You don`t need a command ship but a Flag ship which has command abilities but not a pure fighter but is there in the battlefield to command the fleet in battle with skills to do that and abilities for that role....
I think CCP such seriously consider this....as 1-Carriers are for fighter support, 2-BS,BC well they have own role as protection and attack, 3 Dreads are for the protection of the carrier and the Flag ship which cordinates the attack.
Titans not shore what role they will take in the fleet but i think a flag ship is a must and it should have COV op`s abilities like Cloaking as it needs to stay say safe....!!!!!!!!!!

What's wrong with incredibly powerful T2 combat battleships in the first place?
Risk versus reward.
You're risking ONE HELL of an isk investment by flying one, hence it SHOULD kick some serious ass.
Not to mention the humiliation of having one go *pop*.
What about the satisfaction of KILLING one? Eh, eh? EH?!

Well, I kind of answered that question in a post on the first page.In case you can't be arsed to read the long version there, here's the short version. Right now, the "top of the foodchain" for regular ships (as opposed to cap-ships) is collectively held by command ships, battlesips, recons and hac's each with their own merits and flaws. It is plain bad manners to upset that balance with a "final goal" ship that is simply "bigger-better-meaner" than anything else and hence if you want the best you can get it HAS to be it, because anything larger than a frigate would be dead once it meets it (i leave frigs out because it's so easy to run from anything in these).
Capships don't fit in the above comparison because they have their own chain and their own unique limitations.

Of course make anything thats stationary and cannot move go right through the shield for balance. Like sentry and station guns |

There is a path to T2 Battleships through Invention, but I have not heard of anyone getting one through this.
Is this one of these black hole sinks that will eat your invention salvage stuff no matter how hard you try?

Edited by: Esurnir on 05/03/2007 22:00:34 Excuse me to interupt you guys but... Would an excellent ship to be fleet commander on the battlefield be the carrier ? Reduction to use link warfare mods. Ultra heavy tank of doom, especially with spider tank. And most of the time wont get under attack before the support fleet get squashed.
Wouldn't that fit as the a good command ship that everyone ask about ? (heavy tanking, link warfare).
Btw the way, it is stated that the current t1 battleship will to remain as the battlehorse of the fleet, his main punch. The teeth of the fleet, with the capital ship designed as "combat multiplyer" ----

Maybe we will see T2 battleships. If we do, they should in no way have assault setups. CBCs are, imo, more tank and gank than EVE should have. T2 BS should have two types which I've stated before:
Flagship and Heavy Interdictor
The Flagship would be able to fit 8 gang mods, they would have 4-5 weapon hardpoints at most, no damage bonuses, two tank bonuses, two gang bonuses (gang warfare link bonus and titan-style stat boost, but only 1% per level). In the hands of a highly skilled leadership char, they would be the best possible gang-boosting ship, next to a titan.
Heavy Interdictors would get a unique gravity well mod. When activated, all warping and jumping on the entire grid is disabled. Cyno field generation is also disabled. The Heavy Interdictor would be lighter and agile, like the destroy-based interdictors, however they would have similiar firepower to their t1 counterparts.
Best idea on this page by far imho -

hard to fit large remo reps on a logi cruiser :( and carriers allredy fit capital size...
You can fit 6 large shield transfers on a basilisk. Which is as many high slots as you have. OK it does take grid upgrades, but it's definitely doable. For bonus points, since the time when rigs came in, it's also possible to run all 6 sustainably. This takes much more effort though (e.g. T2 rigs)

I like the flagship and heavy interdictor ship. I would like to propose another role I think would be interesting for a new (T2) BS: convoy escort.
Think BS sized ship with good resists and armour/shield boosting/repping, but only if it shares this with an industrial/freighter/whatever-class ship. Without sharing it is marginally worse than the (T1) BS we have now.
There are several ways this can be implemented, but a dedicated module only these BS can reasonably fit could be the easiest. Some examples exist for this in the game already.
Something like uber-support/logistics ship for specific ship classes only. Take away the support function and its average, below average even. Combine the ship in a convoy and it can actually help defend off attackers while protecting the convoy ships against damage. There is a weakness though (there always should be one), if attackers break the escort's tank, the convoy reverts to the state we have now.
I've always found it strange that, unlike RL, the EVE universe never developed some dedicated protection ships for industrial ships. -- Drone users unite! Support drone whinage |
