1) From early reports, I gather that reaching the level cap in SWOTR takes less than a month. We'll see what happens after that.
2) I strongly suspect that Skyrim is having/will have a greater effect on player ability

SWOTR was very boring. Once the novelty of it wore off (a week tops) you see it is just KOTOR with multiplayer mode turned on permanently.

I have seen 38 already, and its only been 1 day since release + 6 days earlier access slowly rolling people in if you preordered. Yeah, seen 2 hour que lines on "unofficial" Aussie servers (stupid down unders GTFO of my west coast US servers, go back to throwing more shrimp on the barbie what ever the heck that means!). Old Georgie lucas is just rolling in cash now, even got the old SWG shut down 2 weeks before his new pet game was released (pretty sure Mr. Lucas has the patents/rights/what ever to ANYTHING related to star wars in a vise like grip on the balls to squeeze them until they go blue to make cash off it ). |

Eve is a niche product which is not that much in competition with ego view mmo games. there are other games which do have more problems with "swotr".
what i do observe is the age of mmo market in general is declining. this is more because of the repetitive concept, "the not that cooperative community " and the "1 out of million heros (not being special)". Games like Skyrim, diablo are a much bigger danger to mmo games than most people would like to admit. |

I'm calling it StarWOW. People are going inactive to try it out. if they really like Eve, they'll find this to be too much like every other MMO and once they're done playing with lightsabers and space combat on rails, they'll be back in here. You might lose a couple, but I'm pretty sure the people StarWOW appeals to aren't going to play Eve a lot anyway.

It's not going to kill EVE, since it's a totally different type of a game. Any serious threat it poses is against other ground based theme park MMOs. There is also a honeymoon period with all new games, so it'll take a few months before you can say anything concrete about what long term affects SWTOR will have on the population numbers.
PS. I'm not logging on to EVE either, but that's because of skyrim and christmas(relatives visiting and visiting relatives). |

Some healthy competition in the "Space MMOG" area is a positive thing, even if it is transitory.
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'no.' |

I was able to play some of starwars during the beta. It really is a star wara wow. You quest the samelevel up similarly, and well, I thought if I wanted that style of game, I would go back to everquest and my druid.
It lacks the space combat where eve shines. It also lacks the indy aspect that I have grown to love in eve.
So no, it won't kill eve. It may pull people away for a bit, but death.... Not unless they create a very good space combat system back with a good indy setup. |

Early reports indicate that "Going To Sleep at Night" is stealing players from EVE Online.
Is this the beginning of a steady decline which will leave EVE a barren ghost down? Current trends indicate that EVE will have 10000 concurrent players by tomorrow, 0 the day after that, and -10000 the day after.
However, experts contend that "Going To Sleep at Night" is a transitory phase which will see the return of players within 6-8 hours. Furthermore, this new product has seen less favour in other parts of the world, such as China, Russia and Australia, where "Going to Sleep During the Day" is having a far greater effect on EVE's concurrent player count.
More on this story, tomorrow morning. [img]http://desusig.crumplecorn.com/sig.php?r=*rnd*[/img] Desusigs can be seen on the terribad new forums using bbcode enabling script (scroll down to my post for sig rotation) |

Games like Skyrim, Diablo etc may indeed be a danger to MMOs....for a couple of months until you've completed the game.
How many people do you think will be playing Skyrim for as many years as they've maintained their EVE characters?

I have played SWTOR yesterday for a couple of hours and I have played EVE on and off for about 7 years now. I can savely say that I will be continuing to play EVE on and off for another 7 years, but I will not continu SWTOR for that long.
SWTOR is totally different and absolutely not comparable to EVE. SWTOR looks more like Tabula Rasa and WoW mixed together. EVE misses stuff that SWTOR has and SWTOR misses stuff that EVE has.
Will it be the dead of EVE? No. Will it be a nice change of settings when you are burned out with EVE? Yes.

I doubt SWTOR will affect Eve. Once you tasted the emergence of a sandbox MMO, the experience you get out of a very linear themepark MMO is lackluster to say the least.
Take Eve's sandbox and put a StarWars skin onto it and I'm in. Take WoW and put a StarWars skin onto it and I'm out.
Been there done that, now I'm looking for more. |

Skyrim is clearly the larger (temporary) threat to EVE. I play it, some devs play it, even the boss of Goonswarm does.
That said, at least one of my corp is inactive at EVE because of SWTOR.
It only becomes dangerous when games as good and friggin big as Skyrim start appearing regularly every few months... which is not going to happen. |

SWTOR is just another refreshing break, one you play two months then quitGǪ |

What, a game that is totally different from EVE in almost every single way apart from the fact it is a) online and b) multiplayer. You may have well said "My corp left to play football in the park". |
