Its true...these days you dont get "even-number"-fights that often
You have to handle the problem with tactics, teamwork and trappin. Its curious that the players gettin more rich every day, but dont want to lose theyre ships. I think the real problem is that if you loose a fleetfight several threads at the forums will be opened and blaim the loser to be noobs. _____________________________________________

There gang responses are from 5-15 people. Very fun fights indeed.

Modern EVE sucks. No need to say more.
POSes were the first nail in the coffin, capitals were the second and titans the last.

Originally by: Gallente Caliente Small gank squads are what it's all about. Sure we are going for numbers, but not to do 50 man gangs but 10 gangs of 5 pilots in various systems. Small-scale PVP is the best IMHO. I'm not a big fan of the lagfests and getting popped before you've even started to fight. My first ever alliance op was hours and hours of warping around and positioning, a much lagged warp into the battlezone resulting in a pod before my screen even came back, and then a long trip home thinking "WTF, how was that fun now?!?"

I hate what POS warfare and capital ships have done to the game. The idea was great, but the implementation...sucks. It takes too much investment of real life time and energy to deal with the current state of warfare in 0.0, which completely destroys the fun factor. This is a game, after all, and the object is to enjoy yourself, so something needs to be done.
EDIT: And small-scale engagements are ftw. I'm glad more people are finally starting to catch onto that. Hopefully we'll see some changes in EVE soon that make them possible again. -Wrayeth "Look, pa! I just contributed absolutely nothing to this thread!"

No question that, for me, small scale is the most fun to be had in Eve. Yes you can find a great equally matched fight it just doesn't happen every day but what a rush when it does happen
For example, low sec fight yesterday with my Abaddon and sentries (wish they would focus fire ) versus Domi (who did a great job keeping his drones alive), Raven, Rapier - Raven got out of disruptor range at 70% structure and lost me one Abaddon shortly afterwards but great fun and of course no lag monster.
As for the capital scale - fighting for territory has never been so dull imho - leave poses and caps to someone else and go out and have a blast skirmishing instead! Kind of like rl - most of us will never be remembered for anything trully great so make sure you go out and have some fun instead...

But yeah I love small gang warfare. We've had a few with the Morsus Mihi guys in the latest contract (including some larger ones) and all in all it was way more fun for me than fleet battles.
I miss the days when I could get the entire CFS navy to chase me from HED- to a-2 and all around that area and I miss the warp invulnerability and the 10 second invul timer that made a solo pilot invncible.
Ok, scrath those last two :P

as always, we agree completely. i'm gonna try to stretch an analogy i think gets to the root of this....
Anyone watch stargate? If you do, remember how cool the show was in first few seasons?? (yes, i'm going somewhere with this, bear with me )
Of course as time went on, after first few seasons, teh producers weren't happy w/ the 'scale' of the show. The enemies had to get bigger and badder, the weapons had to get bigger and badder. By the latest seasons, suddenly ppl are shooting guns that destroy all life in a particular galaxy (yea, needless to say i stopped watching)
This is an awful trend to get stuck in...its called one upping yourself. Whether your a TV show, computer game, novel author, whatever... you can succumb to this. You begin to make new things for the sake of making them, and eventually you become obsessed with the 'ultimate' form of your masterpiece. The only issue is... the more you one up yourself, the further away from your original artwork you get.
CCP. Once you lose sight of what made this game great to begin with its time to stop, reflect and roll back the clock a bit. Otherwise, your great ideas, whether they be (new ships, weapons, upgraded soverignty system WHATEVER) will bury what it is that brought ppl to the game to begin with.
....and once that happens... well look at Stargate, ppl stop watching and the show gets cancelled

Small gangs are fun, fun is fun. Winning is funner but loosing is stil erm.... fun.
have I said fun enough in the smae sentance to make the hint?
Answers to Ops questions:
1) yes - deffinately - wish I had more reds though :( 2) never heard of that happening in my neck of the woods - perhaps n need though - small alliances battling ou ftw¼! 3) *Deffinately*
My question:
What is the commmitment required in a MMO to win out right in the pvp stakes?
Personally, with the present state of POS warefare, I can't see the point in building a large home in 0.0 as it is so easily destoyed. Hence, I'd rather buld a smallish home and keep the capital safe so we can start again if need be. This equals maximum small time pew-pew with minimum blobidge or logistics. But thats just my two cents :)

