fact is, and they say it often as well so thats how you know its overpowered, you cant do anything about it. nada. zilch.
if youre in a freighter, youre dead. they can bump you, come with 10 catalysts, suicide gank and fail, wait out the 15 minute timer, come back, hit you again and again and again.
there is absolutely zero you can do about it.
i could care less. im not a freighter pilot. but that doesnt mean i dont have eyes. Sure the risk of being ganked in anything is always a constant threat. If someone wants you dead, can field enough alpha, and pull it,off then they have every right to that option. Ganking doesnt need to be driven by direct profit, but is simply another activity that the sandbox provides us.
Suicide ganking definitely has its strengths, but also has its counters the biggest of which is proper scouting / intel gathering, balancing your risk vs reward between cargo, fitting, and ship-type, using a webber, and having proper support when moving cargo in a capital ship (freighter). So the biggest issue with all of this is that it takes additional effort, time, and resources which is something that gankers also have to take into consideration and utilize in order to perform proper ganks. Example: a ganker without a scout and proper warp-in has a good chance of messing up some ganks... Just like a freighter pilot without a webber has a good chance of being bumped.
Ganking isnt broken, unfair, and/or griefing and is a part of the sandbox. So make smart decisions and put forth proper efforts to minimize your risk while undocked. If anything people need to complain about things like bypassing crimewatch by scooping wreck contents into the fleet hangar of a DST. Sure bumping is a controversial and touchy issue, but just like the points mentioned above... If you arent bad and put forth effort into your activities then you will see that flying around isnt as daunting as people make it out to be.
Ganking and gankers arent the boogieman. There are clear mechanics that make it possible to both gank and stop a gank. Take the time to educate yourself instead of pointing fingers and crying about how gankers out forth more effort and are rewarded with kills, loot, and tears.

If suicide ganking is perfectly fine in the eyes of CCP's rules and considered emergent gameplay, then baiting newbies in the newbie sectors and blowing them out of the sky should also be considered emergent gameplay and be fine.

I guess its time to get my gank on :D #1 - That is why there are also rules that explicitly state that rookie systems are protected areas and killing new players with any mechanic is punishable there if it isn't 100% consentual *on the new player's side*.
#2 - People already hang out and harvest rookies for kills. CCP has cracked down a couple of times - but every time their support staff gets overloaded and stops banning the idiots doing it they move back in to farm more easy kills... But sure, if you go suicide gank there it might wake them up long enough to ban you for a while.
The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool.
They lay. They rotted. They turned
Around occasionally.
Bits of flesh dropped off them from
Time to time.
And sank into the pool's mire.
They also smelt a great deal.

EvE is hard. It's harder if you're stupid.
I couldn't have said it better.

The phrase you're looking for is marginalized loss. if the gank fails then the ships are lost with no gain. That's kind of risk in a sort of, I don't know, INTRINSIC fashion. Yes, the ships are ALWAYS lost, so many people consider this a risk free operation, but that's patently untrue. The forums are rife with stories of failed ganks, and there are various entities out there who take great pride in their ability to not die at the hands of the ne'er do wells. The price is paid in advance, but the return is not guaranteed.
Just because the majority of pilots who suffer from these events are either not paying attention, are stupid, or both does not mean that the process is free of risk of failure and loss of assets without anything to show for it.
Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.
