So has anyone found any mercoxite yet? Would be really interested in any reports.
Do we mine just regular ore or is it a separtate ore, mecroxite, that is needed?
Bueller, Bueller, anyone!?!

I vaguely recollect seeing morphite (the end product of DCM) on one of the mid to low end ore information sheets (can't remember which one unfortunately). Check the info for each ore type - it might still be there
Mercoxit ore is in low sec space

It's just hilarious on how ppl are flocking to buy this new laser and the skills to use it, yet they got no clue as to where it's located. Yes, I understand the concept of being ready for when it is found, but what if it's found out in 0.0 space and your a freelancer or in a corp thats in empire space?

The new ore is VERY, VERY deep in 0.0 space, in spots where the Bistot is (perhaps ark, don't have confirmed sitings of Ark yet).
DCM is currently 100% impossible due to the NPC rats in these areas. 10 BSes couldn't protect a miner from these rats for enough time to mine any meaningful ammount of ore.
You guys that are training DCM right now? If you can't fly a POWERFUL BS with all shield and cap skills, and don't have 5-15 heavily armed friends you're wasting your time until CCP fixes the NPC belt rats.

Thanks Stepping for the information.
Will be looking for a good corp now.
There is no way I can defend myself in 0.0 space even before Castor. Oh I have some good defense skills and some protection skills, but nothing that will protect me from the current Castor NPCs. I don't think my Heavy drones will protect me enough...
Again thanks for the information from everyone. Makes it easier for me not to worry about this right now.

Quote: Err...Is that a joke?
DCM needs 20+ days in training...Due to astogeology lvl5. That's a point I agree...
You need special lasers...OK...No problem.
You need special frigate...Nice.
BUT you can't buy it because it's up to players to build them...Nice...So it needs morphite to build them? If so, were you get it? From DCM ?

I hope it's a joke..."Fortunately" I cannot play this week...
/me hopes it will be fixed SoonÖ..
you can mount a DCM laser on other (larger) ships, just not on tech1 frigates, because of the requirements for the laser. You use the DCM laser to mine the meroxite, which is then used by builders with special skills and tools (and trade goods) to build other tech2 ships and items.

Nothing worth this much should be easy to get. I think ccp has done a great job with the pirates and mining in the 0.0 space. Finally those alliances will have to work to get there highend ore instead of it being easy for them

I dont see wat the big deal is about finding this new ore. I found it 12 hours after the patch was updated (was asleep and at work for that 12 hours and thats the only reason it took THAT long). I mean jeez. make an expendable alt (and i emphasize expendable) and u can figure out wat to do from there :P as for mining it, GL to anyone who tries.

Well, we were told it would be the core of larger roids and be in Empire space. We were also told you'd need a crew to scoop it up after the miner with the DCM laser blasted it out of the core of a roid. This was due to the fact that it was highly unstable and would dissapate rapidly if exposed to space.
I take it this is not the case. Can anyone confirm this?

I can confirm that it isn't the case--I've tried using the DCML on large 'roids in Empire space.
I have heard reports of it being WAY out there, but they are unconfirmed.
As for me, I'm rather disappointed in CCP, I think it would have been much better had DCM been as originally invisioned. As I said in another thread, it looks like Mercoxite is going to turn into the new 'bistot.' ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Yep, thats pretty lame IMO. BEing in an allaince I can get it eventually, but I was hoping this ore/mineral would bring a different dimension to the game. Maybe its just not implemented properly yet. Lets hope its not the next bistot, because that would be pointless.
Personally, I was hoping it would require a little more effor than drag-drop mining. Still hopefull...

We've been mining it for some hours. Very difficult task. But also very fun.
And when you mine, a gas cloud appear, which deal 140 damage about every 45 seconds. Which means that the gas cloud destroyes usual "jettison cargo cans".

Very nice dalman.
Question, if you'd care to share, how many people were guarding, did you take any losses, and how much of the stuff have you gotten?
Also, I'd really like to know how much Morphite you get from one refine of Mercoxit. ------------- My salsa makes all the pretty girls want to dance and take off their underpants. I <3 ( . Y . ) |

I don't know I have DCM but haven't been able to get any mercoxit. I don't know how you're supposed to get it to work but when I can figure it out that'll be good.

Edited by: dalman on 18/12/2003 02:44:39 I don't know the numbers really. I was guarding all the time. And we only had one miner mining Mercoxit (and another miner mining bistot).
I heard that a refine of 250 merc gave about 500 morphite, but I'm not sure of that.
We were not very many. So, as I said, it was very difficult but very fun.
No ship losses at all during the op, though one of the guarding battleships had to return early to repair after being smacked down to 1000 armor and 3000 structure left.
*edit* "one miner" = one battleship fitted with 5 DCM lasers.
*edit 2* Oh, and 1 unit merc = 40 m^3. And one refine require 250 units = 10.000 m^3

My question is what do you have to mine? I mean I thought you could DCM any ore. But when I activated my laser I only got the regular ore.
