a kessie can own basically all level 1/2 missions without breaking a sweat. But i am playing gallente atm and they are no where NEAR as easy to play, by the time i am in range of the mob I am taking serious damage and have to warp out after 1 or 2 kills. A Caldari pilot never gets shot at because nothing reaches them alive! argh. Belt rats it is!

Caldari have it very easy indeed. But if you like semi-afk missionrunning (level 3 missions) the Domi rules with just activating tank, getting aggro, setting out drones and come back a few mins later after your drones wiped out all the rats.
The races each have their own strongpoints, since you can train for all 4 without any penalty, I don't see much of a problem with minor imbalances in this or that area.

If you gonna ratt or do missions, Caldari is the best race to play....no doubt at all.
For pvp...its a bit different as the different races has their advantages...
Gallente is a very good race pvp wise... But even here...Caldari has a lot of good stuff for pvp that the other races dont...

Yes, everything is a little easier for caldari pilots, especially PvE.
For gallente and level 1/2, I would use a tristan with 2 rails and 2 standard launchers. Then a domi for level 3 or 4. I have also heard reports of passive tanked myrmidion working very well for level 3 and 4 (autocannons, shield extenders in mid, shield power relays in low, 5 heavy drones).
Personally I did level 1 and 2 in a vaga not long ago, to get enough standings to do level 4. It also worked nice, but slightly overkill

If you are only up for missions, nothing really beats the raven.
But dont even try to bring it to a PvP battlefield. Untill ofcource CCP tunes the ships again, which btw. they like to do at irregular times.

Thanks for the replies :)
I did the mission after 3 emergency warp outs, or as i like to call them 'tactical fly-bys', in my little atron (was my first mission from the agent, had very little cash!) there were missile launching ships and destroyers, but i have a sense of...achievement at least :P

for solo pvp however caldari are subpar.

Sure Caldari have it easy in PvE (at least their ships anyway), but it doesnt mean they're "special".
I'd have said the same for Amarr in both PvE and PvP since someone started namecalling already... *

Fixed it for you.
Also, to the OP: You're comparing apples to oranges. If you want to compare races you can't compare one races best ship to the other races worst. It should be atron/condor kestrel/incursus merlin/tristan. While i agree the kestel is the best mission frigate, it's not by nearly as big a margin if you compare it to an incursus or tristan.

Caldari ships may not be the best at pvp, but abysmal is a bit harsh, it all depends on the fittings and setup, skills etc. Just look at the passively tanked drake, for ability to tank damage BlasterMoa can deal out good damage as well.
For PvE, Caldari do make it easy, but I've used a Maelstrom in lvl 4's, and this has worked out far better than a Raven, and much faster.

These kinda posts are getting to me a bit. All I see when I see one of these "One race is more uber then another" is another person coming over from WoW. The greatest thing about EVE is that you can train ANYTHING you like there are no CLASSES. If you think kestrals WTFPWNBBQ missions and you want to run mission ... Train for a frikkin Kestral ... Its really that simple. If you want PVP ... and think Minmatar are the best at it .. train for Minmatar ... its that Simple! If you really are in love with Missile Launchers - train Caldari ships. If you Love Drones and want to have their Babies FFS ... Train Gallente Ships. In my honest Opinion there is nothing wrong with each of the races - Every single one has something that appeals to someone for some reason. Again the Greatest thing about Eve is that you are never ever ever stuck because of your race choice. Quit moaning about races - do a little research - find something YOU personally like and train for it.
I play a rather Racist game - by choice - By Choice I play Caldari - I like Missiles - BY CHOICE. If I find Caldari are weak in PVP I'll make do the best I can because I refuse to fly Anything other then Caldari - if this means using Caldari strengths in pvp - regardless of whether they can be considered strengths or not then so be it. If I really get fed up with it - screw it .. I'll train something else. Or Start another character and train that a different way. Either way I end up with the same result. I Will have a character doing things I want to do the way I want to do them - Starting again or training another race takes pretty much the same time (initial skill points aside). Everything you do in Eve is by your OWN CHOICE. If you don't like it fine - Train something else. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with race choice.
For all it matters you could be an Amarr flying Caldari Ships cause you like Missiles.

