I Pvp a lot, in fact its all I do, apart from station spinning when eve bores me. Or getting forum warnings while drunk. That aside...
When we pvp we always use voice comms, Ventrillo and TS are mandatory for any Combat outfit of any note. I put it to you that Vivox or an ingame voice thingy will never be mandatory in the way that Ventrillo is.
As such...totally useless and a waste of resources. Now, if your interested in such matters, try persuade me to the contrary.
Note being able to chat with friends is useless, thats why i have ingame chat channels. This is PVP, fast effective comms.
mehs Im just dissapointed that we have this strange duality going when it seems useless

So no.. I'd not join a Corp which Vivox is mandatory. I'd Ask they why they dont have a TS/Vent, whether they play other games and so on.
Actualy this is a really good point, would you be offended if I brought up this point on my thread with a similar subject ? http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=495488

Yes.
Someone is footing the bill for TS/Vent. Vivox allows for the cost burden of voice ops to be spread across the members at a very low individual cost rate. It also prevents members from leaving the corp and taking the Corp/Alliance voice ops server with them.
I also expect over time to see more and more ingame features linked to the vivox setup.

This is not about cost!
I pay for a Vent server for my old corp and doesnt bother me.
Nor does paying extra for my accounts.
This is about function, use...

not enough settings for inbound or outbound sound levels. too silent without mic boost, witch also boost noise. the delay between pressing the talk button and showing it light up green is a few seconds witch is annoying sound quality is lower and badwitch usage is higher than that of our ventrilo server. if client crashes the vocice chat does too.
crap i would say.

Edited by: Torm Ilmater on 22/03/2007 18:54:49 I'd probably think a bit more about it if I could use the EVE voice client outside of EVE. Otherwise I'd rather just donate that $10 or $15 to my corp so we can have a TS or Vent server that can be used for multiple games or just out of game chat.
ATM is anyone actually even trying the trial? I'm trying it but I can't find another person with it activated to try it out with. It's honestly a little annoying.

The main thing holding me away from Eve Voice is the fact that its integrated. If they added a way for me to be on eve voice and able to chat to my gang/corp while I'm either playing a different game or while the node is down (again), then ill consider trying eve voice.
Edit: Oh and not having to pay $10 for every account i own would be useful too. -----

Hmmm
Well I remember when
MMO's (or even Mechwarrior Series) where young and the idea of making voice comms mandatory was blastfemy. Then there was the battle between Ventrillo and Teamspeak. Some people would not join if you were using a program they did not like.
And the Wheel of Time turns again ôAll credit to Robert Jordan here just in Caseö
Now it is the battle between Ventrillo / Teamspeak and Vivox.
All of these are 3rd party programs. Vivox is integrated into the game but still 3rd party.
Would I pay the extra if required. Most likely. Cause I was one of those people who would front the cash out of my own pocket for a Ventrillo Server that could be controlled and used by the GUILD / CLAN / CORP.
We donÆt pay for upgrades in EVE unlike EVERY OTHER MMO out there that I know of (doesnÆt mean there isnÆt any).
But a $1.00 a month is not really a lot for a fully integrated system.
But to each his own.
Let the Record / 8 track / Cassette / CD / DVD / Blue Ray or 8.25 / 5.25 / 3 + / USB maybe wars continue.

Also, it's implemention is rather poor, at least it was when it was tested in sisi a week ago. For example, the current way how to see who is talking is crappy, especially for larger gangs.

No. And it will never be a requirement to join the Bananas. But then again, logging in is not a requirement to join us.
I tried it out and it did the job. But then again so does Teamspeak and the other one I have installed.
Knowing who to tell to shut the **** up is its best feature. The worst feature is that you lose all communication with someone who has disconnected. --

i would laugh at the person or persons asking me to use it then go looking for another corp.
tbh i want to be able to say "oh eve just died" rather than hearing nothing for 2 minutes then losing everything :)

there are more MMO's out there that dont make you pay for an update then there are that do. Fact is the big games (WoW eq guildwars etc etc) Are games that do make you buy an update box everytime.

Eh, I would, but the vivox software gets blocked by my uni's firewall, which means I can't use it anyway, so a corp that uses vivox for voicecomms isn't a corp I would be able to join
I'm sticking to the vent server which works nicely through the FW. -----

It's simply too early to tell if Vivox will become a useful replacement for TS/Vent. Current bugs need to be squished, and CCP did state that a bunch of features are forthcoming, including the OOG client.
As for choosing a corp, their preferred voip solution would be secondary to a host of other considerations for my choice, regardless of its place in the joining requirements. ...

That's a negative. I played DDO with a integrated voice client. It wasn't mandatory or an extra fee. The problem with that is when the client crashes so does voice. Vent FTW. Gerog |

Edited by: Crumplecorn on 22/03/2007 20:46:52 In it's current state Vivox is not the correct software to use for corp/alliance specific ops.
It is more suited to ad hoc communication between arbitrary people.
Despite what the OP says, however, this does not make it useless. The fact that he does not want to use it for chatting to friends does not mean no-one else does. Really, a lot of heads need to be bumped together in the vivox threads. Hard. Repeatedly. Until they lose enough real life SP that they lose Regurgitating Idiotic Arguments Lv 5.
To answer the question though, it would not stop me from joining as I already have Vivox anyway.
As for whether a corp would make it mandatory, well, if they can't/won't maintain their own Vent/TS server, Vivox is pretty perfect, and within a few weeks a decent number of people will be using it, so quite possibly... -
