I can run the windows version of the new lanucher installer through the configure->"Make a new shortcut from this virtual drive" . After I point the installer to the right directory, it tells me I don't get to just install a new lanucher I've got to reinstall the whole game.
Anyone know how to do this with out a complete reinstall? |

Remember we have 3 launchers :) the offline, the windows installer and the native linux installer, so info about which one you are using will help.
I had a similar problem when the native launcher was introduced, I didnt want to download the whole game resources all over again since Im on a limited data plan and it would take me a few of those plans to get it running again.
So basically, what our dear CCP Snorlax said to do was to copy the shared cache from that other installation to the new place. The folder to copy wasnt the Shared Cache, but a folder within it. After I executed the launcher I noticed it started downloading stuff so I killed the process and went to examine the new folder structure and thats when I learned the folder I really needed was 'ResFiles' instead of 'SharedCache'. (for clarification, 'ResFiles' is located inside the 'SharedCache' folder on the wine installation).
Once I copied that data, I ran again the native launcher and worked fine after that. For a few patches I have been running both installations (to compare performance and the sort) but with today's patch Im not sure I'll continue doing it.
Hope it helps :)

The linux lanucher doesn't appear to work at all. There's a syntax error when I run the install script.
The SharedCache is under .wine/drive_c/EVE? If so that folder is empty. |

This is starting to look like it wont work at all. I can get neither the linux launcher, nor the new lanucher to work, even on a new install.
Do I just wipe everything and start over? |

Can you post the error you get if you run the installer for the linux launcher. Maybe then we are actually able to help you.

OK, I think that my wine install is just messed up, it's stuck in version 1.5.6 when I've updated to the latest stable development version just today. This is probably just something stupid on my end (I haven't wiped this machine in 5+ years)
After I set up a clean virtual drive using play on linux I did a fresh install from the windows XP version of the luancher and things appear to be working smoothly with no additional effort.
I put a post in for the linux launcher thread with the error code I had gotten out of the terminal while trying to install off the linux launcher. |
