I like a lot of you head that EVE was going free to play came back to be disappointed that you could not fly your favorite ship or use you skill you need.
I've thought about re-subbing but I just can see paying to just be placed right back in the same spot once I un-subbed.
would you the casual player pay to have ship's and skill's permanently unlocked to you. |

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format.
Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

OP, that's like finding out that a burger place doesn't sell pizza, so if you want a pizza shouldn't you go to a pizza place?
EDIT: if you're asking if CCP might introduce other options between Alpha and Omega clones, say a Delta clone that lets you fly T2 frigates, then I'm sure it's an option they've considered possible for the future, depending on how Ascension goes and the feedback they get.

It doesn't matter what we would want to pay, as no one is going to sell it. Besides. Don't you think it would depend on the number of SP? A titan pilot surely would have to pay more than a char just out the 21 day trial. |

So a alpha can simply invest the necessary subscription time to learn what he wants to learn then do what you suggested. |

http://i.imgur.com/LtCk4fY.jpg That would be a lot more "hilarious" or whatever you were going for if EVE didn't actually almost die at one point, and then spend half its lifetime in steady decline.
As for the other clone types, I tend to think it's unnecessary. The fun I'm having in the game doesn't require any of it. As long as the fun to suck ratio in the game doesn't drastically change to make that stuff more appealing, I probably won't be changing my behavior, and therefore probably won't spend any additional money. I guess there are a couple adventures I still want to have, but they still wouldn't require a sub. And that's what the devs claimed the point of alphas were... that there's fun to be had regardless the clone states. If you suck at finding fun as an alpha, you're not going to find the fun as an omega, and any paid mid clone states will just end up being a ripoff.

Yes, but it perfectly answers your question.
If you don't want to train further skills, but play 'for free' indefinitely, you can sell your SP to pay for PLEX.
It works because CCP makes money on the PLEX you consume, that someone bought from them.
If you could play without a subscription, the business model wouldn't work, even if you paid, say, 100$ upfront. Because 20$/month (for PLEX) 'forever' is much better than 100 bucks and then nobody pays anymore.
So what you're asking is: a) already doable through SP selling + PLEX buying b) would make CCP broke if done in another way

Of course I would. I would love to have 50 or 60 money making accounts that I never have to pay for again to fund my actual playing accounts.
But since CCP likes to make money, it's not going to happen - at least not in the way you envision. There's a very specific reason why Alpha clones are capped by the skill and level, and not by a raw number of skill points - CCP doesn't want everyone trying to PLEX their accounts on the backs of FTP characters.
Assuming that Ascension works the way they seem to want, I could see some kind of tiered subscription service being introduced in the future, but I doubt very seriously that you're going to wind up with one time payment to unlock skills and ships. Otherwise I'll just pay to unlock the PI skills on like 50 characters and never need to spend another dime of real money on this game.
Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you.

I don't think that's the reason. The reason probably is to keep alphas below the SP extractor threshold. Now, they can't reasonably fit all racial cruiser, frigate and destroyer skills within 5M SP, so were they to allow alphas to train anything up to 5M, we'd end up with a bunch of Alphas who trained minmatar cruiser, medium beam lasers and repair drones, with no way to respec into something sensible.
So, it's to keep Alphas below where they can be used to farm SP, but prevent them from training useless crap they can't fix later.
Assuming someone found a way to grind a PLEX every month with a free account, it wouldn't be much of a problem, really. Every PLEX bought on the market with ISK has been put there by a player who bought it with Money first. So, even if you finance your account with ISK, every month you play as Omega is a month CCP gets paid. They wouldn't really care who exactly pays them, as long as they get paid at all.
That's why it's also not a problem if you for example have all the skills you want already, and decide to finance your account by selling your excess SP training and buying PLEX for it. So in practice, you can currently easily play an Omega without paying a dollar to CCP, just by selling your SP and maybe adding a minimal amount of grind on top of it. CCP still makes money off that, as long as PLEX are involved.
If they were to let you play a fully trained account without a subscription or PLEX however, no matter how you pay for those skills, as long as it's a one time payment, they would stop making money off of that account at some point, and that would be really bad, because even vikings need to eat sometimes. |

The problem is, there are many things in Eve where you would skill and alt to a specific level, then stop training that character. Because they're perfect for what you want to use them for.
A big example is cyno alts.
So, if you could do what you suggest, CCP would take a massive hit on revenue. Which is sub-optimal for them. To put it mildly.

Actually, come to think of it this is probably a good idea. Time to hit the PLEX market.

It's actually very good idea that could bring more RL money to CCP.
Unlock ALL T2 frigates for weekend - $5 USD, unlock all T2 cruisers for weekend, $10, unlock all capital ships for the weekend, $20!
Just make sure that there is stupid price attached for temporary unlocks, and those people who do not like subscriptions will pay for these weekend unlocks and end up paying more than they would have if they just paid for annual subscription.
But that's precisely how many customers behave these days. Give them temporary but immediate candy and charge them more for it than a permanent supply of candies at steadily progressing ways. Many people will pay up for temporary but immediate gratification.

It's like the OP isn't aware that there is something called 'subscription' that can be done with either RL money or PLEX. It's even cheaper than Friday nights in the bar.

You're under the assumption that EVE players have a healthy social lifestyle. What is wrong with you!?! You know we don't know what it's like to go outside and socialize so how would OP know what to do on Friday nights other than play EVE.

Nothing is added, this isn't some nonsense carrot on a stick MMO that lures you into paying/grinding some more every 6 months with new "content" and things to level up.
If you do not like how EVE does things, feel free to go to any of the other eleventy billion games that do things the way you like them. I hear Star citizen is going to be awesome. |
