There is not a problem with "game mechanics" here the problem is "game mechanics when fighting people that are challenge" and how much it sucks to have to actually work hard for your victories. The solution? Break off and go camp EC- ! CCP give us this "wonderfull" sov. system. @Gob We (ASW) didnt liked the game mechanics in the TCF/FE campaingn and we dont like it now. NOONE of us had fun these days. It was laggy and boring, same as ALL other bigger campaigns since 1,5 years now. And NOW we said "stop, thats it" and left D2 (aka epic alliance warfare). Believe it or not

They put up just enough POS to get our attention. I think it was 3 of them. That's hardly POS spamming. Then we had a series of great fleet fights. They didn't seem that concerned with our POS's. They seemed much more interested in fighting. They did not kick F-E alliance out of anywhere either. We ended up killing all the POS's. Also it was G not D2. They just want to do something different. TBH it's none of anyone's business why. They don't need a reason or rationalization for it. It's a game. They felt like playing it in another way. .. Or maybe they are being paid by bob! That is not what eve should be about, conquering space should be full of dramatic battles and enjoyment for the members. Determination SHOULD be required, but not to a point where your corporation and alliance wants to quit. There is a large difference between making effort and suffering.
