I'm currently training up for a Nighthawk and would be interested in seeing people's thoughts on comparing it with a stock (ie; not CNR) Raven assuming both are fitted with T2 gear.
My impression (and the reason I'm going for the NH) is that it would be safer whilst being a bit slower. My experience of the Raven in L3 missions suggests that on most L4 I'll be rushing to pop the enemy because I know my tank won't last very long. That's exciting but during the week I'd rather have a more relaxed experience even if the Isk comes in more slowly. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Originally by: Ghan Tylous It depends if you want to fit your Raven with faction gear. I run lvl 4 missions in a T2/faction fitted Raven and I don't have to warp out.
I wouldn't currently expect to have to warp out in a T2 fitted Raven but I would expect to be scrabbling around killing stuff as quickly as possible simply to keep my ship alive. It's that kind frenetic 'stress-fest' I want to avoid..during the week at least
Quote: But some say thay even a Drake is better on lvl 4s than a NH. But its up to you if you want tank and lesss gank (NH) or a Raven with T2/faction stuff, that can tank and gank.
Just my opinion.
For the week tank is definitely what I'm after. A corp mate can fly an Absolution and I was amazed at the resistances he was getting and what he could tank. The idea of an NH with in excess of 90% resists is very appealing -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

It's nice to see more comments overnight. The last poster I saw had me wondering if there was any point in training up to Nighthawk. It now looks like most people think it's a definite upgrade and a good move.
The Shield Booster is indeed what I dislike about the Raven. I can also fly a T2 fitted Apoc and it can run its tank (T2 large+T2 med+various hardeners) 23/7 while also firing all its guns. I just don't like activating a module that I know can actually drain all my cap or knowing that sometimes I just won't be able to activate it.
As I understand it I won't have the same issue with an NH, or at least not as bad. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Originally by: drop I have been doing lvl 4 missions ina raven and nighthawk and cerberus I find it best in cerbeus tanks good not as fast killer as raven but I never have to warp out nighthawck is a GOOD tanker but dps is not enough sometimes to finish a kill mission so I do my missions in a cerberus fo solo and in a raven in gang but a raven is better with faction gear
With my skills I think the DPS of the Nighthawk shouldn't be a problem and I'm happy to accept lower returns in exchange for feeling safer and lowering the stress levels a little. I've kind of reached what passes for an end-game in Eve and for me now it's more about making contacts and chatting. I'd like to be able increase my LP and rewards a bit without having to concentrate completely on the mission.
I'll have my Raven if I ever feel the need to storm through L4s or like you help out in a gang. NH is just for relaxed, carefree, low-pay missioning -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Edited by: Andrue on 07/03/2007 08:39:19 Lol, bit of a diversion recently but I've been playing for over three years and I also consider a passive tank to be one where the majority of your defense modules do not require activation. I've not tried setting one up when shield tanking but for armour tanking we're talking EANM=passive; hardener=active.
Passive tanking is usually less effective than active tanking for a given number of modules (but top-skill characters can sometimes mean it's better) but has the advantage of not consuming any cap. This allows you to fit more cap hungry modules that can offset the lower resists. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

Edited by: Andrue on 08/08/2007 21:24:06 Hmmm, been a while since I started this thread.
I'm still using the NH and haven't wanted to go back to my Raven. My fitting is 1xShield Recharger Amp II; 2xLSE II; 1 Guristas Invul; 1 rat specific T2 hardner.
The most trouble I ever have is Recon 1/3 when my shield sometimes drops below 45% if the jamming gets out of hand.
Damage output is fine for most L4s but I did struggle to blow up Rachen on Vengence. Without my drones I'd be stuck on that.
All-in-all I can see no point fitting a booster to a NH. My fitting isn't a true passive tank but it's very low cap. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)
