UPDATE (I will copy and paste from another topic)
CCP Navigator wrote:If you did not claim your gift you can submit a petition and the GM's will look at each petition on a case by case basis. This is not a promise that you will get a gift but it never hurts to ask. Customer support will NOT be changing gifts at this stage. If you picked one thing and want to change it to something else then that is, unfortunately, not possible.
He then indicated in yet another topic that it needs to be petitioned under billing and its subsection reactivation offers. |

Poor communication from CCP is the problem. CCP posted a devblog titled the genolution ca-2 implant is yours to redeem. They also gave us 2 implants which were redeemable in-game - which is how gifts were given out in the past. They didn't advertise the fact that this year they were doing something EXTRA and DIFFERENT (which needed you to visit your Account Management). You have to look for this paragraph in the above blog ( supposedly about the CA-2 implant) to get that info: "As an added bonus, we will also be unveiling the 2011 Holiday Gift during the same period. This will work just a bit differently than prior holiday gifts. There will be a list of items in your Account Management queue. You can choose one, and only one, gift from the list. That gift will then be made available in the redemption system on Dec 22nd."Q: Should players read all the devblogs and keep up to date? A: Ideally, yes, of course, but in reality people are busy in RL and some will inevitably get missed/overlooked. Q: Was CCP as clear as they could've been about these additional, special "Holiday Gifts"? A: No - They at least deserved their own, separate devblog. Also, when players redeemed the implants in-game it would have been helpful to provide them with a message (popup/evemail) reminding them about the other gifts. Q: Was there any reason to expire these gifts BEFORE Xmas?A: None that I can see and no explanation for doing this was given. Everyone knows that players logon much more over the xmas break so why not give people at least until New Year's EvE (pun intended!) as was the case in the past. I think further confusion was caused by the separate gift of the 2 implants (CA-1 and CA-2) which were redeemable in game. Most players would assume that these were the xmas gift, so they'd redeem these but look no further. EDIT: Also, as you can see here the gifting of the Attribute Remap is going real smoothly I bet you wish you'd chosen the destroyer now!
See the problemn here is not that CCP didn't tell you but that you were too lazy to read the entire blog, i bet you're one of those people that miss the small print in offers aswell ;) |

Using the account management screen is lame.
The holiday gifts are lame.
Eve is lame.
I knew about the ass backwards gift retrieval method, but couldn't be bothered after hearing that there was nothing of worth to redeem.
I'm about as choked up about this as the "free" ships they gave us that I can't remember anything about. |

That being said, everything EVE related runs off the same clock. It's on every post, on the in game clock... pretty much everywhere.
I'm having a little trouble being sympathetic.
If they go to the trouble of giving you a selection of gifts to choose from, the least you could do it pick it up before the deadline. Perhaps it's not on every post? Quote:So, to be 100% clear, you can get your CA-2 only between Dec 12th and Dec 21st. You can select your Holiday Gift during the same time. From where I am sitting it's still the 21st, yet I cant get my gift? Where did they say UTC? Also, why did I only see, and am continuing to see the reminder in the launcher AFTER the 'offer' had expired? It's still the 21st..... where's my gift??

You'll only be hurting these people by giving them an extension, they need to learn to PAY ATTENTION and not make silly assumptions like that everyone should use only the timezone they live in as a reference, when EVERYTHING eve related has ALWAYS been UTC.
Please, teach them a valuable life lesson about not being so extrememly dumb and relying on someone to turn back the clock so they can clean up. It will only be to their ultimate benefit, both in eve and in real life. This isn't some school or life lesson this is a product that we pay for. Also the reason some of us have not "paid attention" as in looking at every detail of articles to see something as obscure as needing to use the account management is because we have been BUSY as hell during the holidays. A thing called a job and responsibilities. During this time we have kept our accounts active and paid and training but have not had time to watch every detail. Hurting us? What hurt us was having a VERY short in game notice that didn't involve clicking on news links. That is reason enough to grant a short extension and give a better notice in my opinion. Also how does us getting an extension affect you? It does not at all so your involvement in this topic is not wanted.
EVE is all about "lessons", and you paid nothing for this free gift.
Another lesson you will eventually learn, aquiring skills as quickly as possible is far, far less important than enjoying yourself... and using your brain instead is far more effective at earning income. Revenge should not stop at the ship!

