CCP, have you ever thought of having some sort of veteran rewards for active pilots?
I saw this thing on EQ2 where veteran players get a special title or equal after a certain amount of time with having an active account.
I thought that was a rather smart way of rewarding players and it doesn't have any significant impact on the game (compared to if you where given some special item).
Or maybe this would be something to add when you roll out that "medals and stuff" thing found on the drawingboard?
Help me help you. |

I always thought some sort of accumulative total would be cool for mission runners (note : not a mission runner), with a title or something when you hit a high level. But I think making it based on play time would probably be better.

Edited by: Niccolado Starwalker on 22/03/2007 10:34:27 As long the reward is insignificant in terms of gameplay I can accept this. Else, the reward for veterans lies in the number of SP. Elder player = more skillpoints. Everything else will imbalance the game.
So im afraid there wont be named "Veldspar" t2 modular mining turrets for you!

It'd have to be something that doesn't give players any real powers, or if they do, then very limited and not worth much.
Veteran rewards in original EverQuest got to the point where they could make or break guild ("corp", whatever) progression, and in some cases had a huge impact on what a group of people were able to do. Had Sony not nerfed them this month, guilds would have reached a point where a certain veteran reward would be required for a person's application to be accepted. That nerf caused a massive uproar that's still going on right now.
Having spent a long time as a top-end logistics leader in that game, I saw their impact first-hand. Sony gave everyone a series of abilities that could be used every so often, with unique effects. One of them, the final reward, was extremely overpowered, but so few people had it that the devs didn't notice until much, much later, and they had to nerf it this month accordingly. Countless people warned the developers about it, but their horrible track record for listening to players meant that they didn't notice until two expansions *after* it started allowing guilds to beat new content pretty much effortlessly. The same problem also occurred with another of the veteran rewards with regards to small-group content, but since it's one of the easier vet rewards to get, Sony ignored trying to balance it under the assumption that everyone has it. That's a terrible way to "balance" content, and will probably need a nerf of its own at some point too, which will cause another uproar since it's been a crutch for years now.
There's a lot of good things CCP could do with veteran rewards, if they're implemented carefully and with the long-term in mind. If they aren't, there's a lot of bad things that could come with them. |

A 10 day old account can have a character 4 years old... so I'd suggest basing it on account age, rather than character age. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Xaroth Brook [Datacore - Quantum Physics] x 40 |

Vet rewards are a bad bad idea!! After playing Star Wars Galaxies for 2 years, the meaning of failure has become very very clear to me... Either the rewards have no effect (causes hardcore players to cry) else they got too much effect (causes new players to cry), EVE is such a great game for rewarding players for what they do, nothing comes free, thats how it should be!

As far as I know we don't have any plans for veteran rewards at the moment though.

When we are talking about veteran player rewards... I'm not THAT old yet...but *points to her 10.00 Corp and faction standings* I'd like a perk for that!

I have hopes this will be considered when ranks and stuff for factional warfare are being entered...but then again...

I'm still waiting for my NPC navy Battleship honour excort when flying through gallente low sec

Uhm ... there's quite a bit more than one capship in Empire highsec space. Chribba's Veldnaught just happens to be the most well-known, as it is the only one I know of that can't reach any other cynoable system, and he mines with it ;)

Its called your employment history. Where everyone can see the life you led.
I say we dont need immature tittles or self titles. Those are only earned for the actions you take ingame.
Look at sec level and faction standings. These are the rewards we must strive for.

i'm only a 6 months old player and i really don't understand the need for public gratification, though i understand the need for recognition by peers.
i totally disagree with the idea of awarding signs of achievements because imho EVE is a world which, just like real life, doesn't pat you on the back when you do good, nor does it produces medals out of thin air for the braves and vertuous.
to get to where you guys are takes a lot of hard work! how many fully fitted boats have you lost? how many set backs? and yet, there you are now years older and still kicking. isn't that testimony enough for how special you are? aren't excellent standings good enough?
compared with 2 year old players i'm like an insect but the same applies to younger players compared to me.
my SP and gear speaks volumes enough as to what i am capable of and for where i stand in the food chain.

Screw skillpoints, that'd only mean caldari goes jove. My 28 charisma ain't helping me there, my 306 days playing EVE on the other hand. King Nooblar le Jove, has a nice ring to it.
