Does anyone know what the chance of a spawn being an officer is when you warp into a belt % wise?
I know it's extremely low I'm just interested.
What about regular faction spawn? Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes - Devil
258 bytes over! |

Officer spawns are different to faction spawns. Officers are a battleship rat with a higher bounty and drop xxx's modified items instead of true sansha for example.

I have personally seen (and killed) about 10 officer spawns(1 year in 0.0), most of them in pirate sov regions.

I was a faction spawn hunter and have amassed a large number of kills in a few years of hunting Dominations and a few True Sansha's. And I have not seen one Officer spawn in all that time unfortunately. And only heard of 2 1 in Tenefiris and 1 in Feythabolis.

7-month old player here, been in 0.0 for about four, and I've seen countless faction spawns in Delve, and one officer. :D He dropped the second best Cap Booster and PDU in the game and he netted me a grand total of 2.4bn.
So here's a big f***-you to missionrunners who insist that running missions is the one and only way to make money. ---------------

You see for mission runners its safe easy and consistant money, more like a day job, what your doing is basically gambling, gambling the chance of spawn and teh chance of getting podded.
2 completely different activities for 2 different types of people.

Gambling? Nah. I don't gamble. Ever. Not even if it's a game. You'd see me watching *** **** before seeing me at a casino.
0.0 ratting is far easier than missionrunning. I don't even need to think of an awesome tank, just a Raven with cheap named mods does the trick. One battleship spawn nets me a total of 2.4m - 3.2m every belt. Killing the trio takes 2-3 minutes at most. That yield is far higher than what L4 missions can ever offer, excluding the waiting time while drywashing your hands and wondering if the retarded agent is gonna stop giving you +5 charisma implants or something miserably stupid.
Just take the usual precautions that the smart lowsec missionrunner (this term is a misnomer, missionrunners moan and brown their pants at the thought of lowsec) would take. Make star safespots, align to star while shooting the torps, etc. Most missionrunners just hide in hisec and make their pennies, calling it the best way evar to make iskies.
Meh. I'm just unhappy at hisec missionrunning being such a risk-free endeavour. It's bloody out of place in a game where everything one does involves risk. ---------------

Missed the target by a wide margin.
If you read carefully the people speaking about the "huge" mission runner rewards (and generally asking to nerf them) are for the 90% ratters lamenting that they get less than mission runnersn not the reverse.
And most of those ratters don't loot the wreckage as that will lower the isk for hour they get.
Go figure . From my limited experience the loot is the best thing in ratting but they lament they are getting a low reward and then don't go for the best part of it.

I've read countless theories on the topic and none seemed to be the definite and all were quite different. I've been in stain, GW and pure blind for quite a few months each and so far have killed about 10 - 15 faction and 0 officer spawns, and i think the total value of items dropped was less then 1 bil.

That's not true whatsoever, I've only seen 3 officers in my time, and all three were in non-sovereign territory (though the 'true' security status of the systems was low) ----------

Edited by: Nocturnal Avenger on 29/03/2007 10:42:29 Last summer I found the 18M officer in the Curse region. Loot was about 1B. Two days later the same officer appeared - loot was also about 1B.
Since then I participated (or heard about) 3-4 other officers.
The time period for all this is about 3-4 months and I ratted several hours each day.
Total loot value was 3-4B.

These extreme differences in different people's experiences are down to two things:
1) Chance. 2) Region/Constellation.
From personal experience, the best theory around at the moment is that officer spawns are vastly more common in pirate 'home' constellations than they are anywhere else in EVE. Spawns in other locations are possible, but the likelihood probably falls off with some kind of log-based curve. Where I used to live (which I won't advertise) was known as the 'home' constellation of one of the big pirate factions, and someone in the corp used to pop an officer roughly once a week. I only ever got one myself, but they were there alright.

Edited by: SamtheDog on 29/03/2007 11:36:55 Officer spawns are quite frequent if you search for them enough. Last summer I was getting 2-3/week & netted nearly 30bn in 3 months. It's a term I coined when I'm searching aka "The Officer Hunt" which often nets 2-3 faction rats per session + the occasional officer. One time we got 3 officers & 5 faction rats in less than a 1 hour period.
I'd say the statistical chance of a faction rat would be 1/1000 for a faction & 1/10k per officer. There IS a way to get a much higher chance of getting them outside complexes. Some peopel thing that killing off all the spawns seems to do the trick (aka 'priming' a system) but it doesnt' really work out that way.
Though I played less during when I was lecturing, I still got around 1/week avg until the past two months where I got nothing but piddly faction rats.
Got an officer yesterday netting me around 1.2-1.4bn in isk. They are the best way to get rich in this game if you're not a complex runner. AS for myself, around 62bn & climbing in 1 year.

I recently found one in a .6 system. I forget what it was called but it dropped a nice t2 implant, "Slave delta" or something.
40 odd millions worth made from a single rat in .6? Lovely.
However, one in nearly two years of playing? Like a blue moon it would seem.
