is mission runners just hated by ccp? i remembered a time where you could actually make a great deal of isk by running lvl 3 and 4 missions, but it seems be have gone down hill very fast... it's almost before its not worth even running the missions any more. is this because mission running for isk is just hated by ccp? or how come? ___________________________________________

I seem to recall a recent post that included a couple devs that basically said that they are mostly mission runners themselves.
But that dev-blog that was linked in the 2nd post should cheer you up. Lvl 5-6-7's in the works by this summer, including gang and capital sized missions. Should be some good stuff hopefully, I'm just getting back into missions myself, so looking forward to the nice faction booty.

Maybe it has something to do with how easy it was...you know, risk vs reward. _________________________ ~Thor Xian, Material Defender

Level 4 will become closer to Level 3 in difficulty, the jump up will not be as drastic as it is now. Level 5 will be the new level, consisting partly of the most difficult Level 4 missions, but mainly new missions. New missions in Levels 4 and up will focus on the escalating warfare between the Empires and factions. This incidentally enables you to engage Dreadnoughts, Carriers and Motherships. Levels 5 and up are all in 0.4 security and below.

"The majority of these new missions will not have ISK bounties on NPCs"
New missions in Levels 4 and up will focus on the escalating warfare between the Empires and factions.
Encourages colonization of low security, the higher population providing pirates with more, but tougher (capital-ship-driving-group-flying) pilots.
Slowly involves the "PvE" player in more "PvP" EVE activity.
1/ Killing off activities other than PvP is not going to stop inflation. Stopping macros and T2 BPO lotteries stops inflation. 2/ Enforcing roleplaying on the whole playerbase is extremely ftl. 3/ Forcing PvE players to die to PvP players will lead to cancelled subscriptions, not better population densities. 4/ See 1/, 2/ and 3/.
I know this might seem a bit rich coming from a Privateer but i'm very proud of my carebear roots. 750K lp with good old Lallencard... ---

Edited by: Ragornok on 22/02/2007 04:03:51 Well, to play devils advocate, part of it is to get capital ships into the missions as both players and NPC's. You can't do that in .7 space, so you HAVE to push those missions out into low-sec space. But I also don't see many pirate squads out there which will be able to gank a Phoenix or Nidhogger before the other mission-runners in local, also in capitals, can come to help out. These aren't going to be the defenseless carebears undocking from Jita 4-4 all day long, they are going to have some serious skills and hardware with them (in theory).
The real question, and challenge, is going to be making the reward system sufficient to justify driving them out into low-sec.
Oh, and that last Dev-blog has them sizing up the coffin for the BPO lotteries. Yeah, invention needs work, but it's in the pipe.

This change if it was to come about is going to solve a multitude of problems.
1) the empire overcrowding, 0.5 systems are packed to the gills with people, the roids cannot support this, I see more cans in 0.5 than roids about 12 hours after they respawn. Reasoning for this statement comes in 3. 2) lvl 4s are the top of soloable NPC combat, higher lvl missions are not, things like 8/10 cosmoses and such, this forces people in corps to actually gang up to do a lvl 5. 3) no lvl 5 in high sec means that corps will move to low sec, this includes the industrial and miner alts.
Eve is about whatever you want it to be, CCP just recognizes that people want to work together on something epic like lvl 5-7s. I imagine lvl 7s will be like the events of the olden days. Kill a stolen dread/carrier/mothership.
I would really like to see capitol pirate NPCs, Sashas in dreadnoughts, guista carriers and Drone Motherships. ------------- Midshipman Lithalnas - Logistics Division - Hadean Drive Yards

What ? ANOTHER nerf to high sec missioning ?
*Ding,Ding,Ding* We have a winner.
level 4 missions..(they call them level 5, but anyone with sense can see through that smokescreen)..are getting moved entirely to lowsec, level 1 - 3.5 (the *new* level 4) are stuck in highsec...so real level 4 mission runners have a choice, do the "new" level 4 in highsec, which sound like they're badly nerfed..or do the old school level 4 missions (the "new" level 5) in low sec, and prepare to bend over as the pirates and gankers flock to the mission systems.
/me sighs the sh*t storm this and the end of the T2 lottery are going to raise is a noble attempt to drown out the memories of Dev corruption...let's see if it works. I'm just an Alt....but my main doesn't have a sig either.

I seem to recall a blog that said at work (at CCP) they have to run missions ad nauseum to check for balance and bugs and such so when they play the last thing they want to see is another mission so they PvP.

a t2 bpo doesn't cause inflation.
No isk is directly 'created' from a t2 bpo.
Wheras mission running, isk is being magically 'created' off npc bounties.

Edited by: Shameless Avenger on 22/02/2007 05:31:49 Missions *use to be* profitable. Yes, you could make a billion in a couple of week (provided you had no life). But missions received a few nerfs and now don't worth doing. And the nerfs are:
All cash rewards. We used to receive a payment (ISK) and a reward in the form of trade goods. They were a pain to sell sometimes. We whined. Now we got payment AND reward in ISK. But the ISK reward is only a fraction of what we used to get with the trade goods. Whining not always work.
Crapy storylines. Before, almost every storyline gave you a +4 implant. Now we have more variety of storyline missions but only a few give implants. You can have 4 storylines in a row with not implant at all. Not worth doing considering the faction standing hit from the rival faction.
Unworthy loot. This one is self explanatory.

Edited by: Decard Sune on 22/02/2007 05:50:57 Well looks like the pirates won, level 4 missons are being moved to low sec and they'll have easy targets galore.
Any casual mission runners that do remain will be stuck doing even less profitable high sec missions, guess the monthly payments from casual players aren't worth as much to CCP as those from the pirates.

I have seen nothing to indicate that they've decreased the rewards for running missions. I think they may have changed the loot tables. The issue is that you can basically grind isk with no risk, so they are always trying to balance it out. ----------------------------------------------------

When i log onto eve i don't have 6 hours to wait for a gang and then wait for the node to resart after wwe find the enemy Missions are nice and relaxing for me. boring as hell sometimes but then i mod the ship setup to either do them with the lowest tank or see what i can do them in, lvl2 missions in a covert ops for example.
If CCP are pushing everyone toward PVP then they better get better cluster (doing so all the time, playerbase is pushing back with larger fleets) or add something else i can do with little time In-game. ------------------------------------------

About the first, I already stated the most significant mission nerfs. About the balancing...*cough*T2 BPO Owners*cough*.
Right now there is only one thing that's *really* good about missions. But if I mention it, it's gonna get nerfed... |

Dunno what crap missions your doing but i made 500 Mil in 5 days doing lvl 4 missions. Not to mention having loot still to refine and have built rigs which have not currently been put on sale.
Missions like The Blockade oe AE/GE and Worlds Collide give 30 Mil + in bounties alone

Attempts to force those that do not wish to leave empire to leave empire, will most likely result in more lost subscriptions.
I don't have a problem with new more powerful missions, but fundamentally changing the current level 4s, calling them level 5s then and moving them all to low sec is going to see some folks just quitting.
It is nice to see them working on some level missions that have gangs and possibly even capital ships involved though.
Just kinda leery of it all is all.

Exactly, this isnt a nerf to missions, this is a MASSIVE superpowered nerf bat to solo 'omggrindisksendpricesup' players in a MMOG. definate win win there.
