PA and SO are just griefers, any time they face opposition that could actually inflict some loses they flee or log off. Favourite tactics include station camping.

Station camping is an unfortunate but necessary part of hisec PvP, but so is roaming, gate camping, interceptors and every other part of this game you want to whine about. We can't just sit in belts all day and hope someone jumps on us.

You can't just say they are griefers right off the bat like that.
They aren't in it for a fair fight, or even to win fights for that matter.
PA & SA are just in it for fun. Dying isn't fun, thus they avoid fights where they will die. Richer privateers will often go into tough fights though, because the isk loss isn't enough to make it unfun.
See, they go by a different scale, very few other corps have players who truly play only for fun. Most players have other, long term goals, like isk gain, or furthering their corp's cause.

I'm sure that some people might say that. However, they are using the game mechanics in the desired way, to war dec people.
Besides it doesn't matter what people say, it's what the GM says that counts. Btw, you shouldn't let the chance of getting killed scare you off from joining a corp. 90% of the fun in this game comes from having good mates, who look out for each other etc.
Fact to the matter is, that unless you go and join some big alliance straight off of the bat, you won't get anywhere near a war dec for a long time. The issue just gets blown up on the forums.

Empire wars are part of corp life. In some cases, PVP corps encourage them as training and weeding out potential applicants. In other cases, they are just ppl looking for some fun.
It just depends on how you spin the coin. Join the corp and go pew pew. Just fly what you can afford to lose. But remember to fly smart (check local, get in a gang, use voice comms). If you are stuck in a station, undock in a shuttle and test their lock times. Experiment, have fun.
Then you will appreciate EVE.

Click on your corp tab on the left and go to the wars tab. Go to the 'other wars' tab (i think) within that and you can see who exactly we are at war with. Also click the alliances tab from that same area and you can see the ranking of the alliances by member count. We tend only to wardec the biggest alliances since we want the most targets for our money. Furthermore if you join a corp that isn't in an alliance, that corp can simply 'surrender' to our wardec and you dont have to worry about a war.
Please join a player corp or alliance. That's what this game is all about. you'll learn so much that way. We certainly dont want to prevent people from joining player corps.

I might also recommend looking into Eve University. Never been there myself, but folks that have been swear by the experience. They've got the firepower to hold their own against most empire corps, and will teach you a heck of a lot about fighting and surviving.

Hmm definition of griefer: One who derives enjoyment from ruining others enjoyment of the game.
Now that seems to describe exactly as to what PA and SO are doing, not hunting targets who are seeking PVP (and might be able to fight back) but deliberately seeking out those who have chosen to avoid PVP as much as possible, and who due to the ship setups required for non-PVP related activities have significantly less ability to fight back.
You're a griefer plain and simple.

Organized Griefers is what they are. For the most part what they do is despicable but completely legitimate. The only problem with wardecs is they can hide in stations, and that needs to be fixed. If your at war, no space should be safe, if they want a war they should have to fight it.

QFT. Most Privateers are their for the sole purpose of easy Griefing. They have taken war dec'ing too far and I really hope CCP changes some things on how war decs work.
For one I believe any Corp/Alliance war dec'ing another Corp/Alliance must have Sov of a system so it is possible to push the war dec'ers back and end the war by taking out there Sov'ed system.
There also needs to be some method of ensuring that people can't just leave an alliance/corp that currently has a war dec against another alliance/corp.
What happens is when you kill someone a few time that is in Privateers they just leave to remake some ISK in an npc corp/their old corp and then join again.
The War Dec feature was introduced when there were no alliances I believe and now that there are it really needs some tweaks.

Maybe they just like killing haulers?
When I was playing a pirate character one time a retriever undocked right next to me. Ganking that thing would have been the high point of my short lived career.

To simply say that Privateers are there for the sole purpose of griefing is rediculous. Yes, they catch a hauler or a Mission runner every now and then. But a greater portion of their kills comes from actual fighting. At least that is how it is for the majority of the corps in PA. Are you trying ot tell me that corps such as x13, or Panzershrek, or even DofA were/are part of privateers just to hit haulers? Fool. They were all in it because of the plethora of war targets. Which meant you got to shoot something and most of the time that something shot back.
In fact all you who dismiss PA should be thanking them. They turned high sec space from a no risk to a risk. Forcing more people to move out into the 0.0 alliances who held regions under their control. Do they grief? Yes, but who doesn't.
Before you start flaming them try joining them. Then talk. It's a different kind of PvP, but so what, just because it isn't your kind doesn't mean it's wrong or is an exploit.

I do think privateers take a game mechanic too far but anyway I been in a war with them for months now constantly and they are'nt a real big uber threat if you spend most of your time in 0.0 you just mainly have to avoid hub systems but because they have so many war decced you probably have people all around you who can shoot them as well (even your enemies in empire will be shooting them). Edited by: Lord WarATron on 22/02/2007 12:30:43 Eve is a game about pvp. If everyone carebeared, then the market would collapse as nobody buys modules/ships etc, since everybody has no need to do so. On the other end of the scale, if everyone pvped, then the market would get stripped bare and supplying the market becomes a problem!
So in other words, all production ultimatly ends in pvp. If there are no targets for pvpers, then they will find creative ways of getting some.
Now I enjoy shooting a privateer as much as anyone else. I have never died to them, and I have killed more than my fair share. However, I dont call them n00bs - I understand what they are, and you get good ones and your get bad ones.
I see cut-throat pirate corps are building up their sec rating to jump into empire wars with Privateers. I assume the reason is lack of targets in low sec. I dont blame them, and insted look forward to the challange. If anything - Privateers are becoming a more dangerous force everyday.
Eve is about adapting. The days of AFK traveling in a expensive setup/ship are over. Moving a t2 bpo under a wardec? Then you better get some escorts. If you cannot adapt, then Starter corps are always recruiting I hear. --

You realise that the Privateers have about as much co-ordination as the average brick, right? Just because it's an alliance of corps, you shouldn't expect them to fight or act as one in this case. |

There is alot in common with the war dec arguments and the scrambleable MS arguements.
The argument for the privateers on why they should be allowed to do what they do is that they pay an arm and a leg for it.
And the argument for unscramble able super capitals is they cost so much. .

I know in any group there are some who take it too far. I'm a casual gamer and maybe get on about 2-3 times a week and just wanted to enjoy it without having someone bogart it for me. I'm not afraid to lose ships or afraid to join a alliance/corp that has a war dec. to PA or SO. I was just taking a general consensus and maybe hear from some of you in those alliances.
If possible I would like to hear from someone in that alliance of why this all got started. Eve-mail me if possible.

1/ You're wrong in every way. Privateers don't seek anyone out, they roam, gate to gate, if they catch someone they die. Sometime they sit outside a station/gate, in the hopes of snaring someone. With warp to 0 getting ganked on a gate is very hard unless you're in a BS or freighter.
99% of the people we engage are PvP-fitted T2 ships who are out looking for us, just look at our killboard ffs! But I know you won't lest it proves you wrong.
2/ Post with your main if you want to be taken seriously. ---
