Would it be possible in the next big patch to give the faction battleships a little boost. I 'm not talking about alot, just a little more CPU and Powergrid to bring them in line with the current Tier 3 battleships. Right now the faction battleships and very underpowered compaired to the new tier 3's and a little boost bring them back to their prime which they used to enjoy.
I know many people felt the faction battleships were a little overpowered back in the day before the revelations upgrade but there were meant to be a little bit better than the tech 1 equivalent battleships and therefore cost much more and risking much more when you took it out. -------------------- John MacCoy Arcana Imperii Ltd. Make them more common or a SLIGHT cpu/pg upgrade as they have fitting aids with the extra slots (and they are NOT vastly underpowered to the new teir3s :D).
Or do nothing... God knows theres more pressing problems out there ^^

Erm, the very point of those ships is that they are a different take on Tier 2 Battleships ... Tier 3s are supposed to be better than those.
And can you really say that the CNR is underpowered ?
Unless you're talking about the "pirate" ones, but even then, they are pretty unique with their bonuses, and I don't think they need a boost ...

Execpt that tuxsford said when they announced tier 3 bs that faction ones would be better than them. A slight cpu/grid boost and perhaps 400 calib ponints would be nice.

CPU/PG and even HP can be arguable... but calibration points is really not "faction". Basicaly, Tier3 BS can fit two damage mods and have a grid to fit all (more or less)... come on.

I've been eyeing the Machariel for awhile and noticed that its short the grid to fit 800mm IIs + other goodies. But I think that Nightmare needs to be looked at first, its has puzzlingly little cap.

I agree, for their price, most faction ships give little bang for the boom... I'd rather fly a mael than a mach.

Don't complain.. the effect of that is that faction BS droped in price. What we need is some balancing on the faction BS. Or can you say me that the Fleet Tempest is as good as the Navy Raven?

Cap? I have no problem with cap on mine, it could definately use some more CPU though.

Machariel has PG issues Rattlesnake has PG issues (when fitting rails / blasters) Nightmqare has CPU issues Navy meg / vindi has CPU issues
And the list continues ;P They were never easy to fly but with the new tier-3 BS, they've become somewhat outdated.

they are harder to fit yes. But are not outdated (some of them) the machariel impressive speed still is out of scale for any tier 3.
But some ships as the fleet tempest are crap. (come on CCp.. give it an extra gun!)

The Navy ships sure are outdated, except of course the Navy Raven, but only because Caldari were the only ones whose tier 3 battleship isn't just a bigger, badder, slightly modified version of their tier 2 battleship. Flying amarr myself and I really can't see a reason to fly a Navy Apoc over an Abaddon for missions. I fly a Nightmare because I don't like the looks of the Raven, am skilled in armortanking and missiles are just so convenient for PvE.

My views: Ok: -CNR -Rattlesnake(didn't even think of fitting guns)
Okish: Vindicator Machariel Navy mega all could use more pg, cpu and honestly, real saving grace for both throns is dronebay Navy apoc - useless ship but ... it fits, performs its role, but..
Teh impossible to fit: nightmare <- no more nano, no more nightmare bhaalgorn <- vindicator b4 blaster fix was easier to fit than this
What's ruining these ship's day: 1. abaddon - yes, cap problems, but you don't need dual rep, so no cap problems. Navy apoc obsolete, bhaalgorn not costeffective anymore(rokh is also excellent vamp platform). 2. hp increases... (i could gank hacs b4 they entered warp... ) 3. EW 4. runawayblobmechanics... honestly, I haven't seen gank squads smaller than 15 in last 6 months, preferably all nanoed up and with enough EW/nosf to make CN & blood raiders cry. -------- I tanked D2 capital fleet and all I got was truncated Erebus mail.

I used to have a Bhaalgorn and a Machariel and they were a pain to fit. The Bhaalgorn was completely CPU and PG deficent and we cant really get a good setup up going (still my favourite ship though) and the Mach has some PG problems and I could only really fit 650mm Autos so the damage was lame. Like i said a little powergrid and CPU could go a long way. -------------------- John MacCoy Arcana Imperii Ltd. The Cartel

I think the CNR needs a small CPU and PG boost so it can be the Missile Battleship that can fit a Full T2 Tank and T2 Siege Launchers and Still have room for a BCU or 2. As it stand right now I would much rather fly a Reg Raven into PVP over a CNR, the difference in DPS isn't worth the difference in price.

The CNR is fine, and if you're flying a faction BS most likely you have faction/officer mods on it or cpu/pg isn't an issue at all.
It's the less popular ones that really need some attention including cosmetic changes...why does the nightmare have the caldari AB trails when the sansha one has blue fire? C'mon. I already looked like a mean rusty spiked iron club, green or red flames.

Edited by: Tyler Lowe on 23/03/2007 05:25:46 Maybe it's simply time for the various factions out there to update, rather than boost the existing faction battleships. Navy Rokh, Fleet Maelstrom etc.
The hybrid faction ships are mostly ok, but new variations based on the new hulls of the tier 3 ships could be a fun change to the same old, same old.

Tempest
8 high (6 turret) 5 mid 6 low
Tempest fleet Issue
8 high (6 turret) 6 mid 6 low
+ More Armor/shield/structure than tempest and mach + Extra mid + more sensor strength than mach or tempest
Machariel 8 high (6 turret) 5 mid 7 low
+ awesome tracking bonus + more armor/shield hp + more structure + more cargo than fleet tempy and tempest + more speed + more sensor strength + Fixed 25% rate of fire (ideal for BS 4 players) + extra low slot (tank or damage) - More mass than fleet tempy and tempest
So effectivly if you add a tracking comp to make up for the bonus the mach gets in the spare fleet tempy mid slot, you are still lacking a low slot, speed, cargo, and damage at BS 4, plus more damage if you add a dmg mod to the extra low of the mach
basically the fleet tmepy is pretty pointless and a waste of 500mill currently, an extra turret point however would really give it the edge it needs "minmatar got the shaft again? sure ill bend over right away" |

I feel that faction ships in general aren't splashy enough. It's a fair bit of effort to get even a faction cruiser - they're generally not much better than their basic versions and pale in compairson to T2s or BCs. It's just so rarely worth flying them.

skilling for the pirate faction ships can indeed be a pain - in some cases you skill stuff that's not "you": i wouldnt be surprised if the vindicator was flown by more minnies than gallente however, they get an extra per-level-bonus and a laaarge tank. they are still beyond tier 3. alas, some more so than others; the balance among them could need a review - as could frigs and cruisers. and when do we get faction dessies and BCs ^^ (and i want the new scythe/scimitar model)
