TBH I have never had a problem myself with my Drones MWDing. When I command them to return and orbit or return to drone bay they always do without fault. Even with heavy armor damage.
Usually, heavy hull damage is when my drones act up. Which is completely understandable.
What I think is that so many have skilled their drone skills but haven't mastered how to use them.
P.S. I personally absoluty glad to use drones in Missions or other DeadSpace. Being that the drones can MWD in DeadSpace and I can't.
And before you comment. I clear whole 0.0 exploration sites using soley 4x Hammerhead II. Some take about an hour to an hour and half. But most are done pretty damn quick providing.
Also, sometimes I may lose one. But so far I've only lost one in a site before I clear it.
My drone durability is at 4 prettymuch like anybody else who uses drones but that is inconsequential to fighters to my knowledge, second the fighters not MWDing back to you is a well known issue with all fighters not one that affects drones but one that greatly annoys carrier pilots.
I doubt i would be in a drone boat if i did not know that sentries can shoot drones yes i take a look at the drone list (Notice i mentioned my inability to repair 2 drones at a time in my post) If you want specifics sentries will not kill a fighter on a single 30 second cycle (But if both get on the same one they will) so while i was repping one of them both sentries hit up another i had not targeted and made it go boom, something that would never have happened if the drone / fighter AI was fixed and they had MWDed back to my carrier.
You have never had the bug where drones when recalled will hover just out of the 1500 mark and not come closer? Never send out drones very far and after about 20 seconds of heading towards the target they will randomly lose interest and go for other targets and have to order them back on the first target? You are one hell of a lucky person.
About the losing drones probems that is more prevalent in missions where some NPC aggro drones specificaly, being unable to recall your nifty hammerhead II when it it being targeted by a couple of interceptors reall is somewhat of a problem, still don't lose them often but even an occasional loss due to a bug needs to be adressed.
The overall trend of comparing weapons emplacement on ships really is moot, they are not the same thing but for the sake of comparison say you fire 4 torpedoes at a target 60km away and at the 50km mark 2 of them sudenly decide to go and hit something else at random, kinda annoying. Of if you where busy getting your pew pew on and suddenly two of your guns started performing some weird mating ritual and you had to tell one to fire at something else then fire back at the first target again so they stoped trying to do the matress dance instead of shooting thing.
Weapon mounts and drones are 2 different things each with their perks and problems but buggy AI should not figure into the balance equation.

P.S. I am still waiting for CCP to implement a faction or even navy dominix. (This part is a gratuitous whine, ignore it)