Why were most of your slots empty? You only had 3 launchers ffs.
killmails only show what was destroyed on the ship, i.e. his other 4 launchers were in the wreck in the mission. (same with everything else that wasn't destroyed.

Chill the hell out dude, I partly agree with you. But on the other hand, if a new guy sees caldari pwns in missions, and doesn't know better, he'll think that it unbalances the game. That's why he makes a topic, where we tell him it's not unbalancing, because other races do just fine, and alot better in other gameplay areas, like PvP. If you can't take these topics with people concerned about unbalanced races, and don't want to teach them most of the game is just balanced fine trough constructive arguments, don't even read or reply.

Not sure on what basis you come to this conclusion. Rooks, Scorpians, and even Ravens are always primary in fleet ops surely it makes no sence to take out the worst ships and pilots first. 1 - 1 PVP if the caldari ships are not setup very specifcally then they can be at a disadantage, Fleet ops medium gangs etc i would say they have a very special role to play and often turn Battles if not taken seriously.

thank you. I hate wow and am a veteran guild wars player, i love PvP in pretty much all incarnations. I wasn't *****ing either, just thinking 'wow, this was vastly easier with caldari missile ships'
i have played caldari on another trial, and the condor still owns the atron, it's the range :) but about that PvP thing, i notice when the atron does get up close, it deals a lot of damage with it's little ion blasters and antimatter charge, i get 50, 30, 50, 40, 150 wrecking :O, 70, 20, that kinda thing which is a much higher DPS than a condor would get with two missiles.
anyhow thanks to the replies, now i know that gallente do not in fact suck :D

Or the Rokh which IIRC is the best sniper in the game.
Frankly Caldari probably have the most flexible ship lineup in the game of any of the races. Gunsboats, missile boats, lot of mids for a variety of ewar options.
About their only built in disadvantage is they are the slowest ships (on average) of the four races.

Afaik the Rokh is nothing special as a sniper. Reaches out to max range (250km) no problem, but just can't dish out the damage. Perhaps if ranges over 250km were possible the Rokh would have some advantage.

Caldare are anything but weak in PvP. Rokh is one of the best BS for fleet battles and they got the best EW ships. And try killing a cerberus in your vaga for example
They also got the best stealth bomber by far, and the best interceptor (crow). Killing a raven setup for solo is pretty hard as well, especially if he has T2 cruise or torps.
Still, for PvP I usually fly minmatar or gallente, I find them more fun.

I haven't done the math but I am not sure any single ship could drop a fully tanked Drake running dual reps and appropriate rigs. Pretty much have to run him out of cap boosters then maybe...

