The Establishment has had a few Dreads in its fleet for a month or two now, and we've never had reason to use them. The other day, I found a Thanatos just outside of its POS shield, by 3-5km. Informing Rawthorm, we jumped Hera in and warped on top of it to kill it. As we did this, a Dreadnought Cyno'd in and got bounced off its shield. It was also promptly destroyed. After this, on a bit of a high, we thought we'd start having a go at the POS's in the system just so we could test out our Dreads.
Over the past couple of days we destroyed a POS and knocked a couple more into reinforced. One of these POS's - unbeknownst to us - seemed to be an ally of CVA. So today when we came to knock it down completely, we discovered a 25-30man CVA fleet a couple of jumps from us. I was immediately concerned about this, worried that if we went ahead with the POS attack, they'd jump a bunch of Capitals on top of us. Rawthorm however was adamant we try it anyway, given if we waited, they'd only come back later, probably in greater numbers. So we decided to go ahead.
Just before we jumped our Capitals in, the CVA fleet seemed to turn around and head back towards its own territory. Perhaps they were just passing by after all we thought. So, we put up the Cyno, they immediately turned around and made a beeline for us. We saw them coming, but decided to continue the assault. Their fleet eventually jumped in and got themselves into position, all the while the POS we were shooting was entering heavy armour damage.
And then they warped in. For reference, The Establishment fleet consisted of Hera (Nyx), 2 Moros, 1 Revelation, 1 Archon and 1 Chimera. We didn't have much in the way of a support fleet except our recons, but this is nothing new. Hera and the Carriers proceeded to engage the CVA fleet with their Fighters. We were doing ok until...
A Cyno went up next to us.
8 CVA Carriers jumped in next to our own Capital Fleet. This was not going to go well.
CVA chose xHoodx's Moros as their primary target. He held out for a few minutes, but the sheer number of Fighters and Nos on him broke him fairly quickly. Our own Fighters were trying to pick off their support, but CVA were quite prepared for this it seems and they were remote repping their support ships with their Carrier fleet. Because of this, we were unable to inflict any serious damage to their support ships.
As xHoodx's Moros exploded, my Moros was next. I was drained of cap pretty quickly and my armour was crumbling quickly under the onslaught. We were doing everything we could to fight back, but there was relatively little we could do despite our best efforts. At some point during the battle, a Cyno was put up in Assah, and Aram Gishno's Chimera jumped to safety.
As my own Moros exploded, CVA turned their attention to our final Dread, Seek's Revelation. It died just as quickly as our other 2 Dreadnoughts and when that was down, our Archon was also destroyed, unable to jump out to safety. Hera withdrew from the field after our last Capital was dead, unable to do anything else.
What has The Establishment learnt from this you might ask? Well first off, we got our arses kicked quite thoroughly, some might say deservedly so given that this sort of thing very rarely happens to us. We take losses here and there, but never on this scale before. But happened it has and its a learning experience. Second, never listen to an FC sitting in his EW immune SuperCapital saying we can take them even if they jump a bunch of Capitals on us. I can only say I told you so Raw
Full credit for CVA for being well prepared against us, and it was a good fight at the end of the day. I now have 600mil to spend on faction gear for my Vindicator because of you
Regards
Angel
