I fear I must disagree. If one wishes to sample the range of delights on offer to the sci-fi affectionado one must limit the range of choices on offer. In a 20 film selection Akira wins the anime slot, good as GIS is.
And I think Cowboy Bebop is better as well actually. However the film needs the series with it to really stand up.

Ah. Manga Entertainment just finished the 2nd GIG on UK DVD shortly before Chimbo, releasing the full series in collector's tin shortly after Vol 7.
Chances of a UK release of that movie this year: slim. Even NEO magazine hasn't mentioned it yet. Anyhoo...

I have loved the book for years, and was apprehensive to say the least.
But it was damn near the best book to movie adaptation that I have ever seen. It doesn't get me into "OMGWTFAMIONDRUGS" mode like the book does, but movies have always lacked a level of immersion for me that reading a book provides.
I was flipping though the channels last Saturday night and one of the cable channels was playing "I, Robot". I nearly vomited it was so terrible. Poor Asimov. Good thing he died before than POS was filmed. The film version of Nightfall was bad enough. An author shouldn't have to be insulted that way twice.

Too true. I dragged my GF to "I, Robot" on promises that it was based on the genius that was Asimov, and it heartily let me down.

Edited by: Vari on 09/04/2007 03:26:55 Try to get the HD movies if you can, I recently discovered it and ... wow. 1080p is the future. Spend 2-3 thousand if you have it to spend. Funny how a 21" CRT you get off craigslist for $40 usd does the same though.
Movies to own: Ghost in the Shell TV Seasons 1 & 2 The Matrix 1
Have-to-sees (but may be too boring to own) 2001: Space Odyssey Blade Runner
The endings of GITS Seasons 1 & 2 are mind-blowing. You rarely see movies with endings that good.
And check out The Matrix Squared: Spence Edit Revised. It takes everything after the first movie and puts it in a nice ~2 hour long package.
I hear Metropolis gets rave reviews too, but I haven't seen it

I know that you all think that it's the greatest movie ever made, but are too ashamed to admit it.
If you didn't mention it I would have , best movie ever!
A couple of my favorites, but not all: Lexx (ok, so not a movie, but I love it!) Spaceballs Event Horizen The Terminator 1 & 2 The Last Starfighter Star trek: First Contact
non-Sci-Fi: Night of the living Dead Dawn of the dead (original and remake) They (so not the best horror movie) M*A*S*H Goodbye, Farwell and Amen (I am a big MASH fan, so best movie ever right here, when I holiday in the US, i know where my first sighseeing trip will take me) Undead 28 Days later Resident Evil 1&2 ( so this could be sci-fi/horror)
Pick the odd 2 out in that list :) _____________________________________ Check out my poorly written blog at RantingsofaCarebear.blogspot.com |
