Yes, EVE is close to be shut down! After all, it is know that thirteen year old MMOs all shut down a year after, specially if they are making a profit and the developers behind it are laser focused on working the game themselves love while keeping their livelihood going so they can support their homes and families.
Real talk? Instead of being busy thinking about whether the game will exist one year from now, what about you have fun with it now instead of mincing details? Isn't a good short life one worth living? |

Yes, older players drop out of the game, and new people join.
The thing is, you don't _stay_ new. So it's not like there's a massive loss of institutional knowledge when an older player leaves. Because what they know has been picked up by players who are in the middle of their life as an eve player.

Now I see where you`re coming from. If this is your standard I know no game who has successfully integrated a spin off into its gameplay. Also I doubt I would want my fighters or turrets be operated by another player without knowing or being able to influence said players skill and/or level of intoxication. |

But the sun *is* dying. For another five billion years approximately.
Also, everywhere one goes there's always that guy who holds up the placard that screams, "DOOOOOM!". I don't mean the doom where we get to kill demons with our bare hands, mind.
A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

I am offering special deals until the old servers shut down: Give me ISK and I will give it back ten times on the new server. You can get personal housing, skins and ships too, just send me ISK and let me know what you want at TheEndIsNear(at)EVE.com
I also offer insurances for ships and structures you will leave behind on DoomsDay. Make sure your beloved ones have everything they need after you have ascended to the new servers. 1) Its money/time/effort that didnt go into EVE.
2) These spinoffs do not contribute to EVE.
3) Since there is no integration of these spinoffs into EVE, your last sentence is hypothetical.

As someone who has worked (now retired) in the video game industry specifically in MMOG's, I would speculate that CCP is still making good profit from EVE Online. As I have zero insight into their business (operating costs, investments, loans, etc), that's just my industry experience guess.
I only say that because CCP is running a one-universe type game here that actually shows their numbers. While it's surely lower from back in the day when I used to play, it's still solid numbers for a niche MMOG that many didn't think would succeed. There are other online games that were subscription based that went F2P with speculated much lower player numbers who are still around today. There are also those with much lower that have sold off to other companies or completely shut down.
Being they have had some cuts and whatnot--which always happens in this industry to keep the game profitable--I have no doubt they would ever be in a position to not sustain EVE, at least not anytime soon. If they are looking to sale, it's likely not because of player numbers. It's likely do to something else. Afterall, CCP Games is still a business and likely still aiming for being a for profit business regardless of any emotional or other attachment we have.
Just my 2 cents anyways. |

Its my opinion and hope that EVE will not die soon because I think that there's so much new technology coming out sooner or later there will be strong enough server to overcome tidi and have a real time pleasant capital fight with 10k+ people in eve with no lag at all.Because eve player base is not so large this moment is not so far away in time, and once tech catches up the game will be given new life because finally eve videos will resemble what's going on in game.  |

Eve has been around a long time and I have seen a significant change in the player numbers since around 2012 - and the f2p aspect appears to be providing a bit of an injection over the last month or so of new players - if half of them stay around then eve will have picked up some reasonable numbers - and with the way alpha accounts are restricted many of those will either buy plex or a subscription- there is little incentive to stay free once a player has learned the basics of eve- but it means players can learn the game without putting a 3 or 6 month subscription down- this way new players can make an informed decision to pay for the game or not. This could work for ccp and I hope it does. Still lots to work on - but all the graphics improvements in the last two years have sharpened up the game nicely. I think eve has a big future ahead at this point. |
