Yada yada, I know im gonna get flamed, but here it goes anyway.
As you may know im in Privateers, (zomg you gank haulers and dont deserve loot), but loot stealing is a serious problem. We got into two nice mediumg sized engagements today, gf, and after each fight, we saw numerious wrecks being pillaged by noobs.
Worst of all, they don't even get flagged to us. Which basically means, fighting in empire literally sucks
There needs to be a solution for this soon. It's VERY annoying and im sure alot of people will agree.

Ohh man, this post has made me re-evaluate my life, I think i'm going to go join a 0.0 alliance so I can be another 'bee' in the ol' blob. Who needs fights? When I can listen to an idiot on TS scream at me about how our 450 man gang must go an defeat the enemies 500 man gang. Must be careful though! Because at any moment you can be DD'd in a moment of lag, with absolutly no way to defend your self!
It's like fun, without the fun.

You wanna pick fights with people along a public highway, don't complain when someone else flies up and jacks their loot. ;p
I've actually made quite a few isk in this manner. Named MWDs, T2 drones, you name it. Loot, dock, wait 15 minutes while fiendishly cackling. Was actually Privateer loot a time or two, if I recall correctly.
Wait, wait, is someone from Privateers actually complaining about use of a valid game mechanic in an unfavorable fashion? Space calling the kettle black...

I say pillage away. As the wreck isn't yours anyway it's the property of the person you killed.

Kill rights are screwy in empire anyway.
Anyone considered to be invovled in combat in empire should be open to shoostings by anyone else involved in that combat.
Kill rights should propogate across the various gangs invovled.
Stealing from a wreck should mark you as a combatant, so anyone else involved in the shoostings can shoost you.
Basically, anyone who intentionally interacts with the combat in any way should have 0.0 mode switched on WRT/the other involved people.
That would be Win. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

A wreck is post combat. But i do agree with making any wrecks the property of the person who laid the last blow and the poor sod that bought it.

"Pillaging" the loot from the wreck is indeed a form of salvage in its ancient and generic sense. Salvagers traditionally haven't worried too much about who might claim ownership of a thing; if they find something adrift, they take it home.
Plus, in this game, it's a LOT of fun.
Having been an aggressive salvager since the days when missioners left canstellations at all the stargates, I don't see this as a problem of any kind.

A wreck isn't post combat if you steal from it while the blasterthron that *made* it is still sitting next to it
But seriously, something like, you steal from the wreck and the owner and the guy who kill the owner and their respective gangs can shoot you, and if they do so you and your entire gang can shoot them and the appropriate gang.
Kill rights probably shouldn't go past the system however, otherwise you'll be able to hide a gang out of sight and then get them to agro an Ibis and then jump in and kill them.

With the new wreck system, the person who dies owns the wreck. So basically the person who steals the loot, the pod can shoot them for 15 minutes which is very useful Join "Turby" channel ingame and bring pie - Karass Sayfo |

i went through i little of my time in game looting these wrecks in a destroyer with salvagers.
but unfortunately privateers got wise to this and would target and shoot the wrecks so noone got it. |

The 'fair' option would be for both the alliance whos kills the ship, and the alliance whos ship it was to be able to take from the can without being flagged.

I like Crumplecorns solution where it affect all gangs involved including the looters gang, limits the ability of the others to ambush you with a superior force and grief, and can lead to some nice fights

while i fully support the privateers, Crying because someone beats you to the loot in empire is a tad ironic, if you dont want people scooping your loot then dont fight where its busy, simple as.

So...People are trying to take from you what you have rightfully stolen.
Maybe you should arrange a mental contest (you know, goblets, poison, that sort of thing) to conclude such matters.

If someone shoots you IRL, they don't get all your assets. Therefore they do not gain any more claim to the wrecks than the guy sat next to you.
It's fair game, you shoot outside a densely populated station, you should expect this.