Anyone who left it 'til 23:59 their local time is a freaking idiot, EVE announcements and events always run on UTC. And the whole "I didnt know what to do so I did nothing" cry-line just reeks of lazy spoon-fed imbecility. How in the hell do some of you survive in the real world? It started with: Eve newsletter #69 30/11/12, e-mailed to all account owners(unless YOU chose not to recieve it) "Players with an active EVE Online subscription are finding a nice surprise in Account Management this week. The holiday gift page has been added, with over a dozen different gifts to choose from. The gift that you select will be stored in our system until December 22nd, when all selected gifts will be distributed to the players after downtime. The holiday gift selection ends December 21st. Be sure to choose your gift before then!" Since then there have been multiple dev blogs, multiple news articles, multiple reminders on the log-in screen. If the info is right in front of your eyes when you enter the game and you fail to read it, thats YOUR problem. All the way through to: Yet another message on the log-in splash leading to an article, on the 19/12/11 http://www.eveonline.com/en/crucible/article/3273/the-genolution-ca-2-implant-and-the-2011-choose-your-gift as a last reminder and in BIG WORDS it says REMINDER: GIFTS MUST BE SELECTED BY DECEMBER 21ST, 2011 All these differengt ways of trying to get the message across - all saying the same thing. Gift selection window is (was) 12th-21st. Items will be available to be redeemed from the 22nd. Select your gift via Account Management. If you've managed to somehow miss all that AND the info being sent to your inbox... congratulations. BIG WORDS.... I TRIED TO GET MINE ON THE 21st BUT COULD NOT! THE FIRST TIME I SAW A REMINDER WAS WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK ON THE 21ST AND THE OFFER HAD ALREADY EXPIRED!!! What dont you understand? And why the **** is a Christmas gift a limited time offer in the first effing place?? Woot for the 10 days fo Christmas
If the offer was over, you saw it on the 22nd in EVE time. You missed it, didin't check your email for a month, refuse the news letter, whatever. Revenge should not stop at the ship!

Yes, reminding people that they were notified of something in several different ways up to a MONTH before the deadline is indicative of personal issues.
The only personal issues I see are people blowing stuff off and then getting upset because they suddenly realize they should have been paying attention.
Fortunately, CCP is holding your hand again. It's unfortunate that most won't appreciate it. Revenge should not stop at the ship!

Quite easily.
Routine action becomes automatic.
Front page plex ads usually get ignored in the 2 seconds it takes to enter password and press enter, then I'm already at entering station before I have time to notice there's some patch notes. Sometimes I can hit the read more before it's disabled otherwise I check it while logging in an alt account.
Last email received was a newsletter on the 3rd.
All could be solved by a blinky eve mail. I mean they sent us an eve mail when they gave us 1000 aurum... |

This TBH. I don't think CCP "gets" Xmas. It's supposed to be about giving - yes - but instead of useful boring stuff how about some useless fun stuff!?
Where are the HIC/DIC SNOWbubble launchers that allow you to drop bubbles in hisec inside which it is snowing?
Where are the Santa NPCs flying through belts in their reindeer pulled sleighs full of (useless) xmas loot?
Where are the xmas tree shaped POS for us to anchor with little angelic looking Hilmars on the top?
Where are the Santa outfits (including fake beards) in the NeX store?
Do we really need more boring useful **** at this time of year? Does EvE have to mirror RL?
Bring back the launchers!!!

I think extended selection time could be nice move.
It is not about that you did not read mails etc...
It is about that gifts should usually make people happy.
Now it seems that there is lot of unhappy people, so whole gift thing did not work out at all. Situation would have been better without gifts at all.

Yet again, CCP gives its users a big middle finger by giving "gifts" and then taking them away if we weren't around when the notice went out, or if their patch installers covered up the ONE-TIME gift announcement. I wasn't even able to click it to find out what it was about, and never saw it again.
Thanks, CCP, for reminding us that you don't really give a damn.

Not that I mind, they inevitably are just garbage. And no-one would release time-dependant information through a channel usually used to funnel unwanted crap, right? Right.
:ccp:
I finally figured out why I didn't see the initial announcement in the newsletter though; it came in 2 days before the "look we're not **** anymore" crucible e-mail that got me to resub. Obviously the gifts are aimed at people who stuck with them after they tried to drive the game into the ground. Which is fair enough really.

Instead of people complaining you might want to go take a look at those presents under your christmas tree....... they might need to be redeemed in the next day or you could lose them.
Christmas presents are better when they are just given to players like they did in the past. Yes I missed all the info that said the presents had to be redeemed in a time period, I guess this is a bit foreign of an idea that presents have a time limit. Really I'm not going to miss the presents cause its the thought that counts and CCP didnt seem to give much thought about making them time limited so the sentiment is kinda crap anyway.
Best christmas presents CCP has given was the snowball launcher & snowballs...... this other stuff is meh. Wait its such a surprise CCP is out of touch both in game and with the spirit of the holiday. |
