Christmas presents are better when they are just given to players like they did in the past. Yes I missed all the info that said the presents had to be redeemed in a time period, I guess this is a bit foreign of an idea that presents have a time limit. Really I'm not going to miss the presents cause its the thought that counts and CCP didnt seem to give much thought about making them time limited so the sentiment is kinda crap anyway.
Best christmas presents CCP has given was the snowball launcher & snowballs...... this other stuff is meh. Wait its such a surprise CCP is out of touch both in game and with the spirit of the holiday.
Well, here's the thing.
CCP was responding to the tremendous amount of feed back they have gotten over the years that people wanted:
1: Items that actually had a practical use. 2: A choice.
This feed back far outweighs the random comment or two being made this time around that a useless collectable ship or an equally useless snowball launcher is preferable.
It would seem they were right no the money with how they handled this. They simply didn't account for the general lack of literacy in the EVE community.
Revenge should not stop at the ship!

Tippia wrote:The whole notion that CCP didn't inform people is just ridiculous GÇö they did, in pretty much every mass venue at their disposal. People just chose not to be informed, and now they're trying to blame their disinterest on CCP. Agreed, even I heard about it despite missing the main announcement. It was the asinine placement of it in the account management section (a section which I have trouble finding I use it so infrequently) and the application of a time limit that I would take issue with if I cared.
I had to look for it too.
I'm pretty sure it was placed there due to the selectable nature of the gift... they had to put it somewhere that forced you to log in on which ever account was going to claim that gift. I don't really see any other way they could have handled it and still been able to associate your choices with the correct accounts.
As far as the timeline goes, I have a feeling it has to do with not having to keep a lot of people working over the holiday weekend handling any issue that might arise. With the 21st being the cut off date, it allowed them a few days to sort out any problems before the holiday itself. I personally can understand that. Revenge should not stop at the ship!

Redeem Items would have been ideal, I think. But, I suspect Redeem Items does not allow for multiple choice redemption and I suspect modifying that code is a bit more work / testing / risk than hacking together something for a website.

seriously, why the hell are we suffering with **** forums because of eve-gate, and the one time eve-gate may be of some practical use to the community they decide to hide it in the account pages that people only go to when there's a problem with their account.
2ndly, fine, the info was on the login screen that is often covered by update boxes or simply overlooked but NO MENTION OF IT ON THE SELECT SCREEN WITH THE REST OF THE NEWS until it's of course too late for the people who missed it.
sure, I'll be the first to yell stupid, but in this case there seems to be an excess of stupid, so that indicates perhaps stupid isn't the only problem The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

A neural remap giving or whatever has absolutely NOTHING to do with you. The amounts of accounts affected is likely less than fifty to a hundred or so in my guess. This isn't a gameplay change it is a request for something and our reasoning behind the request. |

I enjoyed seeing my bonus remap today that I got from paying attention and following the ridiculously clear directions CCP gave me on how to redeem them. Thanks CCP!
Also my whole corp didn't miss this due to the 4 corp mails I sent out telling everyone, and I don't think anyone in my alliance did either, as we all got alliance mails about it too.
Better luck next year. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/39006524/DumbHiseccers.jpg |

I got my gifts because I check the forums. Many people don't.
They just failed to use the one method that every single person actually playing the game would have noticed. Though this wouldn't have caught the eye of people not playing the game, so it's obvious they weren't just gifts but enticements.
I would think you'd be rather well aware of how easy it is to miss things going on in eve. Like the compare tool... |

Instead of chest thumping how about doing something better and relaying the fact that a CCP member recommended a petition under billing for those who did not get the chance to redeem.
My petition is in. I wont get my remap until the GMs have time to go through the mountain of remaps lately yet I am confident they will see the situation for what it is and grant to remap for my accounts as well as others who petitioned. |

