Yeah he claimed he logged to "save his pod"

Not to argue but thats rediculous man. I've never found any t2 frig that will *****my rax. Ishkur can definitely come close, but considering I'm set up with light t2 guns, valk IIs and a 1600 plate, I'm 100% confident in my statement.

I fly ishkur 90% of the time.... I know how to use that ship in a way that only god intended.... I can safely say i would kill almost any cruiser in it.... But..... as much as it pains me you are right!
I use the 4xNos setup Ishkur then drones for damage, can easily *****any other AF's. But your Thorax has the advantage.
1. If you use Nos in highs then your not doing enough damage but i couldnt keep cap up long enough to take you out.
2. If you use all blasters i cannot take ALL that damage as well and take out your drones then still have a stable cap setup to continue kicking your ass
3. If you use a Web.... well... i cant tank long enough to attempt anything worthwhile.
IF you didnt have drones then im pretty sure i could take the Rax, but as it is the ishkur just comes up short of doing the job. That said, nearly everyone underestimates the ishkur and when you do that you can kiss your ship good bye.
ALSO Ishkur is without a doubt the best pirate ship ingame, for solo work anyway... 4xNos drain the smaller ships in seconds, then web/scram... completely disable the ship! you can even be evil and play with their ship before releasing the drones to **** em up real good! After all..... pirating is all about the mental damage, **** the ship
Death is the only true freedom, brought on by our own ignorance.... Welcome to the "free" world in which we live... |

Incursus. Seriously. Not only does it look badass, it's cheap, fast, and packs a decent punch for a t1 frig. I'm confident against most cruisers I come up against in it, apart from a few ones I know will have nos fitted. Practically anything else is fair game through. It's able to kill anything smaller in seconds normally, and can give some of the ceptors a run for their money. With the help of a friend in a puni, I've killed an Harpy before. Managed to solo a prophecy today as well. Almost had a ferox too, but I had to warp out when he was on 30% structure. If he didnt have 2 assault missiles fitted he was mine. I've only lost a handful of them so far, and taken down a considerable number of ships with em. The best thing is, if you do die, you can afford another few hundred thousand replacements

Whats the deal with no one using BS for solo piracy? Whats happened to the modern pirate world? Everyone too afraid to use Battleships out solo or do they just feel they are completely incompetent at getting the job done solo?
From my perspective, most piracy takes place at gates or stations nowadays. Belt piracy is none-existant (almost) and probing missioners is nire-impossible, so I can't see how using battle cruisers or anything smaller is a viable way to pirate.
Right from when I was a nub pirate in 2005, I've always used a battleship on the most part, and right to this day I continue to do so. The only thing thats changed is I've moved from the Armageddon/Apoc to the Megathron, and ofcourse specialised.
How those of you who like anything smaller than battleships best, or even pirate in anything smaller than battleships period, is beyond me. It's just so damn impractical!

Well I made my first try at gate camping, in a prophecy, today, and it worked out alright. Obviously I can't hold steady against it, and catching stuff is annoyingly difficult, but it works reasonably well.
Anything below a BC, however, is doomed. I heard once that a duramaller could do it, but that'd be a rare exception.
Drakes btw are apparently extremely good tankers...enough to be comfortable tanking sentries for a long time. Passively too, if I remember/heard correctly.
Those of us who use smaller ships still cling to the dream of belt piracy...it happens now and again, but yeah, gates and stations have hundreds more ships per hour than any belt cluster.

Yes, the arby is very nice. Sucky sucky, with drones and tracking disruptor... It's one of the perfect solo ships.

Edited by: Merin Ryskin on 23/04/2007 07:19:28 For effectiveness: Pilgrim, by far. Nos-drone-ewar boats are good. Nos-drone-ewar boats with covert ops cloaks are better. The covert ops cloak is possibly the second most useful module for piracy, second only to warp scramblers. The advantage you get is that huge, both in setting up the perfect ambush and avoiding fights you don't want. Max-skill TDs make quick work of PvP gunboats, and the combination of nos + good drone dps gives you a good range of possible targets.
For style points: fully Serpentis-fitted Vigilant. Now retired after the release of tier-2 BCs and a few too many near misses, but THAT was piracy in style!

I like the Celestis and BB for pirating, when I can find a gang. The most fun I've had was a BB/Celestis/Gankrax gang... I got ganked by a blue in the end though.
For solo piracy, I like the Vexor. I think I'd like the ARRRRRRRbitrator more if I were skilled for it. I'd probably like the Myrmidon if it wasn't for the price tag of losing it. ;-)
In the end, the "best pirate ship" boils down to how you like to play.

Thorax is high on my list of fav pvp ships. Most AF would struggle against a cruiser but the Ishkur is unique. I'd be willing to bet it would give a rax a run for it's money.
Still, no promises.
Good luck killing (with blasters) a boat that has 85% natural kinetic and 60% natural thermal resistance on its shields. Then go to the armor, where it's even worse, and they're most likely tanked harder than natural anyway.
Aren't those the resists for the Deimos? Could swear the poster was talking about a Thorax. ---------------------- Boom goes the ship! Squish goes the pilot!

I love my rifter. 3 AC's and a rocket launcher works wonders. Just today I got a crow down to 50 hull hp before he poped me in the nic of time :) Almost taking a 20m+ ship in a 800k setup is a good fealing. Also took down a moa with some nice t2 eq. this week.
