There are cruiser class cargo ships in this game, think Exequror's 10% cargo capacity per gallente cruiser skill level.
Anyhow, I haven't been into Starwars for quite a few years now but if memory serves the MF was quite a few sizes smaller than the Nebulon-B class medical frigate (which was referenced as rebel cruiser sometimes).

You may be thinking of the Mon Calamari cruisers, such as the Independence and the Liberty.

Meh, I tend to think that frigates in eve are roughly the same size as the MF, which isn't the size of a cruiser I can guarantee that.

Edited by: Cmdr Delrox on 27/03/2007 23:54:58 Han is a pirate so like all faction ships it should have 2 racial bonii. Caldari definitely, do to looks. But the other part should be Minmatar due to being held together by duct tape and a wish, plus it needs a speed bonus. So Caldari would give a 5% bonus to shield total, the Falcon was always said to have oversized shields on it. It doesn't need a weapon bonus cause it is a cargo ship. Maybe a cruiser of the cargo variety. So give it a 25% bonus to cargo bay since it is pirate faction and it gets one bonus. Plus it had 2 turret and 1 launcher on it. Thank link is inappropriate. -Hango ([email protected])

Caldari definately.
Can anyone say *QUAD LASER CANNONS*? Definately partly Amarrian. And given the Falcon's continuous mechanical problems and rigged up nature, Matari sounds about right as well.
The guns in star wars arent actually lasers. They are railguns.
(Thats what G. Lucas said in making of star wars documentary at least)
Which of course explains quite nicely why they are literally called "Lasers" and "Turbo Lasers"... The George Lucas' Star Wars license should be revoked for too many violations.

Hello, the M. Falcon is Khanid Amarr/Caldari
But Minmatar kinda fits with all the "modifications" Han made.
Ok,
1) ALL SHIPS in the Star Wars universe use Laser Cannons (lasers) or "Ion Cannons" (Star Wars terminology for large railguns that do a form of EM damage). So the weapon similarities have to go right out the window, or every ship in the Star Wars universe could be claimed by the Amarr or Gallente. That's a red herring and not useful for comparison.
2) Rigs (IE: Custom modifications ala Han and Chewie's work on the MM) are available on every ship type and class across every race in EVE. Like weapon types in the Star Wars universe, they are a homogeneous norm to ONE fantasy universe, and also not useful for comparison. Another red herring.
3) Shield Tank: The Millenium Falcon is not known for it's particular shield tank ability. Or perhaps you forget:
Luke - "What's that flashing?" Han - "Don't touch that kid. That's our rear deflector failing. Strap yourselves in, this is gonna get a little rough!"
Sounds to me like the MM had kinda crappy shields.
Really, the things that made the MM stand out were it's VERY high speed, it's agility, and it's overall ability to take and deal damage far more than the average Correlian cargo ship.
From a comparison standpoint, the only useful features are overall design and cultural comparisons. All else is an apples-oranges comparison.
Actually the Falcon had really good shields since as a Blockade Runner it could take repeated hits from an Imperial Star Destroyer which is at least a Battleship.

Originally by: Bish Ounen Umm... Why do you have it listed as a "Cruiser"? The Millenium Falcon is a Correlian CARGO ship. Yes, Han and Chewy modded the hell out of it and made it a formidable war machine for it's size, but it's still not a cruiser-class ship. As one of the earlier posters stated, it's proper classification would be "Blockade runner" or perhaps "Heavy blockade runner" to denote the extra firepower it can bring to bear.
Basically it's a fast combat cargo ship.
Oh, and yes it would be Caldari, not Minmatar. Just look at the design: Flat blocky surfaces, and a grey color scheme. Also, the Correlians are a corporate/business driven people. Basically the Star Wars universe version of Caldarians. (or is that the other way around?)
Hmm...
That makes me think. If the Caldari = the Correlians, how would the other races fit into the Star Wars universe Re: Their overall ship design ethos and cultural comparisons?
Let's see....
Caldari = Correlians
Gallente = Calamarians
Amarr = The Naboo as far as ship design (ship bling) but Empire for culture.
Minmatar = .... Not sure really. Perhaps the Nal-Hutta for ship-design, but the Wookies for culture.
Anyone else wanna geek-out and give it a shot?
Amarr definitely fit Naboo and Empire even in culture. Remember, Senator Palpatine (later Supreme Chancelor Palpatine and then of course Emperor Palpatine) was from Naboo, not Coruscant as many think since that become the capital of the Empire. ------------------------------------------------ UPDATED March 11 Formal request for improvements to industrialism |

I'd like you to explain why the you can see the light of the "lasers" fly thru the air in small packets. Much like the railgun. Last time I checked you couldnt see light fly thru the air, its a bit too fast for that.

