Here is what happened to me: I have an item for sale in an auction in Jita for 450m, someone contacts me and says I'll take it for 425m, I reply sure why not. He sends me a private contract where I have to give him the money and I give him the item. Fortunately, I read the contract carefully and it said in small letters, "you will pay" instead of "you will receive" Now here is my question: can we have them banned for that or does CCP not care at all?

I dont scam people but im never going to stand up for people who want to remove it from the game, stealing things is totally part of the game and the way lots of people make their living. Well, he was part of a corp for only 0.0 days so I guess he is using an alt for scamming hoping that no one will find out who he is so he does not get destroyed or poded.

You're lucky that there's a contract system in place in the first place, you don't even want to know the horrors that went with escrow scamming. Scamming is a fundamental part of EVE that while we may hate and despise the people that do it, we all the same love it because it adds just that much more to the already rich environment that is EVE online. This is what sets EVE apart from the other MMO's. No one holds your hand...you know, that whole sandbox thing the devs are always raving about. I think this is the first time I've ever said this, but if you find that it's a bit too "harsh" for you , can I have your stuff?

If he almost got 450 mil from using a 1 day old character, he could just as easily be creating chars left and right, and you'd never catch him. No, i'm afraid the only true way to deal with scams is to use some common sense. Pretend for a moment that you actually spent time and effort making your iskies, thus proving to be a little bit of an investment for you, and have a bit of caution. The OP did the right thing in that he noticed he was being scammed and didn't fall for it. That's all you can really do. If there weren't any gullible people, there wouldn't be any scammers. So we might as well weed them all out.

I dont take pleasure in seeing other being scammed or loosing money to scammers. The scammers and corp thieves are the lowest of thelowest scums in EVE. However: It is still a "legal" feature of the game. "Scammers and stealers" - more known as criminals - is just as much a profession as being a miner, missionrunner or mercenary. Also, what set this game from other games, is that it requires the use of your braincells. I know that many plays games so they dont have to put any strain on their few braincells, but that simply dont work in EVE. Its sad that the OP got scammed! I truly am! But CCP can not and should not do anything about it! Doing so would completely change the direction of the game! And set it in a direction it was not intended to! I would suggest that you always get some information about who you are trying to trade with. If a day old char offers you a deal for 500 mill, it is most likely a scam. Some might say that getting information is a waste of time.. but if it is about 100s of mil, TAKE the time ------------------------ I don't believe in sigs.

I just recently started using contracts and yes I am discovering this part in Eve. Having concentrated my last year in Eve only on missions, complexes, etc... If you are better than everyone else, than maybe you should get banned for knowing everything...

Scammers just found another breach, as always. 'scam resistant' is not 'scam proof'. I always read contract details twice, and ask corpmates do they find them to be 'correct' :)
