Veterans already have a reward. New players can never catch you up. Not too keen how people that have been here the longest would get something else to show off.

Sorry to be a bit disruptive, but the veteran got already the best stats for their ship due to their superiors skills, they have possibly a good wallet, and only veteran can hope one day to fly the best ships in game. So if that ability is not a reward for your fidelity, I wonder what will be ----

People get a letter from the Queen once they reach 100 years of age so this would make sense in an EVE perspective too. Maybe vets could be given a new faction ship which refines down to nothing so it wouldnt effect the economy, abit like a T-Shirt saying "I made it!".

I kinda like the Morph into Jove idea (or maybe just go to char screen with new options in order to make the char look older). Just the avatar changes ... no stat, or skills or anything. I would be purely cosmetic and make no difference in game except bragging rights. Which is all a vet reward should be.

Consider Ultima Online, which is the only other MMOG I have experience of that gave out Veteran Rewards. Problem is, after 4-5 years they ran out of fun stuff to give users.
It'd kinda be nice to get something for our troubles. Even if it were nearly worthless. Could we get one of these named modules, found in COSMOS?
Of course, CCP did give out Jovian Body Parts, and Snowballs. But nothing regular, and nothing unique (all players at the time got one).
As far as titles go, I'd imagine they will come as part of factional warfare. Elite-style titles for successfully completing Caldari Navy missions for example.

Being an old SWG Player I remember those veteran rewards SOE gave its players. It'd be nice to see CCP offer something latter on in the future. For example we're going to have our own offices to be able to walk in. We need some decorations right?
Either way make any rewards unique and untradeable to other players. As much as I'd like a unique and uncommon ship it'd unbalance gameplay if a server got a wave of these unique ships. So either way I'd recommend if CCP even consider this lets get the walking in station in game first and then look at this subject.

Veteran rewards... no. Just nooooooooo......
The EQ2 veteran reward system is in all SOE MMO games and damn is it ever lame. Getting a reward for having an impact inside the game, or as famous personality is nice enough I gues... But as soon as it's given to one person all other 1000000000000 people also want it. (Yes, that's way more people then there actually are, but some will want it twice, or three times, or more).
Just no. _________ The cluster is full of mysteries, all that is needed is the will to find and unravel them. Time is on our side. |

Originally by: Niccolado Starwalker Else, the reward for veterans lies in the number of SP. Elder player = more skillpoints.
Say that when you have 60M SP and most of it is wasted on skills you haven't used in years because CCP changed something. Not much of a 'reward'.
Originally by: Dee Vour compared with 2 year old players i'm like an insect but the same applies to younger players compared to me.
I am approaching 60M but if someone like you caught me in an interceptor, most of those points won't help me. I could die just as easily as you. That is one of the very principles on which Eve was designed.
Originally by: Harisdrop Its called your employment history. Where everyone can see the life you led.
If you date far enough back, some employment histories are incomplete. Look at mine. You won't see the newbie corp on it because of an old bug that affected it at one point.
Originally by: Harisdrop
Look at sec level and faction standings. These are the rewards we must strive for.
I will very, very soon hit the 60M milestone and my standings aren't as high as some 1 year old players. It means nothing. And sec status easily changes.

Originally by: Chribba CCP, have you ever thought of having some sort of veteran rewards for active pilots?
I saw this thing on EQ2 where veteran players get a special title or equal after a certain amount of time with having an active account.
I thought that was a rather smart way of rewarding players and it doesn't have any significant impact on the game (compared to if you where given some special item).
Or maybe this would be something to add when you roll out that "medals and stuff" thing found on the drawingboard?
You want a reward for having no life because you play EVE 23/7? How about no. And I hope you get hit by a bus for comparing EVE to EQ2, thats just not funny man, not funny at all.

On one level, veterans rewards could be fun, and could give newer players a way to "catch up".
E.g. The first veterans reward in the original EQ was double xp. Doesn't work in eve, but why not double skillpoints for 30minutes every 24 hours? Or even 50% more, something like that.
4th or 5th year, make paintjobs available
They can be silly things, just something to have some fun with.
On the other hand, they can get crazy overpowered if not careful, which is what happened to EQ. But in general, CCP/EVE seem to be more concerned with balance then SOE ever were. /shrug.

City of Heroes has Vet rewards as well based on how long your account has been open. Titles, badges, free respecs, free tailor alterations, costume pieces, pets (soon), special powers, items for your base, etc.
However, none of it affects the actual gameplay, giving you an advantage over another player. -------------------------------------------------- #1. Pillage, THEN burn. #8. Mockery and derision have their place. Usually, it's on the far side of the airlock. |

Vet award? Having vastly superior knowledge, skill points, time to build up your wallet and ship hangers, contacts, friends, tricks, experience, bookmarks, equipment?
I don't see why a medal next to your name indicating you're a vet from 2003 is going to be any different from checking the date you joined your first corp in 2003.
While medals don't really do anything, actual bonuses would further increase the gap between players from 2003 and 2007.

i wouldn't mind a reward for vets, whatever that implys.
in gws we got mini's of the npc's however harmless they are people sell them and make a massive profit. so if possible don't make it too tangeble.
maybe having your name in the char id show up in a diferent color or like others said a medal when those come into play. ------FD------

You have vet awards: Your name and your reputation.
If you can manage to command an audience by simply saying STFU often enough, I'd say you're as high up as you can get. Anyone who needs some piece of **** lame ass named item because they play the game and are good at it must not be that great. Chances are, if you're that great, you've got a hangar full of that crap already.

Look at what I stated up above. You can't see my entire corp history unless I somehow managed to join a player corp without being in the newbie corp first.

Veteran rewards sre s good idea, games like COH/V have them, and they were wildly popular, if relatively insignificant.
Some thing cool, like the ability to color your ship, even if it was jsut client side. Or a special looking Faction Frig or whatnot. Could be anything, and it could scale in 6 month increments.