Quote: 1. Are there anymore engagements like that? Anywhere?
yes in low sec areas, the reason is that those nano vagas and intys get shredded by the gun's, and yes in a state of war the guns are silent but if you live in a hostile area you need your isk keep the fleet up and not the war dec's up.
Quote: 2. To have such a fight do you need to talk to your enemy to bring even numbers ( thinking that they will, rare but yea) ?
sorry m8 but no knights of the round table in this game. only time you have balanced fights are by random or 1 vs 1 duels from my experience.
Quote: 3. I`m thinking they are the best fights from all eve, no lag, much fun. Whats your opinion on it.
even small scale fights in low sec lags if there are 10-12 ships with drones out, when we go to fight we turn of everythng of grapics/sound effects just to avoid a total slideshow tho not a six minute lag it's annoying to see half your shield on your ferox is gone b4 you flick on the booster and get a lock

I agree that ccp have taken eve down this path to some extent, pos seemed like a good way to go to stop stations being overrun by a big gang and taken in a matter of hours making having any assets on a takable station risky when a blob could steamroll in and pop the station. However the step was taken and has led to many boring weeks in eve of pos assaulting etc bringing numbers to defend the expensive toys we have in game etc etc. all this is valid points on the state of gameplay now however one factor seems to have been over looked.
We have to play using the mechanics given to us in this game, but what is stopping us as a community from fixing the problems, if we all agree that the state of gameplay is dire that bringing numbers to a fight to an extent that there is no fight as such then we have the power to fix this.
What would happen in theory if alliances came to a basic rule of engagement fixing territory boundaries somehow, agreeing to resort to pos warfare only in certain cercumstances. Anyone breaking the rules would face the power of all the other power blocks to end their fun spoiling tactics. After all that seems to be what the outcry is against BOB, every1 is saying enough is enough we wont tollerate those things and foprming a super block to wipe out one entity in the game.
I am no diplomat and politics annoy me, but surley people who are that way inclined could come to arrange some form of unilatteral rules of conflict that can minimise pos wars and allow us to get back to smaller engagements where we pit ship against ship and players against players instead of pos blobing boredom and will sapping campaigns.
I have seen people wage campaigns on home territories attacking the isk making of alliances to great effect without ever bringing blobbing gangs or pos destroying forces, lots of fun for all and effective in hurting an alliance or entity. Maybe just a dreamer with these utopian desires of eve gameplay but meh politics stink pew pew rocks.

Most of my eve time is spent looking for them small engagements, unfortunatly eve is rapidly going down hill in that fighting is dirtier now and numbers = win.
See a lot of people tanked obscenly to get aggro whilst the whole of there aliance comes in to "help" kill you.
Fortunatly when you do get an even fight in which *** 4tw dirty tactics are employed, it almost makes up for the hundreds of times being ganked 10-1....even when loosing an even fight i still have fun normally.
Bring back castor pertition thread anyone?

Sadly for most off us to kit out a t3 battleship with t2 mods would take good few hours of game play lets say for argumements sake 5 hours = 250,000,000
I,m concervative there in most cases a lot LOT more, then they go to battle on fleet opps after a lengthy voyage and emergency warps it takes a hour thats including waiting for stragglers and such.
bear in mind this isnt including running about buying your gear in the first place.
You get to your place of battle and boom you get titan,d in ten seconds. way to go had some great fun:
CCP needs to look at T2 prices and the overall market prices before they can even concider this even being remotley close to fun.
And I know they have made some steps with somethings. invention, new regions, min prices, but in whole nothing has changed. My 2 cents worth anyway:

Great idea, oh no wait a second......we just tryed that and got kicked out by 3-1 odds for 3 weeks, in the end boiled down to a cant be bothered.

I think it would be fixed if they made more solar systems and perhaps two empires seperated by 0.0. Make it twice the size it is now.
I think that would be awesome!

not too long ago september or so
a bunch of friends together just travelling through 0.0 alliance spaces
you can find the small size fights u want not easy as most alliances will blob u fast just have to keep moving
remember i had alot of fun with LV at the times jump in their core system scan some of their ships down kill them get out run go to nother alliance core system jump kill a few and run or go back to lv space kill some more but after a while these alliance learnt the trick and kept at it to kill us
trick...KEEP MOVING harass many alliances
that involves alot of travelling
like 90-130jumps a day which is fair enough at the times with instas now with warp to 0 its even easier
just have to know what and who to target and ull find the small engagements ur looking for
check my bio ull see how many angry ppl didnt like me for doing such thing

I'll vouch that small gang warfare is still around.
In a way it's a trade of power for fun: you get to fight challenging and fun battles, where your own part has huge impact on your results. But as trade off, you'll have to be running from half of the potential fights, and can't hold territory.
You will get even more fights if you are willing to engage hostile that has somewhat better fleet than you, at least when counted by ships.
At one point I was aiming for fleet warfare, but so far it doesn't look temtping at all.

1) blob warfare is BULL**** warfare , but in pos warfare you gotta do it .
2) titan's are killing eve , but in a world where they exist it's better to have than to have not .
3) ganksquads are the only decent lag free combat in eve because if you give the enemy time to prepare hell just blob you , dock or log
that's the state of eve right now
