Originally by: Mecinia Lua In life perception is everything, it doesn't matter necessarily if the perception is wrong or right, people act upon their perceptions.
That's the way of things.
It does not appear that The Enslaver did anything inappropriate. Indeed when he offered to give up his character they probably should have, or he should have just voluntarily not logged back on as The Enslaver.
The problem stems that t20 did do wrong. Others have worked for CCP that have done wrong. The perception is that you are weak in the enforcement of your company policies.
Why do people have that perception?
T20 was not fired in accordance with Company Policy when his cheating was discovered. Not only that but the items were allowed to remain in game for almost 8 months, despite CCP knowing that they were illicitly spawned. Other cases such items have been removed.
As to why an exception the excuse has been that senior management was not present at the time, they were on vacation. In these modern times it is unreasonable to assume that noone in senior management could not have been contacted at the time of the incident. The world is just to wired.
Therefore the perception is that CCP is lying, that they fully knew that t20 did wrong, that they fully were aware of the items, that they willfully let him get by with it and swept it under the rug in hopes that it would never see the light of day. The perception is that since they did not act in accordance with company policy that they were at least complacent in the actions of t20.
As I said though The Enslaver appears to have done no wrong as far as anyone can determine. However folks are still left with the perceptions of the previous incident. It is sad that he has to give up his characters, but at least in the beginning he realised the potential conflict of interest, it is sad that CCP has not recognized such.
Once formed perceptions are the hardest things to change. Once they become ingrained they become part of habits.
It is one thing to say we have a policy where GM's cannot do for their alliance, corps, friends etc. However the player base cannot be certain of that given the past incidents and the perceptions formed because of its handling.
One thing that might have some effect would be to have all GM's to publicly display the alliance/corp that they are attached to. This would allow without revealing their characters name that to the player base they might favor that entity. This would enable the person petitioning to make sure that an unbiased opinion is examining the situation.
Without some more transparency the perceptions are not going to change.
Another problem is that SirMolle and DBPreacher both engaged in the same dreadful behavior that the devs and community people are now condemning this whistleblower for doing. They posted real life information for someone on these forums, neither received any punishment. They placed his name, place of business, phone number for his workplace, and asked folks to call and ask to have him fired. These are clear cases of extreme harassment that is not suitable in this environment. They should have been banned instantly as has Kugutsumen. They and all accounts that share their same connection just as his was. By not banning them you show the customer that a double standard is being applied. It doesn't matter if they are best friends with Oveur, Kieron or whoever, for the sake of the game and CCP you have to apply rules fairly to all, and the populace has to perceive that you are being unbiased and fair.
Constructive and very well written. I hope CCP reads your post.