Edited by: Dahak2150 on 28/03/2007 02:29:09 Since we've already crossed the line into really nerdy...here's a quote from the official "Star Wars Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology." According to this, blasters are particle beams, not rails.
"When a blaster is fired, a small amount of high-energy blaster gas moves from the gas chamber to the gas conversion enabler. There the gas is excited by energy from the weapon's power source...The excited gas passes into the actuating blaster module, where it is processed into a beam comprised of intense energy particles coupled with light. The prismatic crystal housing focuses the beam, which is further focused...as it passes down the blasters barrel. The final particle beam contains high-energy particles that cause tremendous damage to anything they hit; the bolt's visible light is a harmless by-product of this reaction."

Caldari design. Who else would've put things at all those crazy angles all assymetric? And the mechanicals are all Matari. I.E. Duct taped / Bubble gummed to a Caldari Hull and Rigged to high heaven. The shields always failed because of Han's craptastic cap skills And Chewie's ineptidtude at Warp skills didn't help them much..

umm, that's astoundingly simple to explain... it's a MOVIE. You see, George Lucas is a movie maker (well, at least that's what he tells people anyway) not a physicist, so he isn't looking at the technical aspects of what the special effects department is coming up with, he wanted something that looked good enough, didn't break the bank, and that he/viewers could relate to, and that being weapons that fired in broken volleys of "rounds" rather than a continuous stream/beam as a conventional laser would.
Also, you can very easily see a laser depending of course on whether or not its in the visible spectrum and the length of the "burst", because the light (again presuming it's of the visible spectrum) is incredibly intense and in fact you frequently would need special glasses akin to welder's goggles to protect your eyes from how intense the light actually is.

Ahh, but you forget. The Falcon never actually got shot by any Star Destroyers. It was too agile, and thusly they sent fighters after it. The fighters were able to knock down the Falcon's shields in just a few hits. From this we can surmise that the falcon relied on agility and raw speed combined with a not-insignificant amount of firepower for survival.
However, one of the other posters does made an excellent point about the Execeurer (sp). While a cruiser-class ship, it is hardly a fighting vehicle. Perhaps the MM does belong in the cuiser class, and is the Star Wars analog to a ship much like the Exec? Either way my point still stands about it being Caldarian. It just has a lot of extra rig slots in use by Han and Chewie. :)

Edited by: Ticondrius on 28/03/2007 17:01:57 A bit of clarification: Turbolasers are very powerful railguns that fire contained plasma charges. These charges do not need to be stored, as they are created "on the fly" by the loading mechanism by drawing power directly from the ship's power source. Due to the nature of the source of the ammunition, turbolaser range, power and quantity of barrels is determined by the mounting vessel's core power output.
Lasers are the same, it's just a label to define a smaller sized weapon.
Blasters, however, require pregenerated ammunition that is stored in power packs. Examples include blaster pistols all the way up to vehicle and fighter sized weapons.
That said, Han Solo's sidearm is a blaster. Chewbacca's bowcaster is a VERY small sized Laser, as it does not use a power pack, but has a small internal power source, much as lightsabres do.
The Millenium Falcon has 2 quad turbolaser turrets, top and bottom. It also has a single laser cannon mounted under the*****pit. It is also equipped with concussion missiles, but I'm unsure if there are 1 or 2 tubes without looking it up. I want to say just 1.
Therefore, it is uses REALLY heavy medium railguns with AM ammunition (range is only 2km on it's turbolasers, lacks the power to fire further...) and an assault launcher (or two). RABBLE! RABBLERABBLE!! |
