It was beautiful, interesting, and very entertaining.
What else do you want from a movie?
Me and my friend saw it in the IMAX in SF and got the last 2 tickets... had to sit on the stairs but at least they were comfy stairs.

Lmao.
First off I'd admit that my friend and I are losers but...
In the scene where the Persian man is sent to intimidate the Spartans with there numbers and "uberness" we both looked at eachother and laughed and said that the Persians were like carebears how they always say they are gunna get a bunch of uber people and pwn you. Silly Persians and their blobs.

Spartan gatecamps are the bomb.
Xerxes went running home after the naval battle of Salamis and he left Mardonius in charge of the conquered Greek territories. A combined Greek army later defeated Mardonius at the battle of Plataea.
However, most argue that the battle at Salamis would not have happened had not Leonidas and the Spartans held the Persian army at Thermopylae.

I cant wait for this movie to come out in the UK.
I've been following it for months. I absolutely love ancient greek history/mythology (Im actually almost at the end of reading The Iliad currently) but I wont care if its not completely accurate. Thats not why I watch films, I watch them to be entertained not to write an essay on.
From the clips Ive seen Im surprised its a 15 rating. I thought it would be 18.

I'm what you would call a greek freak, I absolutely love the history of Greece and their Mythology.
Having said that, This movie was soo kick ass, maybe not totally accurate to what is known of the battle of Thermopylae, but close enough to get my peen jumping about!
The style of the movie could not have been done any better imo....
The only detail that i didnt like was how they made Xerxes out to be. But if they didnt, the movie wouldnt of had the same feel to it.

Watching this movie was like watching a friend play Dynasty warriors, only it was Greek.
I had heard the book 300 wasn't very accurate to the actual history of the battle, but it seemed pretty close, and it was closer than Troy was to the Illad, not that that says much.
One thing I did notice though, in the movie there is only a few mentions of the Persians being over a million in number. In Histories, by Herodotus, he says how they were several million in number, and iirc, he talks about the 10,000 immortals, and how when one should fall, another soldier instantly enters their rank so that there are always 10,000 of them. The force Leonidas leads is also 6,000 men, however once it is discovered that they have been betrayed by a shepherd, Leonidas and the 300 spartans stay, while the rest of the Greek retreat. The movie shows just the spartans fighting, with the few hundred others staying back, but it was actually the full force that fought until defeat was inevitable.
I just wish I could remember who I let borrow the book from me. Being a History major back in college, I have a few dozen books, however Thucydides book was better as a history book, as he was present in some of the conflicts as an officer for Athens in their war against Sparta. However given that the book literally ends in mid sentence, it's believed he died while writing it.

The original 300 comic took quite a few liberties with the story...but then again, the Greek historians probably did too.
There is some debate over how many Persians were in the army, some estimate nearly 5 million (with support included, actual fighting troops prob 1.5 mill), to a much lower number of less than 500k actual fighting troops. Many speculate that an army that had sailed to Greece could not carry enough food or scrounge enough water to remain an effective fighting force, which is why there is speculation on the far lower numbers.
300 the comic and 300 the movie give very little credit to the Thespians (there were 700 of them) and approx 4,500 other troops that were on the Greek side at the time of the Battle of Thermopylae.
P.S. Edited to add... If the Persians brought 5 million men, they would have crashed the node. ;)

Who says it wasn't happening?
I dunno about you, but those Persians looked pretty lagged while the Spartans used their haxsploitz and cheat battle-specced chars to login and get free shots.
TBH, I think Xerxes petitioned the Spartans, and that's why his men where shown the other trail.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
The movie was quite cool.
I was watching the latest History Channel program yesterday about the 300("Last Stand of the 300") and it was mentioned that the Spartan warriors were classified as heavy infantry and wore lamellar armor. Previous posters mentioned possible breastplates too. Others state that Spartans were light infantry equipped with only shields & helms. I guess what this means is that most scholars would probably agree that history is NOT an exact science.
I suppose the real truth really doesn't matter when you go see this film. This movie is VERY entertaining & is making a ton of money.
I loved it!

Sure. But all here who loved "300" can read Gates of Fire which is a very realistic describing of what was Λακεδαίμων/Σπάρτη. This novel is a perfect way to understand what was en jeu in the Battle of Thermopylae.
