Create a new, tier 2 destroyer (or just modify the current ones, but I like shiny, new things) that can use the directional scanner to find cloaked ships. OMG UR STEWPI Shut up, and keep reading. It won't be a ranged scan out and [warp to], like probes would give you. Pretty much direction only. Why would that be useful? Well, adjust your scanner range and you can find out if someone is watching your grid. Put a destroyer in your BS cluster and see if they're setting up a warpin on your snipers. Is someone in your gang's safe spot? Use it for local defense to see if you can find out if recons are camping a gate, mobile between belts or just safe spotted and afk.
And yet another stupid idea in relation to destroyers. Create a new high slot launcher type, a 'pinger' device if you will. Launch a cloak disrupter sphere or some such and anything cloaked within X range will be decloaked for Y seconds. X and Y could probably be given a new skillbook that would modify both the quality of the sphere you could use (increasing X) or the recloaking ability of the recon (Y.) X shouldn't get too high though, I'd probably say 75km max, because if you went any higher you'd just have to drop three to take care of a whole grid. Probably add some balance in there by reducing target locking time for anyone within range of the sphere and also keeping it's refire time on par with the interdiction sphere launcher. It should be noted though, that it would NOT interfere with a jump gates' natural cloaking ability for pilots jumping in and out.
Thoughts?

Oh FFS
A de-cloakign sphere is the same idiotic, moronic idea that has been on these forums for years, anything ANYTHING like this will destroy coverts and recons.
There is a reason these threads died, start digging.

Decloaking pulse in general, I like the idea, but in practice it's going to be hard to implement. Intel, coverts, recons are good.
Someone sitting AFK all day, isn't. *shrug* maybe a system wide or grid wide decloak would work, but only if it was very limited use.
I do like the idea of a destroyer being able to detect presence of covops, e.g. on scan. Not see, nor lock, or warp to, but ...
Maybe some kind of specialist probe, a bit like the multifrequency exploration probe '5 active cloaks within 1AU' type thing, would be good I think.

Covert ships aren't exactly the hardest hitting or tanking ships by far. Their only strength is their cloak really, take that away and they become useless.
Please next time think something through before you propose something. And search the forum if someone hasn't already posted your idea.

I find your last line very ironic, but anyways. The new ship type isn't suppose to be the end all to all recons and covops, it's just meant to find the PRESENCE of a cloaked ship in scan range. For the spheres, I actually don't think they should be any larger than a regular warp disruption sphere. Even at that size you'd have to have a REALLY stupid recon pilot to stay in range of a 'ping' capable ship.

So what's to stop them from being pinged right after jumping into a warp disruption sphere and then dieing instantly? (Assuming they didn't coast back to the gate by hitting MWD&cloak) - BOOST OUTLAWS (-10.0 and proud of it) |

Nothing, if a gang already has a bubble up, the recon is probably screwed to begin with. A ping sphere would be the last nail in the coffin.

Make it so that it doesn't decloak them, but it gives the user a hint as to direction and range and heading.

The idea of using the directional scanner to detect the presence of a cloaked ship is actually a very good idea. So long as you cannot warp to it or use any means other than proximity to de-cloak it.

Ok lets refine the idea to please the honest covert ops pod pilot.
Sphere had a 25km radius - This gives a 50km diameter which is more than enough to catch those who sit close to warp points.
Upon launch of the Sphere the bubble activates and is a unique colour so as to warn cloaked vessels of the danger.
Upon launch of the Sphere there is a 3 minute delay before the bubble is functional, during this 2 minute period the Covert Ops pod Pilot can safely exit the bubble and escape.
Interdiction spheres and Decloak Spheres are not compatible, once one or the other has been launched you must wait till their bubble has dissipated.
The total time from launch of the sphere is 5 minutes, this allows for only 2 minutes of functional decloaking.
The ability to fit the module is from a tier2 interdictor that can only launch Decloak sphere.
