I've been working on a spreadsheet for the last month or so, which I've now decided to make public. In short, it should allow you to do the following:
- work out the DPS of your drones, based on your skills and relevant ship bonuses - work out the DPS of your fighters, based on your skills and relevant ship bonuses - see how resistance affects your DPS - work out your drone range based on skills, ship bonuses and modules - calculate your probability of jamming a target with ECM drones given the target sensor strength - work out the speed and optimal range of drones (where applicable) based on your skills
I know there are web pages that offer similar functions, but I also know the value of having your own spreadsheet with such information.
There are certain features that I would like to implement, but that I don't currently have a nice way of doing so, so I'm releasing this as it is and I may update it at a later point in time.
You can download the Drone Calculator from here.
Hope you find it useful.

nice and usefull.
but can you put somewhere the ammount of drones you have? Cause some ships can't fit 5 drones. So it would be nice if its better to have 5 x medium drones or 4 x heavy drones
(ok i could do the math my self)
thx and keep it up!

Nice one.
Question though, I enter carrier (thanatos) 4 and fighters 4, and I get about 108 dps from fighters... is that from each fighter? Because that would mean one carrier can do literally thousands of dps.

Sure, I'll try to implement a nice way of doing that. I left it out initially because the 'simple' way of doing it would just show you the drone damage for 5 of the same drones. I think I can modify it to show how a mix of drones works too, so I'll try to add that.
Originally by: Raekone Question though, I enter carrier (thanatos) 4 and fighters 4, and I get about 108 dps from fighters... is that from each fighter? Because that would mean one carrier can do literally thousands of dps.
Yes that sounds right. You get 80% more damage from the Fighters skill and 20% more damage from the ship skill.

Let me look into this. I need to find out whether there is stacking involved with the computers - if there is, it adds a different set of problems, but I'll see what I can find out.

Ok, I played around with the Drone Navigation Computers and despite the description on the module, the speed increase it gives is actually a percentage value (25% speed increase). However, they're also subject to stacking, which is an issue for me in more than one respect at the moment as regards the spreadsheet. Insofar as figures go, you'll find:
The 1st DNC gives a 25% speed boost. The 2nd DNC gives a 21.728% speed boost. The 3rd DNC gives a 14.265% speed boost. The 4th DNC gives a 7.074% speed boost. The 5th DNC gives a 2.65% speed boost.
Those are worked out using Akita T's stacking formula (since the devs won't make the official one available).
In terms of working out how that affects your drone speed, you would use:
drone speed x 1.25 x 1.21728 x 1.14265 x 1.07074 x 1.0265
I'll keep tinkering with the spreadsheet and see if I come up with a way of implementing such things that makes me happy. In the meantime, the above should help you to work it out the old fashioned way.

Yeah, the extra two computers only just push them above 12 km/sec so you could probably use something else in those slots.

I think you need to set the 10% damage/level value to 0: a max skill Ogre II only reaches 95.04 DPS if it is used on a ship that gives 10% drone damage per level and you have the skill to pilot the ship at level 5 (e.g. Gallente BS 5 and you're piloting a Dominix).
Without ship skills, the Ogre II does 63.36 DPS. Fighters do 100 DPS with max skills, before taking ship bonuses into account.

Nicely done. One comment though. T2 Heavy Drones require Heavy Drone Operation V in order to fly them. Your stats show the DPS for T2 Heavies with <racial> Drone Spec IV regardless of Heavy Drone Operation V.
The Heavy Drone Operation requirement can be easily added to your existing formula using the "+" or command in your IF formula. i.e. =if((B10<4)+($F$6<5),0, ...)

I use the following Drone Calculator to do my calculations but I also use the following figures which have skills maxed out for drone and also has Ammar cruiser 5 to show what an Arbitrator can do damage wise.
Hammerhead ii damage is: 12 Thermal Base damage modifier is 1.92, so: 12*1.92 = 23.04 Drone Interfacing 5 (+100% dmg): 23.04+23.04*1 = 46.08 Amarr cruiser 5 (10% each lvl?): 46.08 + 46.08*0.5 = 69.12 Combat Drone Operations 5 (5% each lvl?): 69.12+69.12*0.25 = 86.4 Racial Drone spec 10% (2% lvl?): 86.4+86.4*0.1= 95.04
for 5 drones, you get each 2 secs 475.2 damage (thermal)
so you get 237.6 damage each second
This is pretty awesome damage and with a decentish armor tank and NOS you can kill certain BCs .But not them all I run is I see certain BCs

The latest version has now been uploaded. It includes drop down boxes so you can select the skill level rather than having to type it in each time (though you can still type it if you prefer), as well as the tracking values for combat drones. I've also added a box so you can see how Omnidirectional Tracking Links will affect your drones' optimal and tracking values.

The latest version has now been uploaded. This allows you to select up to 5 sensor dampening drones and shows how they will affect a target's range and scan resolution, taking into account the stacking penalty.
Took me a little while to get the interface laid out and working right, but it should all be in order.

