Actually, that's the high-ball estimate for Jita. And nobody said it was an epic fail. Just that you might have been able to make even more cash by focusing all that effort on something else instead.

I can tell you one thing that there was no plan for crashing the marked, it just happened. I had 1.7 mil ish with my alt that I dropped to 1250, from 1300ish (Fatlity) to get a quick sale since i was out of oxy due to many reason among that is the dotlan killings. And the rest followed to 1100 ish. That was a 1h ago or so.

A couple of things. The 2k+ mark on lasted a cople of hour's then it was a back to 1600 ish. So, that many sold there stuff then, had to be by a failed marked speculation. And the volume that day, cant make that many billions as told here. Oxygen was more of playing bingo, and the profit was just 10-15% higher than the other Isotopes.
The story is that 1600 ish was the sell price on average. But, if you did go in when it was around 500+ before the "Ice war" then you made the real isk... |

Just imagine how much more successful this whole hoarding and collusion scheme would have been if it would have been kept under wraps. Nobody would have suspected a scheme from the high-sec ice ganking alone, that's a pretty common occurrence for reasons beyond market fixing ("delicious carebear tears").
Goons could also have been much more successful by running ice mining operations parallel to the ice interdiction. Not exactly free money, but damn close, and it would have just been icing on the cake. |

But they've already done the first 8, and some of them probably the first 9, so why not go the full distance? Goonswarm (for some reason makes me think of Boone's Farm) is bound to have hundreds of peons running around that they could force into slave labor. All they'd need to do is threaten to ostracize them from the SA community. |

To me it comes off more as the personal prejudices of certain posters leading them to embrace a nirvana fallacy in which any action taken with regards to a market manipulation attempt is not worthwhile because it was not the very best it could have been had it been executed by the ~puppetmasta~ what is the individual voicing the criticism. This is not specific to the Oxygen Interdiction by Goonswarm; rather, it is a recurring theme that I have seen in threads for the entirety of the time that I have been playing this game, which arises whenever someone makes a gesture intended to result in market manipulation or even discusses the topic. Certain forum users, while at the same time perpetuating a mystique that they make their billions or trillions off of similar, but more refined and unspecified, tactics, berate any of the uninitiated who deign to speak on the topic. It is elitism; it is fractious; it is mostly a waste of both parties' times, and those of the readers. And yet we continue to f5 the page, of course all the while pretending that we don't.

1. Hulkageddon will not start until Goons have bought enough Oxygen Isotopes/Blueice (or another resource they can interdict)
2. after Hulkageddon many stocks will be depleted and Goons can start interdiction #2
