I wonder what would I'd get agility & speed wise by fitting: 2x nano, 2x istab, 3x overdrive on domi / phoon.
It's hard to measure agility but it can be compared to bc, cruiser... -------- ..... |

So, the whines about the FOTM had an effect ... now, what's left to nerf/whine about ?
Still, it's better than a nerf to the MWDs ...

We will have to see how this develops, but those changes actually look rather promising. All the mods are useful and now grant the benifits you'd expect from their descriptions.

It's hard to measure agility but it can be compared to bc, cruiser...
It's actually pretty easy to measure. Agility is what determines how fast you can accellerate from 0 to 100%. Measure the time for that (or that from 0-90 or 0-95% for a quicker test) and compare vs other targets.
It can be also calculated. You'll need the shipclass agility mod for that, which is not visible in eve. But it's visible in Battleclinics item database and the numbers for it seem to be still correct. At least they correlate almost exactly with those I get from tests on sisi.
The agility of a ship is it's agility mod * base inertia (same number as it's mass in mt) * inertia reductions, with low = good. Don't ask me what the number is for though.
So...right now a domi with 5 t2 nanos and 2 lh/t2 instabs and no skills has an agility of 3.86 and a base speed of 270.
On TQ with the 2x nano, 2x istab, 3x overdrive setup this is an agility of 8.37 and a base speed of 188.
Max MWD speed depends on the MWD used and skills, but with the stackng penality on vents and the lower -mass bonus the MWD effeciency boost should be about 88% of what it is now. Combined with the lower base speed I would guesstimate that MWD speed will be around 60% of what it is now. In addition with having an over twice as bad agility.
Regarding the agility number, to compare (without skills or modules):
Tristan: 3.875 Thorax: 6.6 Harbinger: 11.66 Domi: 16.275
TQ-nanodomi: 3.86 SISI-nanodomi: 8.37

Crap, I didn't think about my salvage BC. I'd be happy to trade armor and/or structure for speeeeeeeeed. Crap even turn radius. My only interest in speed is straight line velocity. ZOOM ZOOM! If mass affected top end velocity for non-mwd and aburn speed you'd see every non-essential piece of ship torn off my impel. I'd make minnie ships look luxurious and complete. |

Edited by: Amy Wang on 15/03/2007 22:32:20 Well, it cerainly fixes the nano bs problem to a certain degree. Extreme speed are still possible with snake sets but take longer to accellerate to and longer to turn, which is a good thing.
What I especially like is the new % based speed boost instead of the fixed m/s amount.
The problem is that intys, dictors and light cruisers like the stabber and vagabond are nerfed as well and that should be looked into.
(And before you begin flaming, the vagabond is the only minmatar ship that can do something best in comparison to other ships of its class and that is being fast and nimble while still being a cruiser. Having neither good damage nor good tank in coparison to most other hacs leaves only speed and agility and that should remain so.)
On the plus side, the phoon now stops being the one-trick-wtfbbq-pony and might mean it can be looked into and adjusted to be more in line with other bs (e.g. powergrid boost).
PS: I just realized this also fixes amarr as they can fit overdrives to their hearts content because they arent concerned by cargo space for ammo, so we can assume amarr is fixed now as well

Amarr don't fit overdrives :p
Problem with amarr is that half of all their bonuses are for cap use on their lasers. All laser cap use should be cut in half and the ships should be given new bonuses ------

Switch it to a nano, will probably work quite OK. Mass reduction = agility bonus, and MWD speed bonus. Keep in mind that this nerf hits big ships harder than small ones.

Nope.
a 20% speed boost instead of a flat +36 means a Crow (example) will actually have about 100 MORE base speed than it has now when fitted for speed which after getting multiplied about 300 times by everything else that affects speed turns into about 2000 extra topspeed.
This at the cost of agility and inertia compared to it today, but that's only fair. I'd go as far to say that +20% on overdrives is actually a bit too much, but I need to fit and fly some ships on Sisi to draw conclusions.

Anyone work out how fast a 9.5k Vaga/phoon will go after these changes? Assuming highgrade snakes.

So... how does this work with agility skills such as evasive manoeuvring? Quickfit tells me that a ship with agility mod 1.00 and evasive manoeuvring IV will have an agility mod of 1.2. But that would mean that the overall agility, by agility mod * base inertia * inertia reductions, ends up being higher (ie, worse) than without evasive manoeuvring IV. Which obviously can't be right... |

^^ that sums up the most important change in this.
The other one is the change on overdrives, from flat ammount to percent. This means: battleships get pretty much the same result to max speed as now. interceptors get a much bigger boost to max speed from these changes. So it will still be possible to reach extreme speeds with small ships, they will just be a bit more sluggish than now. A ceptor may actually be able reach higher speeds than they do on TQ atm.

Theoraticly yes, Vaga/Phoon CAN do same speed but at the huge expense of cargo space & structure HP, assuming they'll use overdrive injector to boost speed and nanos to decrease mass. But, these modules don't decrease inertias, so they won't be able to make sharp turns, so a phoon chasing an inty won't be probable unless inty is flying linear. To protect their speed vaga/phoon will need to use istabs. So a mixture of 3 modules will be required to reach current mass/inertia/speed values. Still a phoon will need many nanos to decrease it's huge mass to get full potential from MWD, many istabs to reduce the inertia, and at least 2 ovedrive injectors at the cost of 40% cargo space and +40% hull points.
That's a Templar, an Amarr fighter. It is a combat drone used by carriers. |
