which one do you think will be good?
I tried the demo of supreme commander and... ugh? what? why it need a heavy computer? why every "faction" got the same structures with different effects? why the "only" difference are the units? why the power/cap needed are the same for every faction? I didn't like it...
I'm downloading right now the demo of command and conquer... I hope it's better....

supreme commander rules!!!! Its one of the best games i think i have ever played, the teams diversify once you get into the higher levels... either way its more tactical... you have tanks walkers ceptors anti air, you have to use them tacticically supporting each other with the help of..
oh and it needa heavy computer because of the immense amount of power it uses.. might have tosmthing to do with the newtonian physics.. i cant imagien trying to work out the trajectorys and such of 8000 different units and thier weapons fire... as well as rendereing the entire thing.. and an 81km X 81km map...
I think its a great game.. just had 4 games today, very much enjoyed them all, C&C3 will have a good storyline.. but i dont see it being as good as a game as supreme commander is.... and pretty much every RTS has the same structures with different effects
Like C&C for example... airfield... airfield... War factory.. war factory.. they just have different names... and different units.. some of which are the same and some arent.. i dont get your point..

I haven't tried Supreme Commander yet, corp mates tell me it's good so maybe I'll give it a go.
I haven't got my hopes up for C&C3, EA has a habit of disappointing me. RTS is what got me started on PC games years ago, first with Command and Conquer then Outpost 2 and TA. They haven't gotten much better since then sadly

Edited by: Vari on 27/02/2007 00:47:48 Let's face it, that last good C&C game was Red Alert 1. And with their publisher being EA now, that's just a very bad sign. The only really good game EA has made in the past few years is Battlefield 2.
Supreme Commander destroys a computer because it's Total Annihilation 2.0. TA itself simulated all projectiles, and gave you command queues for units. It also ran not-so-well on the computers of that time. I haven't played strategy games since then because they're all a step backwards. Just the same old rock paper scissors game play, and as TA's designer said, they're all games of tactics, not strategy. Unit limits are found everywhere, and they like to tell you how many units a group can have.
TA1 didn't have this, and SupCom doesn't. And every faction has slightly different units. Cybrans are more stealth based. Aeon are speedier. Cybran has direct laser fire, so they rarely miss. Otherwise the races are alike just because Chris Taylor said so, just as Macs have built computers with one mouse button for 25 years. It helps switching races based on your whim easier. This isn't a game that gives you value through races that are wildly different, it gives you value through the gameplay that cannot be found in any other game.
It's the best pc game to come out in a year or two IMO. But I have yet to check out the latest C&C ...

I am at this exact point in time, 25MB of 1207MB into my CnC3 demo download!
And I'm doing it for free - not paying for a FilePlanet subscription.
All i had to do was download a 12MB prgram from EA, which looks a bit like Steam (a program that manages games like Half Life, Counter Strike, etc) and it's downloading CnC 3 demo for me :)
I might FRAPS it or screenshot it and show you :)
I got my sig snipped again. Can someone make me a new one? |

I've played the S.C. demo. The game is not bad. It has a great strategic depth. But I my CPU gets down when there are too many units on screen. And I don't want to buy a new CPU.
Loading C&C 3 demo. Very excited. I hope this runs more stable on my pc. As far as I know you do not command 500 units in this game.

Yep, Grace Park is in it as some GDI woman, Michael Ironside is one of the GDI commanders and James Earl Jones (the voice of Darth Vader) is the GDI top man. Also Sawyer from Lost is one of the NOD people
Edit: And just noticed that Cameron from House is in it too. --------------

Well Ive played both demos now in full settings on my nice rig, they both look very good. While SuCo has alot more in depth strategy, there is a very large part of me that makes me feel warm and fuzzy playing a familiar if updated C&C game, as for EA publishing it at least in the demo there was 'minimal' EA **** there.
Personal preference I'll be buying C&C but thats more for memory's of old then improvements of new

I played the supreem comander demo and found it to be lacking. I couldnt really tell you why, I just felt that it doesnt bring anything new to the RTS series.
This is the same reason I havent played a C&C game in ages. They have really failed to move the rts style games forward, just the same type of game play with out anything new.
I do have to say that Relic and THQ have been the guys to bring out new things in the RTS style games. First with Homeworld 1&2 and then they topped that with the Dawn of War series. And have finaly apeared to have masterd the RTS series with Company of Heros.
I can say that the one thing Supreem comander has done that others havent is push the scale of the conflick to a global size but out side of that, it felt like old C&C with better graphics and differnt units, but nothing really new to offer. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Central Defiance is always recruiting, check out or movie DEFY |

I have had supCom for a few weeks now and all I can say is fussy. The online play is just going to boil down to 'The rush'. Too much concentration on resource.
C&C 3 looks nice havn't tried it.
Warzone 2100. That was a nice rts. Shame there was no multiplay.

CnC 3 looks amazing, Id buy the game for the storyline and campaign.
But Supreme commanders reignes... supreme. It totally pwns CnC on the strategy side. Ive played it for a couple days now, finished all 3 campaigns (ok storyline sucks) And ive enjoyed every single game (including the one were i cheated and nuked my enemys island with 66 nukes)
The CnC skirmish just couldnt entertain me past the pretty graphics tbh :/

Supreme commander is the first strategy game, ever, which forces you to think, instead of build 500 tanks, and rush into the enemy base.
Every single strategy game so far, that I've played, has only been about resource mananagement, and production manangement, with very little of the actual strategy bits. Supreme commander is, truly, in every sense of the word, a strategy game. ------------------------- Sigs are for noobs. |

Not everything, just most of it. EA is quantity over quality, instead of producing a few really good games they produce dozens of really bad ones in the hopes that they get 1 or 2 right. And if they get 1 or 2 right they produce sequel after sequel until they've destroyed any credibility the original had. Plus they treat their employees like tools

SupComm is TA with new features. TA is a strategic strategy game, in which you have to plan around your army, not your individual units. A lot of things are the same between the factions, but there are some distinctions that set them quite apart (Aeon's navy is very strong, UEF's air power is unparalleled, Cybran are stealthy little bastards)
C&C3 is.. well... C&C with new features and spiffy graphics. It's a more tactical game that emphasizes the differences between sides and their individual unit strengths. Properly utilizing a small, mixed squad to crush your enemy who tries to do the same is the key to winning, as opposed to TA's movement of huge groups in formation around the field.
Neither one bring anything new to the RTS genre, that's not the point. The POINT is to take the RTS genre and hone it to a fine edge, taking what we know works and making it work with 125% effectiveness.
Also, C&C can't have aliens. That's not what it's about. -10 points for C&C right there. Nod and GDI for life!

I've had supcom for about a week now and am struggling with it - I just can't handle the enormous amount of micromanagement required :/
The pathfinding is abysmal, formation movement simply doesn't work!
However the command queueing is very good, although the interface is rubbish. Example: you can get a series of transporters to assist factories and automatically ferry newly created units to the frontlines BUT the process for doing this is deeply counter-intuitive and seriously hard to pull off with the poor interface. Who's idea was it to make the ferry route icon pale purple on a slighty paler purple landscape? O_o
And the frustration of spending 10 minutes queueing up a bunch of commands to an engineer team only to accidentally hit the right mouse button instead of the left button at the end and wipe the whole lot? Retarded tbfh.
Great game if you can handle massive micromanagement in combat, ****e interface.