It does appear CCP is nicer (No a hell of alot better human beings) compared to many on this forum who feel the need to bring up darwin references and disparage those who dare to request help due to RL situations preventing understanding of the specifics of the event.
For those of you who were NOT able to redeem. Petition under billing and reactivation offers. CCP appears to be willing to help so ignore the legions of forum warriors who want to disparage you. |

I'd be curious to see numbers on how many accounts logged in that didn't redeem this "gift". Given all of CCP's missteps this year with the player base, you'd think they would try a little harder to not give people something to complain about.
Also, login screens are a horrible place to convey information. half the time when I'm logging in, I'm in a hurry to get in on something that's going on and don't have time to stop and read news articles. And again: one-time notifications that can be covered up by patch windows and CAN'T BE CLICKED are beyond stupid. If only there were a system in-game by which CCP could notify us of things. They could make it work like e-mail. Maybe even give it a clever Eve-related name.
I'm not even terribly upset about missing this. The gifts weren't that big a deal and I *could* have paid closer attention. What bothers me is how this reflects on CCPs attitude toward their customers. |

Thanks again CCP! You have saved me from alot of issues with training in the latter part of 2012!
Remember folks if you did not claim your gift. Petition under billing and sub reactivation offers. The team is kindly granting the gift for those of us who were unaware of the need to go into account management or plum forgot to do it.
The way CCP handled this makes me proud to be a CCP customer. And I will try to get that third account going as soon as possible. |

So what I hear you saying is you can't be bothered to read the login screen before you're in-game because you're in a hurry, but you'd read an evemail from CCP once in game? Are you in a hurry to login and read mail, or play the game? This solution to your impatience seems contradictory.
Do you happen to read the Eve newsletter that comes to your regular email? I'm fairly certain it looked like this, with the first story telling you where to look for your gift selection page and when it expires. Or is it just in-game mail you want to read?
And you clearly read the forums and participate here - how did you miss the dozen or so player threads and dev blogs about the topic? I'm sure you can read the forums from in-game... This is my signature.-á There are many others like it, but this one is mine. |

That's BS - if CCP sent you regular eve-mails about promotions and things you need to pay attention to, you'd delete them just as quickly as you delete your Eve newsletter and skip past the login messages.
And the devblogs and forum posts are always there. The problem isn't CCP trying to communicate, its you people not reading what's put in front of you.

Enough with the back and forth idiocy. CCP IS honoring petitions. Those who want to chest thump have nothing to stand on because we don't care. CCP did the right thing and honored petitions.
Again for those who forgot petition under billing and the sub reactivation offers. It will take a bit but the GM was very kind and honored it on both my accounts.
My closing statement on all this is that CCP could have been a bit more on the warning in game. Yet I wont hold it against them. They could have ignored us or used the BS darwin excuses some posters felt the need to use. Instead they took the time to help out those who sadly forgot or were unable to redeem the gifts. For that they have my respect. And my gratitude. |

Well, here's the thing.
Sometimes you shouldn't listen to the players. I could name countless examples but I'll assume you get my drift. Imagine Just imagine if every kid got what they wanted for Xmas!
We pay for content so we should get content. It's called an expansion and we got one.
Gifts are gifts - they aren't supposed to be useful and you aren't supposed to have a choice. It's all about having fun.
The longer an MMO survives the more of a tedious grind it becomes. Things can get pretty boring/serious. It's nice to lighten things up once in a while with something frivolous just to remind us that afterall, it's just a game!
Also, Xmas would've been the best time to launch the NeX store (stocked with a bunch of silly fancy dress outfits).
EDIT: To be fair to CCP (and to not sound too much of a "bah humbug" myself) they realised they had messed up the release of these gifts and have gone to great lengths to keep players happy by making them available over a longer period (via petitions etc.) This is great testament to the enthusiasm and work ethic of the staff who quickly identified the problem, stepped in and sorted it out on a case by case basis - all this over the holiday period.
I take my (proverbial) (santa claus) hat off to them. Good Job folks! |
