In general I am very happy with the direction Eve is taking.
The world is darker, but more vibrant.
(bold added by me)
That's not always true. The last time we got war decced by the Privateers things were a bit quiet on the home front so we came to high sec looking for targets. We got some fun fights too.
Then some totally random scrub stole the loot. My overview was bugged anyway so when the FC called flag and kill I did it without hesitation. Turns out the target was only flagged to the corp that made the final kill and I got concorded
It was then I remembered why I hate high sec. Too many dodgy rules enforced by NPCs who are invincible and never negotiate. Give me player enforced law every time. I much prefer dealing with people than algorithms.
Oh and Nya, they may have decced us because someone paid them too. Not because they view us as some sort of ebil empire which everyone knows we are not.

The Good
- Introduce new players to PvP
- Give bored people who are looking for a fight an abundance of targets
- Push more people out into low-sec/0.0
- Keeps the empire ship market healthy!
The Bad
- Introduce new players to PvP when they dont want to be
- Keeps the newbie corps unhealthily full
- Destroys many player corps/alliances who may well have made it far
- May well push a certain demographic from the game (the peace loving hisec type)
I for one have an alt in a newbie corp I use to move stuff around in hisec, then pick it up on the border to 0.0 with my main. Its far safer than facing the evil Empire of doom.

Edited by: Amphetaminer on 17/04/2007 10:56:05 8t doesnt really push people to low sec... People just refrain from entering alliances that are war decced or stay in small corps/npc corps. So they can still have some peace in high sec. The risk in low-sec isnt worth it. There are no real rare minerals in low-sec that are worth mining (you make more mining scordite in high sec then jaspet in low-sec) All it does is make people try to go around the war dec system and give them less options.

The effect the PA has had on the game? Yet again, we are forced to find a workaround to combat an exploit. As workarounds go, using an alt to haul is not so bad, but it is definitely a workaround.
I had an idea about a way to discourage outrageous wardecs, that actually fits into the overall game concept pretty well. I have no idea if it has been said before, no idea if this is the place to post it, and no idea if it would have much effect. But here it is:
If your ship is blown up and you are a member of a corp/alliance that has declared war on another one, you are not eligible for insurance. You can't take out insurance, and your current contracts are canceled with no (or a small) refund.
What do you think?

Thanks for the opinions guys, and thanks for keeping this for the most part an actual conversation rather then flame.
Anyone remember when mOo tanked concord among many other random acts of "exploiting"? The dev's have changed the game now. It takes guys like mOo and Privateer Alliance to push the limits and "exploit" as people prefer to call it to better the game dynamics. Good work Privateers, I'm sure I'll see you around... camping the pipelines probably . hehehe

The only war dec abuse I'm familiar with is people disbanding their corps to avoid a war. Pirates and mercs don't like war dec abuse and are:
* Good at pvp * Have plenty of experience * Know how to play eve.

Somewhere in today's Russia: "Boss, they'r here again!" "But..but..we payed last week!" "They say they want more..." "And fighting the Russian Maffia has costs us already many men..." "So...what do we do?" "We leave this place and start a-new somewhere else!" "But...that's cowardice!" "No, it's called common sense." "But...it's considered an...exploit?" "Oh? Oh well, then we just have to stay and pay or dy fighting...NOT!"
It would be nice to have all things considered an exploit put together somewhere. It would be even nicer if an explanation about why things are considered an exploit was given, but I'll settle for just a list of exploits. ----- FreeHansje

The saddest thing about all of this is just how small the alliance really is at any one time.
Due to lots of crying and whining on the forums the developers have purposely targetted a single alliance, for years before this the system was never changed, now due to one small group of people it is.
The majority of people who die to us were idiots anyway, I have to say I really do think that Privateer's have done everyone a favour.
1) We've forced people to travel around more in groups in Empire.
2) We've forced people in 0.0 alliances not to go into Empire as much unless they need to.
3) We're killing the useless highsec dwellers in 0.0 alliances in Empire that don't contribute and defend their space.
I personally don't see what the problem is. Looking over our KB's most of the people whining havn't even been killed by us.
Yes the wardec system is lame, it allows people to greif small defenceless corps, however we go after supposedly "The strongest people in the game".
All I have to say is people laughed, now they've cried and CCP has publically and specifically targetted a nerf at us, very bad form. Sadly if we Didn't wardec a certain alliance, oh I don't know lets call it "Alliance: B" I wonder if this wouldn't have happened.
But I guess it just goes to proove the point - Whine enough, and you'll get what you want. ______

Originally by: Thesas I am sure there are all kinds of reasons for the war situation to be as it is however nonsensical it seems to a new player. Suffice to say that some will choose to play the game on their own terms within their own little groups. NPC corps appears to be more than adequate and gangs work well in cooperative efforts.
I think the reality is that players will play on their own terms regardless of game mechanics. When game mechanics become an obstacle, then I highly doubt anyone will be forced into anything.
They say, come to the frontier. We offer multi million ISK ships with weapons lock upon you, gate camps to greet you, warp bubbles or some such fodder to ensnare you, come and visit us because we want to rifle through your belongings.
As alluring as that sounds, many will likely pass.
What a load of toss. No, seriously, going in to low-sec/0.0 is not the instant death sentence you make out. Yes you have to be a bit more careful than in hi-sec, but a bit of attention to the map, and maybe, oh I dunno, not going in alone, and you should be pretty safe. Put a bit of effort in to checking the map, make safespot BMs, use the scanner if there's someone in local... the only real problem is bubblecamps, and they're no so common as you make out. And the active ones show up pretty well on the map. And they're 100% reliably countered by using a scout.
FEAR isn't what stops people going in to 0.0

My only comment is I do think CCP should change how ALTS are handled if they are ALTS of a the same account. Basically the other two ALTS you are allowed are in the same "family".
With that if one of the members becomes an aZZ the others suffer. Meaning they get all the same ratings/standings and lock outs as the -5.0 rat w***e.
This still won't stop the true uber aZZeZ from doing their thang but it at least punishes them with having to pay for another account so they can freeload in their shuttles.

