It's ok, ts and vent is better quality than this. To be honest if the format is just devs talking to us a video would be best with demos of what's coming to eve, and with questions we really need a transcript - there's one thing listening to it live but I don't really want to hear recordings of 'uhms' and 'errs'.
Still, always good hear about the future and hope you make improvements for next chat

Read the thread, there are player-made summaries with timestamps available. And maybe you could write the transcript if you really deem it that important? I'm sure that Hellmar and Hammerhead have better things to do than type out an hour's voice recording.

That sucks.
Sounds worse than it is. They are just moving the information from the mail system to the character sheet. As far as I can tell, all the information is still there: you just get at it from a different place.

Any thoughts on how this will work with corp refine taxes in stations? POS's already make this complicated, but the lower refine rate helps balance it out. However, a ship that gets the same refine rate as a POS, but is more vulnerable, seems like it's not going to be very useful at all.... a higher refine rate, and suddenly Outpost owners risk losing all their mineral income.
Any thoughts?
Most space-holding alliances already ban POS refineries in some or all cases, the refining ship will simply be as equally banned(in other words, few people will use them).
Or they can go back to actually charging rent like they used to instead of taking it in indirectly through refining tax. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

To be honest I think Eve has succeed quite nicely without documentation to this day. The fact is that eve has a mindboggling about of ships, items, playstyles, and methods that it would probably take the entire dev team the better part of 3 months to log and write a manual meerly on the technical use of every ship/item/utility in game, let alone the tips and tactics most veteran players have picked up, let alone keep it up to date.
The player base is over 170K compared to the 200 or so devs that are working on the game, each one of the players probably logging more time weekly on average than most of the devs who are trying to fix the game. A wiki makes perfect sence as it allows for new additions and revisions on an instant basis and leaves the devs to fix and improve the game, which is what they should be doing.
Edit: The forum ate my rant P.S. Sounds like the devs found a new ISK sink :P ----

Next time, have atleast a semi-professional speaker/talker do a hi fi transcript of the live dev blog for the poor chaps downloading it or they will develop severe brain stuttering disorder. Or why not make the live dev blog like a radio broadcast with a pro host that can put some structure to it.
The audio quality of the recording is acceptable during a LIVE session but hardly as a downloadable version. If it s not possible to make a hi fi transcript afterwards, then at least use a side kick recording device that will record the session in hi fi for the downloadable version.
As it is, it s totally uncomfortable to listen to and through.

Edited by: Wrayeth on 24/04/2007 07:22:40 Just finished listening to the download. Interesting stuff.
That said, I have a couple questions that I hope might be answered in the next blog, generally involving balancing issues.
First and foremost, Gallente and PvP balance. I'm sure you've seen the 5281 posts regarding the state of Gallente in PvP atm, and I'd like to get your take on it (more specifically, your take on the drone boats since those are the ones most widely viewed as broken).
Secondly, nighthawk fitting: in short, it sucks. It has some CPU issues, but those are livable. What is not something easily dealt with is the grid. Simply put, the grid is far too tight. Moreover, the nighthawk fittings were set before HAM launchers entered the game and, as such, did not take into account their higher fitting cost or the need for extraneous mods (MWD) to make use of them. Would there be any chance this could be looked at?
And, on a related note, I have a question about HAMs themselves. From my experiences with them, it would seem to me that they were designed with the cerberus and only the cerberus in mind. On any other ship (except, possibly, the caracal) the range and flight time are so abyssmal that there's almost no reason to use them. Any ship without a velocity or flight time bonus will find them extremely difficult to use (you can get more range with rockets on some tech 1 frigates than with HAMs on a battlecruiser). Do you feel this is an issue?
Furthermore, with only a four-second flight time, you run into significant range issues due to the fact that missiles generally overshoot their target and, thus, lose about one second off their flight time. This results in the theoretical maximum range being significantly less. For instance, when shooting at targets 13km away--which should be within the max range--with my nighthawk and tech 1 HAMs, I rarely get a hit, even vs. stationary targets. That extra second of lost flight time means a loss of a full 25% of my range. Do you, also, find this to be an issue, and is there a resolution forthcoming?
EDIT: Forgot to add: Missile Kinetic Bonus--any chance it could get changed to a flat-out missile damage bonus for missiles of the appropriate size to give back the versatility that Caldari ships are supposed to have as far as damage-switching goes?
Thanks,
-Wrayeth n00b Extraordinaire

While it is great to see again a sort of Dev Chat, the use of Eve-Voice was not the best idea. I downloaded the file and was even able to understand most of it, but it was no fun. I really hope, that CCP moves them back to IRC, where it is much easier to join and understand the Dev-Chat and where it is possible to post the log as soon as the dev-chat is finished (add one hour for editing).
About the content: *) Changes to POS: Could you please write a Dev-Blog about the currently planned design for the changes to POS-defence as soon as possible? Just moving the turrets outside of the POS wonŠt really help to discourage blobbing. Are there any other interesting changes? Perhaps changes to sovereignity? What about using acceleration gates and deadspace to protect parts of a POS? *) Killmails: Great idea, I hope for a good implementation. Hint: DonŠt forget to add a method for exports from the beginning! *) Bug reporting improvements: Great

It's really great to hear some of the stuff in this recording. Hellmar talks about some things that I know I always want to hear about in the dev blogs but never get. Things like the status of the user interface and details about the back end handling of node communication.
I don't mind it being recorded because I can relax and listen to it, but it's not necessarily the way it's presented that makes it good. It's the questions that are being answered so directly and with more specifics.

Give 'em a break guys. It was a first stab at a new forum and probably mostly an excuse to load test VIVOX.
As for why Ham' said "umm" 3,172 times at the beginning: For those of you who weren't present, the original idea was to have the questions asked in the companion text channel. However instead all we had was 1,100 people spamming junk, even after the threat of GM reprimands.
The utter lack of respect the community showed was appalling.
As for why to do it in-game? Ever heard the expression 'eat your own dogfood'? Having to do it in IRC is surrendering that the communication facilities in EVE aren't up to the task, and doing it in-game provides an opportunity for the devs to make progress in fixing that.

That was a pretty good devchat imho, at first it was hard to hear/understand, but after a while the brain tunes in and all is well.
Sound qaulity was'nt that amazing imho, i thought the qaulity would be better. Still, vivox isn't that bad, it's marginally better than a telephone...unless the compression on the MP3 has reduced the quality.
Tons of info in there, I was kinda miffed about the lack of intrest in manu/science/mining aspect of the game. The general vibe was what I had feared, it is more of an after thought rather than anything substantial. Maybe getting a non PVP person involved in the creation/balance process would be a plus.
Looks like anything new or intresting is poised for after the gfx engine, which is understandable. Can't wait for the expansions after the 'big one'

On the topic of voice quality... Something I've been looking for but haven't seen mentioned: Anyone know the codec/settings VIVOX uses? It's SIP so there are a couple favourites but they could have gone with something weird since SIP is codec independent.

My concern with the whole issue with moving guns outside of the POS shields is that POS spammers will simply start using the "hardener POS" strategy, basically making it impossible to destroy a POS without a large dreadnought fleet. Are there plans to move the shield hardeners and other defensive components, such as warp scrambling batteries, outside of the POS shields as well? Will there be any adjustments to POS shield hardeners so that you can't get like 90% resistances? On a POS those kind of resistances are pretty ridiculous.
If you are only intending to allow smaller, non-capital ship fleets to be able to destroy guns but not necessarily be capable of destroying the POS, I don't much see the point. What good is removing the guns if you still don't have the firepower to destroy the POS? ----------------------------------------------------