Hey there -- this was posted from the Drone Guide thread where I noted that the difference between Hammer 2's and regular Hammers appeared to be too small. To recap, here was my original comment:
Quote: For example, given my current (rookie) skills, I got the following DPS/sec with my drones:
Hammerhead 2: 12.3 Ogre 1: 22.7 Warden: 23.2
However, I'm not 100% sure that this is correct, since it shows that Hammer 1s are 11.9, which seems like too small a difference, IMO.
As you requested, here are the skill levels I entered into the ss to get these values:
Drone Interfacing : 4 Gallente Drone Spec: 2 Scout Drone Ops: 5 Heavy Drone Ops: 3 Sentry Drone Interfacing: 2 Combat Drone Ops: 4 Ship Bonus (10%): 3
And I had the following values in the "resistances" column:
EM: 43 Exp: 55 Kin: 40 Therm: 56
This gives me the numbers I stated before. Thanks in advance for sharing any light on this.

Kaylee Kaitlen, I've gone over my figures and you're correct, my spreadsheet was wrong for both T2 light and medium drones (I put in the damage modifier for the T1 variant rather than T2). As such the damage values displayed for T2 light/medium drones were 20% lower than they should have been.
I've corrected it and uploaded the spreadsheet with the right figures now. You should be able to see the real difference between your T1 and T2 Hammerheads.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to wipe some egg off my face...

:) It looks good now, I would like to suggest you add a version number to the sheet now, so people know they need to update to the latest version.
Also I know most people who use this will probably understand but you might want to include a reminder that damage modifier * base damage = theoretical dps, but drone damage over time depends very much on drone travel speed and drone tracking (those wrecking hits rule) and unlike the tech 1 - tech 2 dmg mod bonus (20%) the tracking speed bonus is not constant (for instance for medium drones between 10% en 35%), making it pretty much impossible to really calculate the damage your drones will be doing.
Good stuff tho, thnx for this one
PS: Sorry for not responding sooner, but it felt a bit weird looking at the numbers, and I didn't want to do it in the forums, just forgot to use eve mail etc. All the stuff above does not necessarily reflect my corp, my alliance or even me.. Drone guide.. |

I think, for my own ease, I'll just edit the title to show when the spreadsheet was last updated. I'll also mention somewhere in the original post that it's theoretical DPS lest I get lynched by angry drone users with pitchforks.

Edited by: Kazuo Ishiguro on 12/05/2007 08:43:24 Currently, the spreadsheet is making some rather optimistic predictions - it assumes that every shot from every drone will hit. Even under ideal circumstances, drones sometimes have less than a 100% chance to hit, due to their own orbit speed. Also, sentry drones tend to be particularly feeble against small or fast-moving targets due to their high sig res and poor tracking.
After allowing for chance to hit, there is another formula that gives the correction for hit quality, which decreases in line with chance to hit:
Hit chance: 2^-((transversal/(tracking*range)*sig_res/sig_rad)^2+(MAX(0,range-optimal)/falloff)^2)
Hit quality correction: Expected DPS = Base DPS * (min(ChanceToHit , 1%)*3 + max(0,ChanceToHit - 1%)*(0.99+chance to hit)/2)
The only other suggestion I have at the moment is that for the 'Total Drone DPS' cell, you might consider using the SUMPRODUCT function; it's a lot neater

I've said in the initial post that "DPS values are theoretical - in actual combat situations they will obviously vary depending on factors such as speed and tracking." I think that covers it, for the most part. Trying to accommodate a number of different variables is just going to complicate things.

As I'm leaving the game soon, this is the last version of the spreadsheet that I'm releasing and it incorporates all the features I intended for it to have.
If anyone else would like to adapt and update the spreadsheet in future and make it available for public use, they are free to do so. All I would ask is that you reference the original source and don't try to pass it off as all your own work.

The dream is over people! The great Ebedar has departed our little universe and left us all to twist and writhe in the misery of our own ignorance! Cruel fate has turned its back on us and now all we have left is the icy embrace of the abyss! I can feel my soul falling away piece by piece, but when I scream for help, there is no answer...
In short, like the man said, there won't be any more updates. Now hold up your end of the bargain Eb and heal my rash, it's freaking me out.

As i understand it, Mr Ebedar will be departing soon, but is there any chance he could update the Drone C. abit further? Like maybe adding more color and vibe to it? because it needs to be more eyecandyish when viewing. Thanks for your help Mr Medekka Radaen from Omberneciant Order.

I was looking at drones and Gallentean drone ships, such as the Myrmidon, Ishtar, and the Dominix and I was thinking it would be possible to make the drones effective anti-interceptor weapons. I came across this thread and am happy to see that drones are capable of catching the majority of interceptors used in EVE, I'm very eager to try it out.
A properly set up drone ship can easily set up a long-range anti-interceptor barrier in the least, or an escort for capitals, freighters in particular, or a sniper at gate camps. I found that on a Myrmidon, for not hardly any ISK expended, you can get a control range of about 200km, most t2 light drones are capable of intercepting at a top speed of 8-11km/s. My only question is wither or not at those speeds the drones tracking can keep up with high speed interceptors. Will just have to try it out and see how effective it really is. :)