What Privateers did, was force 0.0 players to run alts to do their empire side logistics.
Seriously, when you've just run a freighter 20 jumps out of 0.0 to 'highsec' are you a) going to continue your hauler run, another 20 jumps to Jita (or market hub of choice) or b) pass off the cargo to an alt corp?
I rather liked being able to shoot at privateers, and fight a bit in Empire, but ... well, I always considered empire and lowsec to be downtime from the day to day stresses of 0.0. Privateers, with perpetual wardecs prevent that happening, and the sheer number of active wardecs moved from 'a cool concept' to 'taking the ****'.
*shrug* I still think Privateers, especially when they were doing the 'rolling wardec' thing, was a cool idea. Whilst I'd have quite happily just stayed in 0.0, at the same time, I _had_ to interact with empire, for POS tradegoods. Also ice, it's just not sane mining 0.0 ice when you've reasonable ore handy. (That's a different whinge though).
*shrug* between a perpetual wardec and a forced empire dependancy via POSes, the state of affairs was just 'broken'. CCP have taken steps to 'fix' that brokeness, in what's IMO a reasonable way - a few wardecs will still work nicely, a ludicrous number on the other hand, will get prohibitive.

don't forget when your in jita and you see 3 friendly and say 5 hostiles,,, those 5 hostiles see 4 friendys and about 100 hostiles, its actually more of a risk for them to be there.
I don;t gank in hubs, i hunt in outter empire, more fun and less gankage (thats not saying i wont shoot anything hostile regardless of ship, but goes both ways ill go for a bs the same as i go for a shuttle!!)
and the ironic thing, i know of at least 10 players in privateers at the moment that have mains/second mains in the very allainces they are fighting in privateers.
0.0 gives you camped somtimes blobbed entry systems, closed off to all but there own, i cant see how were doing any different, they make it difficult to get into there space, we make it difficult to enter empire.
love to all
maybe you are right. Maybe there are privateers like you, who don't gank lagged out people and don't run as soon as someone puts up some force.
But realy, the only privateers people see are those cowards who do just that.
I was in rens last night. all night there were 2 domis, a rook and a jag (i think) sitting outside the planet 8 station, trying to gank people who were undocking. The strangest thing was that for the while I sat there looking at them, they never once succeeded in killing anyone. They would just shoot at them for a while untill the target docks again. I'm sure they think what they do requires some realy groovy pvp skills. I don't tho.
Also what you claim about 4 of you vs 5 of "others". you fail to realize that those 5 who appear hostile to you are probbably all in different alliances and has no idea about eachother. so to each of them it is a 4 vs 1 citeuation. and as we all know it would take one hell of a ship and setup to go solo vs 4 people trying to gank you.
I hope you're right. I hope there is more to the privateers then a bunch of bottomfeeders killing people who can't do anythig to defend themselves and then feel like some kind of heroes about it.
Please do note that this is not meant as some personal insult. I realy do hope you are right. I just have to see it myself before I belive it.
edit: Kudos for makeing the smacktalking pie dock tho. I laughed my ass off.

So, ok let me get this straight.
You have a group of individuals unified under one cause.. ruin the game experience of other paying memebers and causing 4 out of 5 (as on of the above comment mentions) New players to the game (new money) to quit. Therefore costing the company extra money. This is ok because??!!

Seems to me from what I've seen from all the whines is that the problem people have isn't necessarily with the Privateers themselves, but the wardec system in general. We're just a nice big target that everyone likes to place the blame on.
Fact is, we've been using game mechanics laid down by CCP years ago. If it's a problem, then what they're doing isn't fixing it... they're just decreasing the scale.
I know how annoying it is to lose a ship in 0.0, fly 20 jumps back to a hub to buy a new ship, only to run into a camp. Before I was in Privateers, I was in a corp wardecced by them. I've been on both sides of the fence. Empire dependence sucks. Sure you can build tech1 ships and mods in 0.0, but what for when everyone else is flying tech2?
The way I see it, there is a problem, but it's derided from many different factors. Just like how EANM screwed over Amarr, T2 made 0.0 folks more empire dependent.
Privateering needs a place in Eve. I hope what CCP is doing is only a temporary fix.

If you just fit the godd*** ship right its really hard for them to kill you. reason? no bubbles. in 0.0 you need scouts/insane ships to bypass bubbles. in empire/lowsec if you really need to get around you just fit WCS + inertia mods and poof you are in warp before they have enough points, MWD back to the gate at 2km/s and above has never failed me to escape 10+ gatecamps bubble or no, or just tank a bit and dock.

PA is a joke. Form a fair fight and they run, dock, or log... or sit like a little girl in a pink cloak. They live to gank and grief. They utilize lag as their weapon of choice. And they are without a doubt full of nubbie wannabe piewats.
Some say they help... well they don't, they simply take meaning out of the game. The real wars are no longer meaningful. They waterdowned Eve to a pathetic gankfest. PA lives to hear us smack about them... and even pay for more wars to hear the nubbie whines about them. They are a disgrace to the game... I bet they'll re-dec another 100 wars just cuz I said that.
