I've come up with a fit that pushes it to its limits (literally), and pretty much requires max skills. I'd like it if someone could figure out a lower skill version that doesn't sacrifice too much.
Osmium Fit
[Drake, Level 4] Damage Control II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Power Diagnostic System II
10MN Afterburner II Domination Large Shield Booster Dread Guristas Adaptive Invulnerability Field Shield Boost Amplifier II Large Cap Battery II Imperial Navy Cap Recharger
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Mjolnir Fury Heavy Missile Hostile Target Acquisition I
Medium Ancillary Current Router II Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer II

Well...as is with most ships, it depends what you want to do with it. The Drake is very flexible and versatile.
I use my Drake for engaging Circadian Seekers to get the Sleeper data cores but use a very differnent fit.......but I've learned not to kill too many of them or you risk the drifter BS turning up.
My Seeker killer fit is as follows:
High slots:
6 X Heavy missile launcher II (Scourge Fury Heavy missiles) 1 X Medium Energy Nosferatu II
Medium slots:
1 X 10MN Y-S8 Compact Afterburner 2 X Adaptive Invulnerability field II 1 X Large Field Extender II 1 X EM Ward amplifier II 1 X Thermal Dissipation Amplifier II
Low Slots:
4 X Shield Power Relay II
Rigs:
3 X Medium Core Defence Field Purger I
Drones:
5 X Hobgobilin II
If you engage 5 Seekers with the above fit then your shields will stabilize at about around 55-60%. The fit is not blingy, so no big deal if you lose it if a drifter BS turns up after having pushed it too far. Usually you can kills 2-3 seekers out of a group of 5 before the BS can show, but no guarantees...never know. Personally, I bail after killing two and have grabbed the loot....then go find a different set of seekers.
What I usually do is engage the seekers and then align to next place and just keep moving towards that destination at full basic speed as the seekers will follow you/keep you at 10 km and engage......makes it fast to warp out if the drifter BS arrives.
The above fit has enough passive recharge to render the seekers dps null and void. When you kill, grab loot and kill one more or bail.
This is pretty much all I use my Drake for these days. Although, must mention that the seekers seem more elusive than before and they seem to bail faster than a few months ago.....maybe a CCP tweek

Yeah, depends what you are doing. I guess PvE but what race? It will define your hardeners. Also, don't forget implants for powergrid and CPU.

If you're doing it for the challenge have at it, but it is silly to use a Drake in level 4 missions from an efficiency standpoint, better to just run level 3s, you'll make more isk.
But to answer your question swapping out the battery for the meta version gets you more CPU and Grid and is still the all precious cap stable.

A Drake doesn't do well with any active fit. It will always cap out fast.
Hendrix's fit is more of the standard way to go. You could fit a DC in one of the bottom slots (or not), but Passive Drake is the best Drake.

I agree, a passive Drake is the best route to take.
Rigs 3 x Purgers
Highs 6 x HML II - Scourge Fury
Mids 2 x LSE II 2 x Invul. Fld II 10mn AB II TP II
Lows 3 x BCU II DC II
5 x Hornet II
This has shield self-recharge at 62hp/s. Put two SPR II in the lows, and it soars to 107hp/s.
This fit gives good resists, good shield recharge, and good damage output. It is a tight fit at L5s. If some mods don't fit, go with the named ones.
This fit is also for PVE, and not for PVP.

What do you mean by low skill version? Which tech II module(s) can't you use? |

Aldrex asked, "if someone could figure out a 'lower skilled version' that doesn't sacrifice too much."
So I guess he wanted a fit for someone with low skills.
So, for a "lower skilled version", I asked him if that meant no T2 mods. He may not be able to use, or fit, all T2 mods.

Just some random thoughts.
Arbalest launchers and faction missiles will save cpu & grid. Faction / deadspace AB will save grid. Faction / deadspace BCS will save cpu. Faction / deadspace battery will save cpu & grid.

To start off...use the passive recommendation. It works. And given your active fit lacks any damage application mods/rigs...will be just as slow at killing. Slower than Ion's most likely...they have paint on theirs. Paint a wonderful thing. You can also try MGC to see which you like better.
But...if you must go down this route and it seems you want cap stable...
Replace the domination LSB with a Gist B. You get better cap use and a stronger tank.
This will then enable you to drop the cap battery down to medium battery. This will allow you to pull the ACR rig.
You will need RF battery. Should cover your lack of skills at this time (didn't say what so will assume engineering among the weaker ones) and frees up CPU you will need later.
CPU for the now pulled ACR you will put in a rigor I or II rig ( I don't know your rig skills to offset CPU hit).
Here we get complicated for further changes.
Option 1: Pull the PDU and put in Cap Power Relay II. This will get you cap stable with both LSB and AB running. Be advised CPR's tradeoff is reduced shield boosts. As you are running oversized SB not as massive a hit but know its there.
This can let you pull cap recharger II to put in paint or MGC. And still be cap stable
Option 2 is pull the PDU and keep the cap recharger. Put in a MGE in the lows. Not as good as paint or MGC...but better than you are now.
Since you seem to have the isk for the DG invul, you should have the money for the Gist B and RF med battery. Down grade the DG invul to t2 what I'd do if isk tight. The hp/s of the gist b would cover the increased damage from the lower resists. Pyfa tends to be somewhat accurate for prices most times...your DG Invul is about the price of Gist B and RF medium battery at this time. Well below it actually.
Point is if taking passive boats active you do this to free up slots for damage application. Not running 3 purgers (SOP for passive)...you can fit some rigor(s). And the goal is an application mod or 2.
EFT/pyfa all recommendations as well. We don't know you skills. |

OP wanted downsized, only way to get that really. Other way is is best named gear but that may not work here too well. Like I recommended RF medium cap battery. I needed this when bored and pyfa'd his drake and thought of stuff. Rigor eats up that drakes CPU fast. And well its needed. I remember my passive drake pve days long ago. lower sp, everything grinds.
The fit he is trying I'd swear would be one you''d try on an active rattlesnake. Not sure if op came on this as an accident or is trying to shoehorn a possible rattler fit onto a drake.
Thing is one has the money when for that when time comes to active tank a rattler and want cap. And well it has slots for damage application as well.
Barring that...+100 to passive drake. Sometimes different is good. Passive drake though, yeah step in line with the masses a good thing. |
