A single place were everyone gathers to buy and sell stuff to each other? I mean, come on, it's hardly a new concept now is it?

Hubs are the natural product of a centralized market, driven by travel times being too short.
Jita is 'close' since everyone can move on 'warp to zero' so everyone goes to Jita. The fact that it's Jita is merely an co-incidence of having way too many gates in and out - it used to be Yulai, but the the fact that the hub gets so big is a result of fast travel.

Originally by: Ishquar Teh'Sainte they bring their faction drops to jita because
a.) they can buy all stuff they need for their hunting grounds, while selling their own stuff at the same place.
b.) as jita has lots of customers and also a history for faction trades, it's easy to sell quick for reasonable prices instead of waiting for a buyer in one of the off-the-mainroute regions.
maybe there are more reasons .. but those are imho the major ones.
id kinda agree with this.. i mean if i was ona rtting binge to make asmuch monies as possible... id sell my loot asap at the same time tring to buy all my new gear to rat faster so seeing taht everything for sale is in jita with resonable fast sell prices there aswell id take the trip down...
ofc i never go there if possible because i hate the lag but im rpetty sure for those who are in there put up with it

There will always be a market hub somewhere. I think that they may have moved the belts and agents out so that Jita is JUST a market hub.

Not at all. Sunday is effectively the big business day in EVE due to the max PCU and other factors. I've noticed that all my contracted pickups, deliveries, and exchanges eventually end up on Sunday as everyone "comes to town" for the Sunday market before heading back to wherever they live for the game-week. It's actually quite amusing when you think about it. ---- AUS Corp Lead Megalomanic |

As someone said further back up, there is no Jita "problem".
I go the 24 jumps from my home station every so often when I want a spending spree.
I try to avoid peak times, like Sunday evening.
Then I get the hell out of Jita!
I don't get the urge to start mining in Sainsbury's / Wallmart's / Carrefour's / (delete depending on race ) do I?
Your SIG is to big please reduce it to fit these limits
The size limits for signature graphics are as follows: Maximum height: 120 pixels Maximum width: 400 pixels Maximum file size: 24,000 bytes

Solution. Limit the amount of items that can be for sale in a station. This will force people to the systems next door to jita at 1st and then gradually expand outwards from jita as the available "selling slots" fill up.
If there is too much damand for slots simply boost the amount available over time. by this time people will have spread out from jita anyway.

Edited by: Daemon Jax on 06/03/2007 16:24:38 IMO it's kind of like a self-fulfilling prohecy...
People placed sell orders in jita because there happened to be a decent number of people there already doing other stuff.
Those sell orders brought in more people.
New traders continued to be born, and knowing that location is everything, decided to set up shop in Jita, further adding to what is available to buy and also the number of people.
EDIT: There also happens to be a lot of Caldari characters engulfed in PvE content.
Replace Jita with Rens/Amarr/Whatever, and you can explain their existance as well. Is it broken? No. It's just that lag sucks.
I made the above post with the full understanding that I would probably be flamed for my opinions |
