incorporating a word in your own language doesn't make the original form wrong. And I as a german have a lot sad stories to tell about foreign words in my native language. There even is a name for an aweful mix of German and English: Denglisch -> Deutsch + English.
Read the links I posted up top of the thread. The question of the latin root is addressed and you, sir, are proven incorrect. Try not to perpetuate false claims under the guise of expertise. It's very misleading.

S&M forum? I thought this was a teen-rated forum.
Semi-seriously:
From Latin bonus, good.
Because Latin has gender, this would mean "a good man (male)". Properly formed, the word should be bonum (neuter gender), meaning "a good thing". This would be parallel to the many other neuter gender words adopted into English, like maximum, minimum, premium, optimum. Its plural would then be bona or Bonii.
(Wikipedia dictionary)
So both boni and bonuses are wrong and so is the singular!

"Mute point" lol, that's good.
The ones that kill me are "loose" for "lose" and "I could care less" when the person actually means the opposite.

Hmm, but isn't bonus just an adjective in Latin? In which case there wouldn't be a "proper" Latin plural for the English noun at all, whatever that means.

Agreed. I always want to smack people whenever they say that. It also makes me cringe when people say "supposably" instead of "supposedly." Happens pretty often, actually. It's quite sad.

English Riddle
Whats wrong with this paragraph...
This is an odd paragraph. It is grammatically sound, and contains no unusual vocabulary. You will not find any hints by looking at word counts or starts to words, though finding out what is so odd about it is not a hard task. I should not say any hints, but will add that not giving up is important. Good luck!

Doesn't have much to do with english, but I find people who call gallente for "gallante" annoying. Both written and spoken. Watch the intro movie when you log in to eve and find out how it is pronounced. ----- sigs are for wussies. |
