me, and the minmatar once the most phycological (for me anyways).
Very nice work, i enjoyed reading them all.

Wait wait did the guy ever get free?
Or was the whole time he traped, and just going mad? Like including the part where he wen't shoping and found the old friend?
What was the point of leaving him with the images behind his eyes?

I think they let him go free, but the constant images would keep torturing him into insanity for the rest of his life.
Scary...

Into insanity? I'd say that he went into insanity, through insanity and came out the other side into somewhere even weirder

Well, that really was an eye opener. My take is that the person is allowed to steadily progress into insanity while the whole community is forced to watch. The induced images together with the isolation ... it makes me shudder.
Something that bothered me, though I might just have missed it, is that there seems to be no explicit conditioning that stops the subject from commiting suicide. Is this because the person is allowed to escape his punishment (through suicide) and thus showing how weak he is or was is such a prevention there, just simply not mentioned because it would detract from the main point of the story? ----------------------------------

It reminds me a lot of the end 1984, where Winston Smith is released once he has been broken, and everyone avoids him. He knows that one day the bullet in the back of his neck will come, and he rejoices for this day. __________________________________________ "In girum imus nocte, et consumimur igni."

There's some differences between Caldari and Gallente cultures but their shared history is showing here. They're both quite capable of getting whatever information they want with ease. Their torture is for show, to set an example.
Just like in the Gallente story, he's really being used as an example to others. Don't cause trouble or you will be damaged and images left in your mind to torture you for the rest of your life. They did the same in the Gallente story - they just didn't need the implant since the subject had a short life expectancy. |

I found the difference between the caldari and the gallente meathods was that the caldari torturers were doctors, who were perceived as being cold, mechanical and precise. They did what was necessary to make an example out of someone in their own uniqe way.
The gallente torturers were more personal with the victim and seemed to take enjoyment in the fear they inflicted, such as by showing him the tools of torture and asking him what he could do, even though there was no correct answer.
Great stories the torture series.

Now thats it! Definately the right tone this time, disturbing and nothing about it feels out of place or excessive. It never breaks the imersion in the story. Very reminisant of the Manchurian Candidate (probably the remake, never got a chance to see the original), very creepy. ----

I disagree, as his 'old friend' was 'treated' the same way it's not an example. It is efficient, that is all. This way the offender can never gain any job or function of power or control. His 'treatment' would prevent this. But he will still be usefull as a common worker. The Gallente have to many people it seems.. Caldari however do not waste workforce....
