k this thread is not exactly new but i will put a new swing in it ( remove local ) well i have seen arguments for and against but i have never seen any say
just remove the standing lables from local
this way u will see who is there but not there standings to u and then u need to look a the profiles of people in local - most systems will be easy as 5 -10 memebers ect but jita gelfheiven rens etc it might just make people move from these systems due to not being able to tell exactly how many war targets there are in system - also it will make people take note more of caracter names
hows that - problem solved

We have only had the feature for a few months now I prefer it this way, less lag when I open my buddies list.

They added that only a bit ago, and its a damn handy feature. Either remove local completely so people dont know someone is there in the first place, or leave it the way it is with the standings.
All it does is you have to click a char and show info about 100 times to get a proper hostile/friendly ratio, which doesnt have anything to do with "tactics" or whatever, its simply tiering.

Honestly it's all or nothing. Frankly I don't think we have ENOUGH local features.
If you've got 50 people in local and you see a gate activation, it'd be nice to see the tally of hostiles/neutrals/friendlies go up one instead of frantically scrolling trying to remember every name since somebody in your gang didn't speak up about accidentally jumping. But that would call for a bit of a UI change, and hopefully they'll just ditch the local player list all together. If not that at least make it constellation. -----

This is actually a really good idea. The FC already has some broadcast tools built into the gang options. It might be nice to get a "notify" when one of your gang jumps in or out of your system. The more information you can put in the FCs hands the better.

hmmmmm. like a "flash" on the "newcomer" slowly fading out to normal color, so you can see in "new" ppl in one glance :)

hmm i disagree, its the easymode right now u wanna make it the easy^2 mode then? even this would be only useful to systems with low population in it, have u ever thought about sitting in jita with this feature, the traffic will become the more insane there then it is already...

Local channel always seemed 'gamey' to me. Much like in other online games having a name hover above your head. I'd like to see Local be a feature you can turn on or off much like a radio. It would make people have to rely on their directional scanner and you'd have to pay more attention to your overview.
I can't take credit for the quote I saw it on another players sig (I forgot who) but basically it read:
Quote: "Oh look, a covert ops ship just jumped in."
Kind of defeats the point.

In otherwords, the OP wants it super easy for him to just fly around space and gank people with impunity unless extremely unbalanced measures are upkept to defend the system 24/7.
No thanks -- I'm already having enough with the douchebag recon gangs cloaking 24/7 in systems with impunity.

Actually I'd be the one getting 'ganked' more than likely. I never said my suggestion was a good one. :)

I so much prefer the new system. Before I had to make a "buddy" out of all hostiles and set standings personally. I was up to 450 before the change went through, seriously getting out of hand. ***
