For the sake of completeness you might want to say "how" it is as bad... There are great many different opinions about the "nerf local" thread. Alot more than there are of "do not reply off topic".
I meant thats its an absolutely absurd idea that obviously hasnt been thought through to the full. Here's an example:
Alliance A wants to shoot Alliance B.
Alliance A fields 50 BSs. Alliance B fields 25 BSs.
End result of nerfing focus fire is that Alliance B's force is just as effective as Alliance A's. Of course, in a utopian world, this is not true, as Alliance A could destroy B's ships at twice the rate. However, under current game mechanics, this would be impossible. It would mean calling 2 primary targets and issuing those commands to each of the seperate wings, or, of course, you could have the pilots pair up and pick a target each, as was with your historical precedent. There's problems with both of these.
The first is that with the current conditions in a fleet fight, it would be absolutely impossible to issue a seperate primary to 2 wings from the same FC. Even if the gang system was overhauled to allow this easily in game, it'd still be laggy and too complex. It'd force every fleet to be a perfectly disciplined military unit. Remember this is still a game.
The problem with your "historical precedent" was that any one of those guns had the power to immobilise a ship with a single round. This led to people trying to take as many ships out per salvo as possible. This even persists in eve now, people do attempt to try and take out as many ships per salvo as possible. It just so happens that we can only eliminate one per salvo from 100 sniper BSs.
Either way, the solution to removing sniper blob wars is not nerfing focus fire or primary target calling, but rather putting a sniper force at a disadvantage, and giving the smaller mobile force an attainable obejctive other than that of cannon fodder. Then we'll see fleets of HACs and Recons engaging around POSes in frankly epic battles. This is hopefully what CCP are aiming for with Rev 2.0 and their changes to sovereignty mechanics.