Its obvious to anyone with eyes that the caldari race has modules and ships that are generally much easier to use effectively with less SP. Lets start with missiles.
Missiles do not suffer the drawbacks of turrets (tracking, falloff, limited damage type, jamming if FoF's are involved, transversal), and missiles cant get tracking disrupted. You can choose your damage type at will and just press your buttons. As long as your in range they WILL hit (even if its a glancing blow). Superb for ANY kind of PVE. Missiles are by far the superior weapon system against NPC's. Also, missiles are the easiest to specialize in. You dont need to train standard missiles V, S. Missile spec 3, Heavy Missiles V, H. Missile Spec 3, Cruise V, Cruise Spec. 1 to get T2 cruises for example, or Rockets V, Rocket spec 3, assault missiles V, assault spec 3, Torpedo V, Torpedo Spec 1 to get T2 Torps. That is what it would look like if T2 missiles followed turrets. However, missiles are bad at fleet pvp because of their speed and range, while in small gangs they dont do the DPS some of the specialized turrets such as autocannons and blasters do.
So missiles, which are undeniably a caldari weapon system, are the Alpha and the Omega of PVE hands down. No other weapon system comes even close (not even drones since drones are stupid, slower than missiles, and can be destroyed). In PVP they are not a proper choice, but to offset this is how easy they are to specialize in. If you want T2 cruises you train cruise m. V. You dont have to learn any secondary skills to make it work.
Now ships and modules. Caldari ships and their method of defense are once again the alpha and the omega of PVE. You CANT passive armor tank. You NEED 2 Large Armor Reppers to match just 1 XL Shield booster. Shields regenerate, armor doesnt. A person could easily fit a passive tank that would never need a shield booster and could run any lvl 4 without much difficulty while taking little to no cap. You cant do this with armor. Caldari ships have slot layouts that are fully geared towards shield tanking, while they completely support a weapon system that doesnt require cap should you need a booster.
The caldari lineup has at least 1 T1 ship in each class that dominates in one aspect of all 4 races at what it does. Other races dont have that.
Kestrel: Best frigate PVE (rifter is a close second) Caracal: Best cruiser PVE (vexor is second and tied with arbitrator) Drake: Dominant PVE ship of this class and all others below it Raven: Best PVE BS by far Scorpion: Best, and ONLY, T1 ECM ship worth anything. Rokh: Best fleet battleship. Can get T2 rail range with T1 rails. No gunboat can match its reach. Rokh also has a shield tank that can surpass the raven if set right.
Eh Im just sore but in PVE there is ONLY caldari. If you are serious about missions and ratting and complex's and any NPC-related activity you train caldari. There is no other option.
If I had an Alt I would probably post with it... |

Agreed, but I have to add that to specialize in both long and short range missiles you need to train 2 skills (cruise and torpedoes) to 5 while e. g. blasters and rails would only requite one skill (large hybrid).

Think of the alternative and ask if any other race wants their tier 1 battleship turned into an ewar platform. I for one could live without ECM, especially after the recent nerf.

Why is it I see a big, Amarr styled nerf for Caldari pilots in the future? If the forum whining about Caldari is anything to go by ( not pointing at anyone in particular, just an observation).
Folks let me say this: Anyone can train to use Any races ships. If a particular races ships/tactics that you picked is not suiting you, train up and change. Simple. I started as Caldari because their philosophy of hard work and discipline appealed to me but lately I've trained all the other races frigate skill to lvl 3 and I fly the frigates and destroyer of whatever race I feel like using that day. Eventually I will have trained to use all the races battleships so the question of who's race is better will evaporate for me.
Yes, it is possible to fly any race with proper training.

Originally by: Ogul Agreed, but I have to add that to specialize in both long and short range missiles you need to train 2 skills (cruise and torpedoes) to 5 while e. g. blasters and rails would only requite one skill (large hybrid).
This splits out in the T2 arena. Blasters and rails are separate T2 skills (as are all other gunnery). Also, to get Large Blaster Specialization I need Small and Medium Blaster Specialization trained to L4 (not to mention a pile of secondary and tertiary skills trained).
Let's Compare:
Large Blaster Specialization: Motion Prediction - 5 Large Hybrid Turret - 5 Medium Hybrid Turret - 5 Small Hybrid Turret - 5 Gunnery - 5 Medium Blaster Specialization - 4 Small Blaster Specialization - 4
Cruise Missile Specialization: Cruise Missiles - 5 Missile Launcher operation - 5 Heavy Missile - 3 Standard Missile - 3
Maybe I am missing something but that looks a tad lopsided to me.
EDIT: Now lets say I want to use the other large weapon system for that ship. Here was what, in addition (since some skills cross over), needs to be trained:
Large Railgun Specialization: Sharpshooter - 5 Medium Railgun Specialization - 4 Small Railgun Specialization - 4
Torpedo Specialization: Torpedoes - 5

My bad...edited to reflect what is should be but oddly enough changes nothing (reading off skill reqs in game). Heck...Torp Spec only needs Missile Launcher Ops at L1! Almost seems it has to be a mis-print...
