As I saw in the FanFest 2007 Capsuleer's Guide, it struck me as oddly coincidental that the Icelandic population's currency can also be referred to as "ISK", in Eve it is referred to as "InterStellar Kredits."
Ok...if 1.0 ISK = 1.0 Interstellar Kredit, then battleships (Apoc, for instance) would cost around 1.5 million american dollars...which is, in my opinion, fairly cheap for such a massive item.
I would think more to 1.o ISK = 1.0 USD. That would make a bit more sense.
What do you think?

I never considered it a coinkydink. 
CCP is based in Iceland, so my guess is whoever thought up the name of ingame ISK simply took that name from the real-world currency and came up with InterStellar Kredits.

Carriers would cost about right, although the equipment would be low, esp the fighters, the full complement of planes on a modern carrier is massivly more expensive than the boat itself.
modern destroyers for a measly 20 mil?
Yea right, that won't cover the cost of the communications equipment.

I think that eve =/= rl, and that even at 1 isk = 1 usd that still means that an apocalypse (remember this is probably as big as a couple skyscrapers) for 100 million usd is still a bargain (that's what, the cost of a not-so-high-end lamborghini this days?. So *shrug*
I'm the alt of the main that the forums picked, and i can't be arsed to go through the "settings" page to change it back, k? |

It's a bit of a mental switch to get 1,000,000 isk = a useful amount of money :)

Ner, a 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo only costs around 175'000 USD. Some of the most expensive cars in the world only go for around the one million dollar mark.

Someone, based on the price of base goods in-game (such as grain, dairy, livestock, etc), calculated that the average annual salary in EVE is around 350 isk.
However, we have to take into consideration potentially radically different prices in space (compared to planet-bound), so it could easily be less.
Let's just say that those 5,000 isk you start with could buy you a *whole lot* of spacehookers and spacedrugs.

The USD has not devalued that much thanks :p Lambo = $150,000 not $100,000,000.

Couple random points
1. Eve != reality. Indeed, we play Eve because reality sucks and we want to get away from it, for some reason or other.
2. Prices could be about right, I mean current prices in the world are based on the idea that theres an ultimately limited supply due to labor and resource shortages, but more advanced robotics and the vast expanse of space can (and I think will in about 75 years) change that.
3. 350/year for a non pilot could be right. If you read the backstory it suggests that even poor capsule pilots (thats us players) are the uber uber elite of the empires and have all kinds of power over 'commoners'.

he was probably thinking of the USD of the future. clearly by the year 2020 things will be so screwed up economy wise that lambos will be that much!
