An EVE FPS could be incredible if done right.
I never played DUST 514 (not a console gamer) so I don't really know 100% how the mechanics of the game worked, but I play Natural Selection 2 now and then and that is a gameplay style that I think people with the stamina to play EVE would sink time into. A game where teamwork is vital and the flow is fluid. With that I will leave my ideal version of an FPS set in the EVE universe:
The game would take place over two ships in orbit of a planet / asteroid belt / etc. They would be engaged in a fleet battle, so when you are looking outside you can see frigates zooming about attacking each other, Hurricanes off in the distance firing artillery shells over long distances etc. Drones whizzing past. Each team would start on their ship. Map size would be dependent on hull size of the ships (smallest being cruisers, largest up to Dreadnaughts and maybe even Titans).
The overall aim would be to use shuttles to launch over to the enemy ship, assault sub-systems and ultimately lower its defenses so that your ship can destroy it. Hell, you could even take a page out of SW: Battlefront and have the ability to board frigates to dogfight and blow up defense turrets on the enemy ship. All the while ensuring you are also defending your own sub-systems from enemy attack.
You could also have your planet-side maps and even station-based maps. There's so much that could be done with an EVE FPS. I would strongly recommend some of the devs to jump on and have a few NS2 matches and take notes that an FPS doesn't need to be a generic blapfest and can actually manifest itself as a highly tactics / teamwork oriented gem. They'd be on the money too seeing as NS2 has been around for a while now and we could use a fresh new suit. |

And here we can observe a nice exemplar of modern gaming thriving in its natural habitat: the hypetrain.

At no point was I claiming to? I merely stated that such a gameplay style would be my ideal version of an EVE FPS. |

This insults the devs and permanently damages the brains of all sensible people everywhere, decreasing the sum total of human achievement and casting a confounding shadow over any possible future for anything, anywhere.

OP mentioned two other games that an eve FPS could be modelled on (inb4 slimy semantics wrestle about the word 'modelled') then suggested the devs play another game and take notes. All after admitting having never played DUST. That's a dearth of ideas. For your post not to be meaningless i would have to be called upon to come up with ideas to point this out, but i'm not. Apology and total failure accepted in advance, have a good one.

At no point was I claiming to? I merely stated that such a gameplay style would be my ideal version of an EVE FPS. I'm sorry, but this is incorrect. As weird as it seems, there's historical evidence that what people want from a game isn't necessarily good for the game, nor necessarily what people actually want. This is a consequence of being a passenger of the hype train.
Besides, there a lot of other factors to be considered. It would be your ideal fps NOW, for example ... but in a few months there will be a new hypetrain coming that you will jump onto, which will make you find new things you will claim to be ideal.
The hypetrain phenomenon is common amongst modern gamers and unless they grow awareness about it ... ... it will always end in disappointment in the short term ... ... and bitterness in the long term.
And please don't use the toilet while we're in the station.
Thank you.

Will YOU be worthy of Project NOVA?

Will Project Nova have much to do with EVE? I doubt it, at least initially.

I am really hoping for the best when it comes to Project Nova as I dipped my feet into Dust 514 and remember having a decent time. |

Isn't that the basis of a forum? For people to express ideas and communicate thoughts to be subject to others feedback?
I must have missed the part where forums turned into peer reviewed journals where every post has to be backed up by prior research. |
