I got tired of waiting, so I 'borrowed' CCP's web site template and did the job myself. Enjoy.

Very nice. Maybe CCP should retire their one? To update it now would be duplication of effort. -
If you go into your options menu, there's a difficulty slider. Put that all the way over to the easiest setting and you'll be fine. |

CCP will probably be upset that you are hotlinking their images... but it's a nice bit of work :)
Also I notice that some things (T2 rigs f.e.) are missing the Building Requirements.

There is a saying: 'in for a penny, in for a pound'. I figure they are going to have a fit when they find I've used their page design and embarrassed the hell out of them by updating this faster than they have, so what's a little more trouble?
Besides, if they want me to host the images, they need to produce an up to date file with them all in

lazy i guess its not like updating a damn webpage is difficult, and how much time could it possibly take to add in the few new items added? What, like 8 ships and rigs?

Thanks for reporting the problem. I've taken a look at this. It seems that in the data dump that CCP provided, the t2 rig prints don't have the 'published' flag set. Hence they don't appear and nor do the building requirements associated with them. Even the data I'm using is stale, just not as badly out of date as the alternative...

Good, maybe this will call their attention to the fact that we need an updated IDB, and if they're not going to do it, someone else will use their images so that their own is of equal quality...
So if they want their bandwidth, they'll finish theirs and ask him to take his down.
Excellent work!

As with the official version, I've shown only the items that are available on the market. 'Unlisted' goods don't feature. There are plenty of fan sites around that have object browsers for everything if that's to your taste. One caveat however: I do allow certain meta-types to be reached via the page for their base type, even if they don't have a market group themselves. For example, look at the meta types listed for the 425mm AutoCannon I |

(And yes, I'll use this excuse to plug the item db at http://eve.coldfront.net/db again. It is even more up to date than this one, and includes the T2 rig requirements etc. For example Anti EM Pump II. Faction items as well...)

Well done Mr Rath,
I hope this gives things a prod along as it is not so hard after all. As a game with no manual, I for one, look to the web pages to help understand what is going on. It comes across as rather unprofessional that they are so lacking.
I think CCP should indeed commission you to assist. Why not ? For the price of a subscription it would be a bargain.
I would also like to echo RynasĘ comment about the alliances pages. I remember being excited around September last year when this was brought up to date. It looks ridiculous now, with over half of the top 5 listings looking very out of date.

Now let me check if it is compatible enough to talk with my script (to update one ships.ini file thingy)..

P.S. Don't be too harsh on CCP's update speed. Companies always have limited resources, and database might not have that high priority. It's like comparing Encyclopedias and Wikipedia.

Perhaps, or CCP can see the web site as additional advertisement for its game and provides unsolicited, and more important, uncompensated updated database that is lacking here.

That would be total crap if they did anything like that. You have a member who loves this game so much that he took it upon himself to use his talents and time to helpout the rest of us. This isnt something he is going to make money on and it doesnt hurt CCP in the least. They may be a tad embarrassed by it but I think they should be for letting this drag on for so long.

Looks like the Web Cell of CCP is going to get chewed by the higher ups...
Having new people complain about the item database being old is one thing, having veterans with multiple accounts (and thus pay more) is a serious bit.
Having a player do the job for you... well, if I were their boss, I'd have fired the entire cell. *

Oh dear, I do hope not. I'm sure they work hard. Embarrassing them into giving higher priority to the item database is one thing, getting them into trouble is quite another. What I'd really like to see is the web cell receiving more resources for development and also for supporting community development.
If CCP committed to providing complete and timely copies of the data then they would not need to update the item database pages, they could effectively outsource it to community members like me. Kind of like the ISD but for software rather than in game events. I'm sure the developers of e.g. EVEMon, QuickFit, eveinfo would love to be part of a formally sanctioned and supported group of 3rd party volunteer tool developers for EVE. |

Keep in mind it's based on the 3 month old data drop provided by CCP. Better than the official site, but still not right up to date. If there are specific items you think are incomplete or incorrect please let me know and I'll check if it's down to obsolete data or a bug in my code.

Can you say, "Multiple copyright and trademark infringements, theft of intellectual property, and goodbye to your account(s)"?
That said, while I rarely use the IDB, it's not a bad job. I do like the "I nicked it from CCP" notice in the top of the page, and it's a shame most of the images don't seem to load (for me anyway, dunno about anyone else).
I can well imagine that the reason (or one of them) the IDB didn't get updated sooner was so that they could focus on fixing the bugs all the players ***** and moan about on a daily basis. I've never seen anyone actually complain about the IDB not being updated before.
Of course there's also the fact that the IDB doesn't affect gameplay like a lagged out Jita node or having your dronebay's passengers go on strike just after launch.

Yes I can. I can also say 'World of Warcraft looks like fun, I think I'll subscribe to that instead.' I can't do either whilst keep in straight face though.
Originally by: Helix Fluxx it's a shame most of the images don't seem to load
Most of them should be fine. The ones for new items don't exist, because CCP has not created them yet. If there are others that seem broken, please provide specific examples and I'll look into it.

You have not been reading the right things then. CCP's devs are split into teams, one of which does nothing but web related work. In other words, those people don't have the excuse of spending time fixing bugs in the game. As for subscribers complaining about the IDB not being updated, do a forum search, there are several such posts.

Originally by: Helix Fluxx I can well imagine that the reason (or one of them) the IDB didn't get updated sooner was so that they could focus on fixing the bugs all the players ***** and moan about on a daily basis. I've never seen anyone actually complain about the IDB not being updated before.

The persistent lack of documentation makes it hard to believe that.

Noooo. CCP have thus far very graciously looked the other way. If they do officially notice, then they have to do something about it. Most of the easy options for that would involve making my life miserable. The hard options involve fixing the official version of the site. I guess it all depends how much confidence you have in their decision making ability.

P.S. 1200 visitors in the first 48hrs. Which is about 1000 more than I expected. Thanks for the all the positive feedback, it makes those late night debugging sessions worthwhile. |

I've updated the pages for blueprints that support invention. These now list the invention requirements. For example, the Incursus Will that do?

I second that.
Would like to say thanks once again for the invention tab. Is relly useful when you have alliance members or customer come to you and say "can you, and how much to, invent this" and you can then just work on the fly using this DB and a list of core prices

There are nearly 4 threads in this section about updating the Official EVE Site Item Database. There is still no response from the Powers that be! I'll just have to Bump all of them.
I would suggest that everyone in this thread do the same or start a Forum style pettition and sign it.

You are welcome. Actually dynamic pricing for items is something I've been playing with for a while. After failing to interest CCP in publishing average in-game prices to the itemdatabase on a daily basis (yeah, I'm an optimist ) I've been considering doing it myself using the .xml data feeds from eve-central. Or I could allow users to set their own component prices and use those, but eveinfo.com already has that feature.

Dal. The text in the body of the page is not hyperlinked at all.
IE, click on the Ships link in the left nav bar, all of the ship classes are plain text not links.
Manually typing the ship class into the URL will bring up the races, but none of the races are linked.
Manually typing the race at the end of the URL will bring up a list of ships, but none of them are linked to their pages.

but the images are Click the image, not the text. It's like CCP's site was, not like how it is now. Hence the text is white, not the orange used for links.

Right now I'm using a linux based VPS. The main constraint is RAM. I've opted for a design that makes extensive use of caching in memory and the problem is going to be further exacerbated once I add the personalization features. At some point I'll probably have to upgrade my VPS hosting plan from 512MB to 1GB RAM or look at getting a dedicated server. |
