For touring I like the crow - its able to avoid situations and you can scout areas quickly and even get a few cheap kills on the way, but its not much for bigger ships and sentries hurt.
At the end of the day you have to be adaptable and avoid sticking to any one combat philosophy for too long. People adapt! ______________________________________

For solo piracy, I like the Vexor. I think I'd like the ARRRRRRRbitrator more if I were skilled for it. I'd probably like the Myrmidon if it wasn't for the price tag of losing it. ;-)
In the end, the "best pirate ship" boils down to how you like to play.

Are you a politician? You just did a very large loop around the question...
No, I'm a software developer. ;-)
I think it was a "it depends on who's with me". For a single answer: Vexor.

you know...its a depends thing (and im not talking underwear :P )
for gate camping with friends the muninn is awesome..incredible lock time, massive damage, and can tank its share of sentrys with my setup. the solo part comes in if your waiting at a gate for smaller ships...insta pops most frigs and takes out cruisers before the sentrys make me warp out.
for just straight solo pirating in belts and waiting for ppl to attack at belt/stations cause they think they can take you out...the ishtar rules.

Depends on the mood really. Sometimes I just want brute force from the ole rax to squash weak ships within reach. Sometimes I feel sneaky and use the celestis to mess with bigger stuff. Both ships are good for gangs anyway , I don't like soloing for long.

Depends on a couple of things, one of the primary factors is what region you're going to be pirating in (hunting NPC'ers in catch with amarr ships, boooo).
Zealot for taking out large(ish) targets with short range (scorch + 24km scram), or long range and dont have an excess of nos (conflag). MWD is nice to dictate range on most ships bigger than frigs.
Stabber for general griefing behind enemy lines. It's hard to lose a stabber.....
Harbinger/Proph for killing people in non-sansha lowsec/0.0
Hurricane for killing people just about anywhere.
Absolution for when i feel like losing money (CS = blob magnet )
Fleet issue stabber (faction fit FTW) for when you want any combat to be a rush because you're paranoid as hell that everything's bait to take your beautiful shiny ship away from you.
Oh, and as for the ishkur vs rax issue...Ishkur would win. ------ Currently stationed in Iraq, 190 days left to go!

Thorax for cheap T1 fun, with an 800mm plate you can survive sentry fire long enough to kill a frig or hauler... for general undocking chaos and downright gatecamping pwnage I like the Drake - 2 of these on a gate or station will give any pilot a heart attack

Edited by: Dr Jamius on 24/04/2007 17:36:48 Until I've access to T2 ships, the Drake is my favourite solo ride. Spend an extra 100mil on T2 fittings/rigs and have a ball tanking 1v1 any ship you encounter. They nos you.. doesn't matter, your cap runs out, you still tank, and with no cap left for them to suck they start losing their cap repairing. A rack of heavy missile launchers will eventually break the tank of most ships you encounter. I had a classic fight the other night. Probing out two Myrmidons in a safe, I decided to go Rambo and take them on. The first managed to warp out in structure, the second was down to 40% armour or so. The first Myrmidon returned... still my shield tank was holding at around 70%, and the second ship was going down. Unfortunately they had a mate warp in with a Typhoon and I eventually went pop, but that was one hell of a twenty minute fight, with no smack talk on the end, just compliments on my badassness and a O/ in return. ;) Building another yesterday, changed the fittings a little for slightly less tank and more gank, and managed a nice solo Scorpion kill, also raping a Brutix, until she called in her little gank squad to get her out of trouble. Still she paid for that misdemeanor a little later when the tables were turned and down went her Rokh, with her little friends in a Myrmidon and Hyperion (Myrmidon, Rokh and Hyperion vs one Eos and two Ravens- blaster ships ftw but they lost :) ) running like hell. Oh how she whined... :D

Tbh you pretty much cant go wrong with a curse.
And you dont even need to speed tank it, just a couple of speed mods mixed with an armour tank and you go alot faster than anythign other than a frig, and those die in seconds due to having no cap after 1 volly of nos :)
Damps - speed - faction scrambler - light tank for drones (kill there drones first) - and a couple of heavy missile launchers for extra dps
Oh yeah, talisman set is also very much 4tw i find :)

Rocket Kestrel due to cheapness and the satisfaction of killing large ships in it.
Also Blackbird if I know what type of ship I am facing.

Macheriel is proving itself as a solo versatile ship, can escape trouble mighty quick too.
For 'cheaper' pvp id recommend yes, the vagabond sabre or the eos! Curse goes down well too.

Thorax is high on my list of fav pvp ships. Most AF would struggle against a cruiser but the Ishkur is unique. I'd be willing to bet it would give a rax a run for it's money.
Still, no promises.
Good luck killing (with blasters) a boat that has 85% natural kinetic and 60% natural thermal resistance on its shields. Then go to the armor, where it's even worse, and they're most likely tanked harder than natural anyway.
Aren't those the resists for the Deimos? Could swear the poster was talking about a Thorax.
Those are the resists for the Ishkur. That's what he was talking about.

Edited by: Arx Impera on 26/04/2007 22:54:59 For things I fly, I LOVE the duramaller...
Incredible armor carried by HAC resistances, enough nos to bleed people out and better damage then what the DPS in quickfits make it look like, simply for the fact that if tracking is so high its excellent hits after excellent hits...
It can have a number of different builds, but what really makes me like it its the tank; I've fought outnumbered against people older then me and still won. I've killed all of the typical pwncruisers, Vexor, Thorax, Rupture (thou this one is pure trouble passive tanked and no weapon cap make it a ***** to kill), Caracal, Arbitrator, in 1v1, 1v2, 1v3... Even the odd battlecruiser or 2.
And for things I wish to fly very soon, Nanocurse seems perfect...Its THE solopwnmobile. Enough nos to break everyone, enough EW to retain its superiority, as fast as the typical vagabond and can still have a shield tank worth mentioning, all self sustainable.
...who of course promptly went bat****, flipped out and killed some people. |
