Nation.
Even if the Covenant swept over everything, sooner or later it'd collapse and plunge us all into another dark age. There's an off chance we might see a second Moral Reforms, and end up with a stable, workable civilization instead.
Nation's depressingly sustainable. I don't ever want to be in a situation where the secret little part of my mind that isn't ever allowed to communicate or influence my actions is praying for a supernova so I can just finally, actually, properly die.
Put another way: I'd rather be dead than taken by either, but with the Covenant it's about how they'd kill me; with Nation, it's about how they wouldn't.

Nah. Then again I'm not a philosopher.

Yes. I use it to interface with fully-immersive VR novels. And the coffee-maker on my Nidhoggur. Because nothing is quite as nice as fully-immersive coffee-making.

You're in a desert walking along in the sand when all of the sudden you look down, and you see a tortoise, it's crawling toward you. You reach down, you flip the tortoise over on it's back. The tortoise lays on it's back, it's belly baking in the hot sun, beating it's legs trying to turn it'self over, but it can't, not without your help. But you're not helping. Why is that?

Because I am curious about the behavior of a flipped-over desert tortoise and wish to observe.
Why am I curious about this in the first place?

This isn't much of a choice. Hope doesn't prove that you did the right thing. If I could live a short life and know that I did the right thing, with some proof of it outside of my own belief/hope, I would choose that. But whether or not I did the right thing, it doesn't concern me much whether I feel good about myself (which seems to be the benefit of the former choice). Doing the right thing is about how it impacts others and the world. Feeling good about yourself is relatively useless once you're at the end of your lifespan. At least if results are laid out, I can learn one final time, rather than just sit around with my short, ineffectual life and feel good about myself perhaps with little reason to do so.

Another one I can answer!
There was this one time someone decided to try and play the role of the 'addled capsuleer'. We all know the one--most of us have played it ourselves!--and while typically it's not all so bad, this one really did stick out.
I got rid of the fine details of why, precisely, they decided to connect and begin muttering incoherently, and indeed who they were--neither is important--but wowee.
The flavour of 'mysterious and garbled' that took their fancy was electrodynamics. I know, right? None of this beautiful modern theory, either. Some horrid misinterpretation of fearfully old formulations. Just spouting these equations out aloud like it was meaningful and deep!
Eurgh. It gives me chills that someone thought that that was the height of mystique and intrigue.

The question that Jason asked and Jev answered is particularly interesting to me. It's a bit of a cheap inversion, I know, but I would like to ask: if at some point you chose not to retire, unplug your implants, or march your merry way on into the biomass vats and wake up a long while later mightily confused at what happened, why didn't you? |

I had this chance when I first got my identity ratified and my hangar privileges unlocked. I could have just liquidated all my predecessor's assets and gone, well, anywhere-- set a bunch of my ISK balance up in a broad investment portfolio, stashed the rest in various accounts, and probably lived a pretty happy, quiet life. Only, if I did that, the implants, the training still rattling around in my head-- what was that all for?
The New Eden star cluster isn't a place without troubles, exactly. There's work for people like us; really, it often seems like there's no end of it. In the end, I'm not the sort of person who'd be happy living what feels like someone else's life, off of someone else's assets, without trying to be someone constructive, myself. The wealth I'd have would have been obtained at the cost of pain I'd never experienced. I might not have blood on my own hands (that I could remember), but it would drip from my account balance. And, also, I'm not really happy asking other people to do things I won't. I'm not comfortable leaving the dirty work to others.
It meant I'd be a killer again, but ... if that's really my part to play in this world, I guess I'm okay being that.
Sort of a grim question, but ... do you collect frozen corpses? If so, what do you do with them?

I know an Eve University faculty who stores corpses of misbehaving students in his meat locker. It's likely a combination of wanting to use the corpses as a warning and having a morbid collector's streak.
Personally, I do not collect corpses. I mean, what do I want to do with the corpses? It's not like any of these corpses have some state-of-the-art implants I had never seen before to yank out to examine. Also, cryo costs add up and if I do not put them in cryo, they will start to stink. So, just leave them flash-frozen out in space and let some biomass collector drop by and collect them some time. It's not like I have any way to sell the corpses to them personally anyway.
If someone off-the-grid is to sell you a full set of HG Hardwire implants for only 25% of their market price, will you buy them?

To keep the question going: does anybody *really* collect frozen corpses? Meat-locker style? Why? I actually have a few corpses, one of which may be CEO's. I might taunt her with it on occasions when she gets a big head. (Note: I didn't pod her for it, I mearly survived the fight in which she was podded.)

Well, it could be 'used' and tuned to the previous user's brain function or it could be using some out-of-date firmware or may be storing some kind of malicious programming in its microelectronics. Takes a lot of time turning the whole thing inside out to be very sure it's legit and clean.
A very paranoid man wouldn't take the deal.
Also, what question should I put out?

I once kicked the hydrazine rocket boosters to maximum thrust, boosted right off a mobile command center, soared over 500m, kicked over a war-truck in the way (it was housing bandits wielding heavy weapons) before proceeding to skid 45 degrees forward, turning around at the same time, and lay down suppressing fire. In a combat MTAC.
Does that count?

I think the optimal location for the ports are at the back, considering the nerves for motor function are all there, in the spine. Cranium wouldn't work, because that's not where our motor neurons are at. Limbs do not work either, since that would mean using limb nerves requires to control ship function. That will mean we have to form the concept of the human limb in our mind and associate that with specific ship systems. Plenty of problems there, not to mention contradicting our training to let go of proprioception.
Travelling via the Interbus shuttle network vs travelling via your own ship, which do you prefer?

I don't have a personal ship due to not actually being a capsuleer but let's be honest and say that, while I do used Interbus extensively to get around the cluster, it would be pleasant to travel aboard a private vehicle rather than have to listen to my shoes stick to the floor when I walk to my seat.
My question comes with a scenario.
Let us say as Sef comes to you one day (regardless of whether or not you believe in them, if not then insert some other religious being or icon) and tell you that you can have anything your heart desires but as a cost you can never leave the atmosphere of the planet you currently are on.
What do you wish for and where would you like to spend the rest of your existence? (I condemn any individual who wishes for more wishes or a being that can provide wishes that exist outside of these conditions as possessing a supremely lazy mind)
What fills the soul?
Something that guides a lost child back to it's parents arms.
Or waves that dye the shores of the heart gold.
A blessed breath to nurture life in a land of wheat.
Or the path the Sef descend drawn in ash.
In the wake of fire.
